Don’t have anyone to sign passport

I really want to take my children abroad but don’t have anyone to do their passports. Has anyone been in this situation and what did you do? (Don’t need any suggestions of who can sign it I’m aware and have looked through the list but don’t have anyone that can do it) is there anything else that can be done if you’ve been in this situation?

I didn’t say they don’t have any friends? I’m not friends with the parents though and they don’t know me.

You don't even say hi on the school run? Do your DC never go on playdates or to a party?

So what? They know your kids. That’s all that matters! Text anyone from your kids’ classes and ask. Ask in the group chat or class Facebook page. You haven’t even asked? So you’ve spent years wanting to go on holiday, claim you’ve done everything you can and don’t need suggestions… but you haven’t even asked any parent from school? Grow a backbone.

I don’t have their numbers? Not all schools have class WhatsApp’s

I’m a lone parent and rather than messaging round friends, I just ask another parent at the school gate simply because it was quicker and easier and they gave me their email address and did it for me that evening.

Yes this too. I don’t get why OP can’t ask a neighbour. School parent. Colleague or manager if they work?

My old secondary school is closed down.

Ah. I'm sorry. I'm just racking my brains trying to think of a solution. Your children don't attend Brownies, Scouts...any kind of extra-curricular activity at all?

Ask at the gate?

I want to know what others in this situation did. Do you have trouble reading?

Found someone or didn’t get passports. What other options are there?

Are you this snippy in real life?

You'll have to speak to them at the school gates then. As I said before, it's got to be easier than going to the passport office.

I know it's awkward...but maybe approach one of them at the school gate?

Your kids never went to a birthday party (which you would RSVP to so would have their number). Your kids never went on a play date when they were too young to organise it so you did (so you would have their numbers). Your kids don’t see their friends?

Fine. Then go to one of your kids right now and ask them to text their best mate and see if their mum or dad is available to sign their passport and could they get their email address for the online form. It’ll take 2 minutes for your kids to text their friend.

Thank you! People won’t understand that there are some situations where people genuinely don’t have anyone to do it. I won’t be going into details why as that’s personal and not giving out my life story but I was simply asking if there was anything in place for this situation.

Even someone who has maybe fled a previous life for whatever reason would surely be in contact with a social worker, a housing officer, a charity worker or someone similar?

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 16:29

I will call them on Monday and see what they say. I doubt I’m the only person in this situation.

I think you may be fairly unusual in not having known a single British citizen for two years.

I’d happily go to the passport office so I will see if that’s an option.

You must have a very very lonely life. And I’m concerned that your kids also do, if you don’t know a single one of their school mates’ parents.

Why are you pathologically opposed to just talking to people rather than making a special trip and spending hours queueing up?

Thismomlikesknitting · 23/03/2025 16:56

A parent in my daughters class signed our photos for us.

Course it is! And all your neighbours are out, and the kids don’t have a dentist, and they don’t go to football / rugby / ballet / Brownies / swimming. You work with no one, the teachers all say no and give no reason, the landlord has gone to Mars, you have no landlord.

Your family don’t know any other humans…

Absolutely not! Lots of people leave relationships and move away without help from the social or a charity.
Also, you need to know the person for at least two years.

That’s not going to work without a countersigned application form otherwise every fraudster and terrorist would do the same!

They waited two years until they knew someone for two years to sign it.

What?! Why do you think going there will help? You need someone to sign it for you….

Myengagementring · 23/03/2025 16:58

Do you know anyone who works in a bank, I do and can sign passports

Isthismykarma · 23/03/2025 16:58

I’ve just googled and apparently you can put a reasoning on Section 8 of the form. It would be easier to get a countersignature, so I would exhaust that first, but as a last resort maybe ring Monday and ask about it. Good luck with it :)

There’s some really angry people on here. Was literally only asking if there was help for people in this situation. I’ve googled it and seems like lots of people have been in this situation.

So a teacher who remembers you would complete the form saying they’ve known you for 20 years then not the minimum 2?

😂😂😂😂 as we are apparently doing that now!
