i always forget about the dating pros over here. Have posted something in relationships, but realised this thread might be more helpful.

This is a very silly thing to be worrying about i know. But i just need some advice on how to play it.

Have been emailing this guy from a dating site. He seems quite nice, not like the usual muppet that is on there.

We have been texting for about a week now and hes tried to phone me a few times.

First time i rejected the call and said i was out and couldnt talk.

Second time i cancelled the call and said i was in the supermarket.

Last night he text and said did i fancy a chat, and i said i had a friend round.

I do actually want to speak to him and i find it really flattering that he wants to talk to me. But im nervous as anything and i have no idea what to say.

Does anyone have any tips, or pointers... or can give me slap round the face to tell me to get a grip.

BlackFLAMECandle · 17/10/2010 09:31

I hate phone calls so have no advice!

Gonna go back with a mate for the barman. Wink I have no idea how to go about it but I am up for giving it a shot.

I've missed something with the bet lynch dress...

Got Carrot round this evening... should be interesting!

Hi All, Just catching up. Have just taken mum out for lunch - armed with a blender as she cant eat solid food! Resturant were really nice about it. Mum is now asleep so I thought I'd check in..

Had lovely lunch with doc yesterday - we both agreed we could have happily stayed there drinking wine together all afternoon. Then he held my hand on the way back to the car and stopped for a kiss before I left. Still not sure what I think but he is def growing on me. The distance and all my other problems are a bit of a showstopper ATM - but at least he is cheering me up Smile

Sounds great elasta, glad to hear your weekend is going well.

I'm hiding out from a gaggle of 11 year old girls having a belated birthday party...but at least I've got all my marking done that I brought home almost a week ago :)

BlackFLAMECandle · 17/10/2010 17:51

Oh that sounds good elasta.

Productive day here. My lovely mum cut my grass and i did piles of house stuff. chatting to a toy boy too henceforth known as vw.

I hate phone calls too. I have a horrible voice so think it will put them off but if we meet then I will have to speak to them so usually nervously do the phone call if they insist.

I would arrange the call when you are relaxed, kids in bed and having some me time, perhaps with a chilled glass if you drink. Don't forget a conversation has to be two way so let him ask you questions if you cannot think of anything to say. If it's like pulling teeth then it doesn't bode well for a date. Also keep it brief if you are clamming up then say it was lovely to speak but someone is ringing the door bell.

I will say my voice hasn't put anyone off so far! Grin

Went out last night, it was fun, went to the local nightclub full off offsprings of my friends. One bloke came over saying how nice it was to see people his age in there. He was a couple of years younger but if it was a chat up line he failed miserably. Nice to have it rubbed in. Also met someone foreign who said he was from Tehran and did that put me off. Yes was the reply. Fact is his English was crap!

LG has resurfaced, apparently we got our wires crossed, but he still hasn't moved and isn't asking to see me again. We had a text exchange.

Have just messaged back an obvious scammer eg yet another Nigerian/Ghanian pretending to be a US serviceman telling him I'm in the army too and supporting my mother and three children and asking if we could meet up when I get back from Iraq. Any takers as to whether he'll bother responding ...

lou33 · 17/10/2010 19:40

Brilliant kdk !

kdk · 17/10/2010 20:34

Have had message back .... 'Thank u i do understand u but what i wnat u to know ius that love can be found and feel in any where in the wold what is the important is trust and honest looking forward to hear back from u '

Okayyyy - so which bit of trust and honesty are we talking about do you think?

kdk · 17/10/2010 20:35

Speaking of which - did any of you see the article in today's Sunday Times magazine?

Remotew · 17/10/2010 20:41

What article, link please?

kdk · 17/10/2010 20:50

Not sure if this will work as I think you need to be a subscriber - is an article about (mainly African) scammers targetting people on dating sites - both men and women, gay and straight. Features a couple of women who've lost thousands of pounds - also mentioned a bloke who when he found out his 'love' was just a scam, topped himself.

Did you miss the one I got the other day from the supreme commander of the US army in Afghanistan??

Remotew · 17/10/2010 21:01

You have to subscribe! I don't get any of this sort of thing from POF. I do get emails for some reason to my private email address but can spot them before I open them. They are obviously scammers who send a message in broken English with a photo attached which is a model.

A male friend of mine in his 60's fell for one of these scams. He was talking to this 'women' for a while and 'she' was sending him pictures of 'her' family. He realised it was a scam when 'she' started asking for money. He's a stingy old buggar and wouldn't have paid a penny. I told him it was a con but he said it brightened up his days. Sad

kdk · 17/10/2010 21:13

Can copy and paste - or maybe could pm it? There was something similar on BBC News Online not so long ago. Seems to be a spate of scammers mainly pretending to be US servicemen for some reason, though for the life of me can't imagine what they think the attraction is ...

BlackFLAMECandle · 17/10/2010 21:16

Argh! Do NOT let the crush hold the baby. now I have butterflies.

Even more frustrating... he likes me as much as I like him. He is just fcking scared of screwing it up. As we are it never gets screwed up and we don't hate each other. Jealousy was written all over him when I told him about Mr Dull of Dullsville.

And yes. I am still too bloody stupid to walk away.

BlackFLAMECandle · 17/10/2010 21:24

I just wrote an essay and it wiped it.

Argh! Note to self... do NOT let the crush hold the baby. now the butterflies come.

Really annoying thing is he likes me as much as I like him. He is fcking scared of screwing it up and if we aren't a couple he can't and we don't end up hate each other.

i know i should back away but we all know i won't.

Jealousy was all over his face when I told him about Mr Dull of Dullsville.

OP posts:
kdk · 17/10/2010 21:24

For f*ck's sake, tell him to crap or get off the pot and let someone else have a chance. If he wants you in that way, tell him he's got to go for it else you'll kerb him and find someone who does!

BlackFLAMECandle · 17/10/2010 21:25

it appeared!!! how weird...

BlackFLAMECandle · 17/10/2010 21:26

I am not stopping the sites and he knows that.

OP posts:
Remotew · 17/10/2010 21:28

I'm sure this might have been suggested already, do you think he might have a problem in the bedroom dept Flame?

BlackFLAMECandle · 17/10/2010 21:28

I said that I'd asked how he felt before going... he said he thought it was hypothetical :o
