Cancel cms?

Has anyone ever cancelled child maintenance or doesn't claim it? The payments are ridiculously low so it's not even worth me claiming I am tempted to cancel, has anyone done the same?

I don't see why you would? It's for your children. It's not really for you to say it's not worth it. Your kids will need it at some point and they deserve it. Both morally and legally. All you do is have it put in your account. You don't need to do anything? So why not just let it carry on?

HoneyBlossoms · 31/08/2025 20:10

Need £1.75 a week? I can assure you they don't.

OP posts:
HoneyBlossoms · 31/08/2025 20:13

Their lives would be no different if I didn't receive it as it makes no impact.

I often thought about cancelling my CMS claim -I got £10 a week for over a decade. I didn't cancel because I knew he'd tell everyone that he didn't support his daughter because I'd said I didn't want his money.
DD is 19 now and I'm glad I didn't cancel the £10 - I used to give it to her as pocket money!

It wouldn't be enough for my kids Robux 😂 I give them more than that in robux, they say it anyway don't they? He hasn't seen them in 2 years I'm sure he tells everyone I've stopped him? I don't have contact with his friends or family though so doesn't really affect me in any way

This is a bizarre thread, op I’m so pleased that you are not affected by the cost of living crisis.

you might want to check out some of those threads there are people out there (me included) who do all kinds of offers/ hustles to make an extra £20.

in your shoes I’d auto send it into an account to be split between kids when older, as others have said it adds up. I know I would have appreciated anything at 18.

if you & your children really don’t need the money now or in future why not send to a charity?

PuzzlingRecluse · 31/08/2025 20:37

I’m not saying you should be grateful btw it’s utterly shit, but I’d still accept it for my kids

SomeOfTheTrouble · 31/08/2025 20:37

If you’d mentioned at the start that you’re loaded with no money worries at all you may have got different answers.

I think another reason to keep the CMS claim going is that he may have closed the door on his role as a father but you haven't. When your kids are older and they want to know why he was so useless, they'll know that you tried to hold him to account as their father.
I get why you want to cancel the CMS though. It's a broken system. I say broken but I don't think it ever worked 😔

Why would I need to be loaded for £7 to not make a difference? It wouldn't make a difference to anyone? Do you think that is the difference between my kids eating or not?

I'm sorry that £7 would make a massive difference to you a week that must be hard, it wouldn't to me though I don't even notice it being paid in.

OP posts:
HoneyBlossoms · 31/08/2025 22:31

@corlan I do get what you are saying I do really think men should be held accountable and shouldn't be able to get away with paying nothing but at the same time £7 a week isn't holding anyone accountable and it's an insult

HoneyBlossoms · 31/08/2025 22:31

My son's uniform for starting secondary just cost me £300 £7 wouldn't even pay for his lunch a week.

No, it was just all your comments about how much you spend on Robux etc. We are comfortably off but things like Robux are a rare treat, not a weekly thing. Sorry, just assumed from your comments that you’re wealthy.

HoneyBlossoms · 31/08/2025 22:35

You really don't have to be loaded for £7 to not make a difference for FOUR kids I think this thread more baffling tbh that people are making out that is a suitable contribution and would make a difference to them? Their ice cream order cost more today at the park!

As I said, it was your comments about buying weekly Robux for 4 kids etc that made me think you were wealthy.

Sux2buthen · 31/08/2025 15:25

Not that he pays for, no

Why so little

i get £7 so £28 for one

EverybodyLTB · 01/09/2025 14:24

Jeez, which poster is saying that £7 is enough!? Nobody has said that, and the general consensus is your ex is a piece of shit dad. All anyone’s saying is don’t throw money away to prove a point. It doesn’t hurt you to receive it, doesn’t make him look good that he pays it, doesn’t do anything for anyone really but why just chuck it away? Redirect it to the Red Cross or sponsor a tiger or something. There are children all over the UK that could do with £7 a week worth of donations to the Food Bank, or buy some cakes for your local community centre’s OAP coffee morning every week or whatever.

You keep getting enraged about comments that aren’t being made. Nobody’s saying he’s a great dad and that £7 is a fortune, I haven’t seen that once!

Typicalwave · 01/09/2025 14:28

Honestly OP you’re being ridiculous.

HoneyBlossoms · 01/09/2025 19:54

£7 a week is ridiculous. If you would be happy to receive that for your kids then good, but their McDonald’s meal cost more than that each.

OP posts:
EverybodyLTB · 01/09/2025 20:05

Nobody’s saying it’s ok!! What are you not understanding from these responses, you’re being wilfully obtuse. We’re saying it’s not ok, but don’t chuck it in the bin. Buy someone else’s kid a McDonald’s then, whatever, but don’t chuck £7 away every week for no reason.

SomeOfTheTrouble · 01/09/2025 20:13

Literally nobody has said they’d be happy to receive £7 for their kids. Just that if they did, they’d do something with it. Put it in a savings account, give it to charity…

SomeOfTheTrouble · 01/09/2025 20:15

But as this thread has been going on for 3 days now and all you’ve done is give reasons that you don’t want the money and argue with anyone who offers suggestions as to what to do with it, I’m sure you’ve cancelled it by now anyway.

PractisingMyTelekenipsis · 01/09/2025 20:24

I think £7 per week is a disgusting amount of money. But as someone who hasn't had a penny for over 10 years, and who has just gotten further and further into debt because one wage just isn't enough, even with UC the extra £28 per month really would make a difference!
And even if i didn't and I just used to get a takeaway every once in while, it's better in my pocket than his!

TheFormidableMrsC · 01/09/2025 20:31

No don’t cancel it. Buy a premium bond each month. Imagine if that brought you and the children a great prize? I would do that. Also, it keeps the claim open so if his circumstances change, then payments should increase. Regardless of how little it is, he should be made to pay. I hate these bastards.
