Don’t have anyone to sign passport

I really want to take my children abroad but don’t have anyone to do their passports. Has anyone been in this situation and what did you do? (Don’t need any suggestions of who can sign it I’m aware and have looked through the list but don’t have anyone that can do it) is there anything else that can be done if you’ve been in this situation?

Did you not see my post about asking in your local post office ? Do you use it often enough for someone to say they know your child?

Not one I use regularly no I go to different ones and not a place I visit often.

What about their dad? Can he think of someone?

At the next parents evening, or when you have a one on one with a teacher or even better the Head, get them on side and say ‘I’m wondering if you could do me a favour? I’ve been putting off getting passports for years as I don’t have anyone that could sign them. Would you mind doing it? I’d be so grateful. I won’t tell other parents as I know you won’t want everyone asking. Happy to donate £30 to the PTA / Friends of the School.

I’m sure they would. They can’t just say they won’t do it? Why not?

Edited

Our school won’t do it.

Do you DC have friends op....? Could you ask one of their parents?

dementedpixie · 23/03/2025 16:07

It doesn't even need to be someone that lives close by as it's done online. Someone from your past that's known you for over 2 years?

You must interact with someone that's got a passport!

They don’t see their father.

I think you're assuming it's a very narrow field of people who can do it whereas in fact a lot of people can sign as long as they have a UK passport and have known your children for two years.

One of your neighbours or friends can probably do it. Are any of them in health care, or teaching, or own/run a business?

The last person who signed my dcs passport was a neighbour who lectured in the nearby university. My last passport photo was signed by a friend who's a Health Visitor.

Maviaz · 23/03/2025 16:09

Do you work OP? Or have you worked in the past?
often when people don’t know someone personally they can use them they’ll use their manager/business owner or a previous manager. It’s all done online now so the person doesn’t need to live anywhere near you

AndSoFinally · 23/03/2025 16:09

Whoever signed yours can do your children's. They are signing to say they've known you two years, not the kids. If you've got a passport yourself, then just use the same person

You are overthinking this with the idea that you have no one at all. It's literally someone of good standing (can be pretty much anyone) who has known you 2 years

Comedycook · 23/03/2025 16:09

Do your parents/siblings have any friends who know you who could do it?

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 16:10

Again I don’t need suggestions but thanks I will call on Monday.

If you REALLY want to get passports for your kids
you'll have found a way by the end of the day.

Anybody whose day job is civil servant, lawyer, accountant, vicar, teacher
LOADS of people can do them
if you ask

They don’t see their father.

They don't have to see their father. You can just arrange to get the passports countersigned.

Our school won’t do it.

Why though? Speak to them and state your case. I’m sure they’re reasonable people. Say you have no one else because of X, Y and Z. There must be some reason why you can’t ask all of the usual people. My husband is a teacher. He gets asked by parents, neighbours, friends, it’s just one of things teachers do. My friend was a police officer, she was doing it all the time.

I’m not in contact with him? Why would I contact him we haven’t had contact in years?

When I was still teaching, I'd sign passports for former pupils and their children. Would that be an option for you - a teacher who knows you?

ETA Sorry. Have just seen your update.

Maviaz · 23/03/2025 16:12

@AnnaQuayInTheUk with children’s passports the signatory can have known the PARENT for 2 years ( otherwise babies would never get a passport)

Again I don’t need suggestions but thanks I will call on Monday.

You do know it doesn’t have to be someone with an occupation on the list? Are you really saying you know absolutely no one has a passport, regardless of their occupation?

DenholmElliot11 · 23/03/2025 16:13

You're annoying.

Comedycook · 23/03/2025 16:13

Op...does your family not have long term family friends who have known you for the required time?

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 16:10

Again I don’t need suggestions but thanks I will call on Monday.

The problem is that so many people stick to the list of suggested professions instead on thinking about who they know who could actually sign (which would be easier than going to the passport office). This topic crops up all the time on here. And I know you're not asking for suggestions because you're absolutely convinced that there isn't a single person who can vouch for you. But...

Who signed your application? They knew you then so they know you now.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 23/03/2025 16:13

@Maviaz sorry, yes that's true.

OP you must have someone in your network who has known you for two years. What about a work colleague?

Iknowaboutpopular · 23/03/2025 16:16

Assuming there are shops where you live, do you use one of them regularly? Perhaps a library? A pub? A church? Do your children go to any activities or clubs run by adults who could help you?
Do you interact with other people at all?

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 16:16

There is no one that can do it I said im not asking for suggestions as I know there is no one who can do it I’m aware of the list and aware who can sign, I don’t have anyone to sign. I was only asking if anyone had been in this situation and what they did, but it seems the only people responding are those who haven’t been in this situation then getting annoyed at me? 😕 I’m not asking your advice I’m asking for advice from people that have been in this situation and if there is any alternative set up for people who have no one to sign.
