Don’t have anyone to sign passport

I really want to take my children abroad but don’t have anyone to do their passports. Has anyone been in this situation and what did you do? (Don’t need any suggestions of who can sign it I’m aware and have looked through the list but don’t have anyone that can do it) is there anything else that can be done if you’ve been in this situation?

That list is not exhaustive, someone unrelated with a valid British passport will do.

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 15:58

As I said I’m not looking for who can do it there is no one I’ve thought for years how to do it I’m only asking if anyone has been in this situation and what alternatives there is

Ask in your local post office, they did my kids for me

Cabbagefamily · 23/03/2025 15:59

Do you work? Your employer?

MissRainbowBrite · 23/03/2025 15:59

If you ask at your children’s school either their teacher or the headteacher will probably do it for you. They may ask for a small donation to the PTA in return.

whichkindof · 23/03/2025 15:59

And no it doesn’t have to be the post master, just anyone that works in the post office

Have you contacted the advice line?

Maviaz · 23/03/2025 16:00

Well no. If you want to go abroad you need to get them passports so you’ll have to find someone.
You are aware that with children the person is signing to say they’ve known the parent for at least 2 years.
Do you have a British passport? Can you ask the person who did yours?

dementedpixie · 23/03/2025 16:00

It doesn't have to be someone with a profession as they can be 'of good standing in the community' too. What about a neighbour? I have one that's a nurse. Anyone have their own small business? Hairdresser? Do you work? A colleague?

They don’t do it.

Thanks but as said I don’t need suggestions there is no one. I will try calling them.

What about one of the class parents?

dementedpixie · 23/03/2025 16:02

There can't be no-one at all. But yes, ring the helpline and see what they say.

Twinstudy · 23/03/2025 16:03

I mean I know you're saying you don't want suggestions but I'm not sure what you do want? If you want to get them passports you'll have to find someone

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 16:03

I will call the helpline and see what they suggest.

So you have nobody who is a nice responsible person who has known you for 2 years? No friends, neighbours or colleagues who could identify you?
Literally no-one?
You live in the middle of nowhere? Or on the moon perhaps?

I asked if anyone has been in this position and what did they do?

I thought if you went to the passport office in person you didn't have to get it signed, because they can see it's you.

The school won’t do it. I know others who have got it done by the teachers but they won’t do it. That was my option.

Did you not see my post about asking in your local post office ? Do you use it often enough for someone to say they know your child?

Well, if you’ve thought “for years”, what’s wrong with the obvious ones? Do your children not go to nursery or school? You’ve never had a postman? Never been to a local shop, hairdresser? You don’t have a landlord? Do you have no contact with any other human beings? There’s no automatic right to a passport, so you need to prove your identity.

It’s just my children's passports I need that would be good if they could do it like that.

At the next parents evening, or when you have a one on one with a teacher or even better the Head, get them on side and say ‘I’m wondering if you could do me a favour? I’ve been putting off getting passports for years as I don’t have anyone that could sign them. Would you mind doing it? I’d be so grateful. I won’t tell other parents as I know you won’t want everyone asking. Happy to donate £30 to the PTA / Friends of the School.

I’m sure they would. They can’t just say they won’t do it? Why not?

Twinstudy · 23/03/2025 16:05

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 16:03

They'll have found someone, which is why people are suggesting ideas because it's the only answer. I'm not trying to be a dick, I just think you should consider the suggestions because someone might have an idea you haven't thought of

HappydaysArehere · 23/03/2025 16:05

When I was teaching I was asked several times to do this.
