Don’t have anyone to sign passport

I really want to take my children abroad but don’t have anyone to do their passports. Has anyone been in this situation and what did you do? (Don’t need any suggestions of who can sign it I’m aware and have looked through the list but don’t have anyone that can do it) is there anything else that can be done if you’ve been in this situation?

Depends on the school. At least one other poster has said school won't do it.

You can't use relatives.

The idea that someone in the garage who did your MOT would meet the criteria is laughable.

The owner of a garage probably could do it - certainly if it’s a limited company or has a franchise from a car manufacturer.

Why? The owner of the garage that’s been doing my MOT for the past 20 years is perfectly eligible to sign for me.

anyway, it’s all irrelevant as the OP literally knows no one, talks to no one and her kids don’t have any mates.

Well what a charmer. Having posted saying she couldn't get any information from other threads about the same subject she refuses to say if she has actually had any success having rung the passport office.

There could be some people out there who would be able to benefit if she has received useful advice from the PO but she prefers to chuck her toys out of the pram because people have had the affrontery to offer suggestions which might help. Not everybody has been rude indeed most of them haven't been.

It's all a wind up isn't it?

The person signing has to know the applicant for at least 2 years and be able to recognise the applicant from a photograph. I've been using the same provider for 10 years- they wouldn't have a clue who I am.

Most have been! Read the bloody thread honestly anyway like I said I’m the only one in this situation ever 😉

The OP should not be discussing on here what the PO advised her. The only thing anyone needs to know is if there is a difficulty contact the PO.

It’s a bit fact specific I think

I live in a large city so the owner of the garage who does my MOT probably like yours wouldn’t know me. My parents in law live more rurally and the owner of their local garage definitely would.

If he were shown a photo of you can he say "that's Jibberty". If he can't , he shouldn't be signing.

Are you Shamima Begum? As it’s hard to think of any other set of circumstances which is so unique!

Edited

Agreed. There's nothing special about his status as garage owner- he's simply someone of good standing who knows your parents.

I don’t need to help others, I’m the only person that’s ever been in this situation.

And how exactly do you know that?
You are being extremely childish. Grow up.

If its their own business and they've known you for over 2 years then I don't see why not

Onemorenamechangeagain · 26/03/2025 12:55

Youagain2025 · 26/03/2025 11:55

The problem is people think they know the answer. Such as the gp, who as you say can't sign it. At my kids school the teachers won't/can't sign. I don't talk to parents at my kids school only in passing . And they are single mums at home , unemployed, or carers to sen kids .

Posters also get upset that you don't take their advice even though you can't . They also think because they know theses people that you do to and they can't see beyond that .

But even then most people have friends, or even friends of friends. One of them will at least be a council worker, carer, nurse or teaching assistant, at least one will be a small business owner or union rep. It doesn't have to be a white collar professional, that's a misconception a lot of people have.
