ULEZ

Is it right that sadiq khan's gas guzzling entourage is exempt from paying ULEZ charges.

I have no idea however since the ULEZ is about protecting local air quality NOT preventing climate change , the fuel consumption of his vehicle is irrelevant

Applebeard · 29/08/2023 08:10

His 'gas guzzling entourage' doesn't pay ULEZ because the 'gas guzzling entourage' is ULEZ compliant.

The end.

ShrinkingSusan · 29/08/2023 08:11

The man needs to be sacked, whatever he and his cronies drive.

It is believed khan's sentinel supplied by the met is euro 5, they refuse to confirm or deny citing operational reasons.

It is nothing about clean air it is fining people who cannot afford to buy new cars or other vehicles. It is fund raising for his massive number of employees employed by his office

When the electorate vote him out he will be. That’s how democracy works.

Hopefully this ULEZ handwringing dies out when most people realise they don’t have to pay because their cars are compliant. Absolute shit stirring by the Tories whose policy this was. You’d think they gave better things to do.

Wayou · 29/08/2023 09:31

I hope he gets voted out. He's destroyed London.

He's a cunt. He makes me so angry.

Cornishclio · 29/08/2023 09:43

I don't live in London any more but my 10 year old diesel car is not ULEZ compliant. I pay no road tax, have an eco setting on the car and there is only 33k mileage on it. When I go up to London I will use my husbands much bigger but newer diesel car which is compliant. The tax on that is near enough £200 which I thought indicated level of emissions.

Ironically diesel was encouraged when I bought my car as being cleaner Hmm

Onegoingonmaybe2 · 29/08/2023 09:44

As a Londoner I agree he is the biggest twat

Seeline · 29/08/2023 09:47

It makes me bloody fuming watching TfLs old diesel buses trundling up and down my road every 12 minutes belching out smoke and fumes.

It makes me bloody fuming watching TfLs old diesel buses trundling up and down my road every 12 minutes belching out smoke and fumes.

But what if you split the 40 or so people on the bus into separate cars. The relative problem with one bus would dwarf into insignificance.

It's a bit of a red herring though. Most buses in London are moving to much cleaner forms of fuel and are generally plentiful and swift.

Air quality is an issue and even if it weren't there are just too many cars on the road that don't need to be. The vast majority of journeys are short and could be walked/ cycled or not taken at all. If this is helping that then good for our Mayor.

I am aware this is an unpopular opinion among people wedded to their cars.

As a Londoner I disagree and think ULEZ doesn't go far enough

There is a lot of people out there whose cars won't be compliant. It's a massive hit on poorer people.

https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/motoring-news/drivers-greater-london-could-be-liable-to-pay-the-ULEZ-this-summer/

Fewer than 10% of cars aren't compliant

978q · 29/08/2023 15:40

While W'minster does nothing to reel khan in, Glasgow has secured a judicial review, as to the legality of any ULEZ scheme, Edinburgh watching closely.

"Judge Lady Poole gave permission for a judicial review of the Glasgow scheme, saying the case "raises an important matter of public interest". She said that interest included the "wider issues of air quality and climate change which underlie the matters challenged ... and the legality of the scheme".

Don't you care about the financial hit on that 10 percent of poorer / vulnerable people?

Wayou · 29/08/2023 18:16

London will be a ghost town if Khan has his way. Maybe that's what he's after. Businesses failing, people won't travel into London for work or leisure, others will be left vulnerable and broke. Perfect for the 15 minute city model though, no one will bother to go out because there won't be anything to do.

sleepyscientist · 29/08/2023 18:27

The fact a 5l Range Rover is cleaner than some cars (<10%) shows why we need more action not less. If Range Rover can do it on that no car should be non compliant on any road.

Wayou · 29/08/2023 18:35

Khan should tackle the stinking tubes, the pollution is way higher down there. The streets are generally in the safe zone. But wait. That means Khan wouldn't be able to charge the non compliant £12.50 and then extend his camera usage for all sorts of things to make people's lives more miserable.

CallistaFlockfart · 29/08/2023 18:37

Maybe Khan would like to deal with log burners filling the atmosphere with toxic smoke but.... you can't tax log burners.

Wayou · 29/08/2023 18:41

I might get a log burner.

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/08/2023 18:42

Do all the people ignorantly slagging khan off on this thread realise that this is a Tory policy mandated by Westminster and has nothing to do with Khan?

If you have an issue take it up with Shapps. Khan couldn’t stop this even if he wanted too. Westminster forced his hand.

Erm... the tube is all electric so no fossil- fuel pollution

Lazyusername · 29/08/2023 20:12

Why is Khan not travelling everywhere on a bicycle?
