ULEZ

Is it right that sadiq khan's gas guzzling entourage is exempt from paying ULEZ charges.

Hmm so Khan tried to silence scientists who disagreed and questioned him. I’m yet to be convinced it works then.

Wayou · 31/08/2023 08:40

Yes Khan certainly has manipulated the data and tried to silence scientists who disagree with the results of the research he commissioned.

Barbadossunset · 31/08/2023 08:46

It’s ironic in a way that you have to pay ulez to go to Heathrow.
Are all those hundreds of planes which land and take off every day ulez compliant?

978q · 31/08/2023 09:51

Why is he letting people keep "polluting" for £12.50 a go, if it is so deadly.
Also heard snake eyes sunak wringing his hands and spouting his usual globalist drivel about it yesterday, what can we do it is up to the people to vote him out

Meanwhile in Scotland, a Judge has ordered a Judicial review into the scam.

I think it’s a disgrace. A pure money making scam.

And to think the difference he could of made with the original 160mil he spent on the zone, and the 110mil he spent on the scrappage scheme - which again makes no sense! 110mil / 2k… that number of cars is not inline with the 95% compliant.

It’s just a con. It’s expected to net 200 mil in its first year in profit. That’s directly coming out the pockets of the poorest.

We are trying to upgrade our car atm. We have a 2 door ‘15 Mini Paceman. Was bought during the time when diesel was incentivised as cleaner. Just before they u turned. It’s not compliant. It has less than 100,000 miles. It’s a great car in terms of reliability and less than half way through its life. We needed to upgrade before this ukez expansion. Because we have a 1 year old and can’t lift him in the rear anymore.

Have we managed it yet? No! Because nearly every flipping car is 20-30k. It’s bizarre. It seems no matter what brand, what model, they are all the same price. And sure just buy an older car, but then we have the same problem again in 2-3 yrs.

Because most people won't spend the 12 a day

Because even if it's not perfect it's having a significant benefit

Perhaps you could make a positive suggestion that is cheaper and gives better results ?

It's a con to rinse the motorists, a con supported by the tories too, in fact near all of the Westminster spongers.

I know 9 people out of work now so yep they won't be spending £12.50 a day and yep your going to be paying their benefit enjoy

midgemadgemodge · 31/08/2023 13:21

Yes some people will suffer

But a few people being temporary out of work compared to people dying ... hum dead or out of work which would you choose ?

978q · 31/08/2023 13:37

It is amazing how some are led to the koolade and swig it vigorously, the ulez scam is saving no lives, it will more than likely cause more premature deaths amongst the poor.

All petrol vehicles since about 2006 are exempt. Diesels since about 2016 ditto. You also get £2000 scrappage if your car isn't compliant. For £2,000 you can easily get something small and compliant.

This isn't some deep, dark plot to make people starve; it's somebody actually, for a very welcome change, making the decision that makes their own life a lot harder in order to make other peoples' lives better. If you're one of the people adversely affected, then that's unfortunate; claim your £2k.

But please, stop with the conspiracy theories. That way America lies...

I live on the boundary, not within the zone and so I can't scrap my car. But I need it to get to work within the zone. It'll require a 20 minute walk then an hour of public transport to get me there and i am waiting on a knee replacement so not possible for me to even do the walk.

Should I be asking for a blue badge? Does it make me exempt?

People will die when they can't work, they can't get to hospitals, care workers can't come get out to the vulnerable, key workers move out of London hospitals and find work elsewhere or just give up those jobs. And for what? An absolute lie that you and others have bought into so that your streets are clearer.

So shortsighted.

I choose get rid of the ULEZ before it causes serious harm to many many people.

Lonelycrab · 31/08/2023 20:59

As a driver, cyclist and pedestrian who’s lived in both inner and outer London for 25yrs of my life I support it.

DefinitelyNobodyYouKnow · 01/09/2023 09:25

@obladeeobladah That does suck, granted.

Equally, vehicles that are not ULEZ compliant are also not Euro5 compliant, and do emit far too much air pollution for a dense place like London... it's the right thing to do to change your car anyway. Also, it's going to be getting on a bit - best case it's now a seven-year-old diesel, or a much older petrol car.

Can you not sell it? Or trade it in on something compliant?

There is no evidence that people are dying from poor air quality caused by nox in outer London more particulates come from tyre dust etc and the airplanes.....do you fly? Do you use the underground with its appalling air quality which he would prefer us to use? Is air quality so good on London buses which were so clean and healthy bus drivers were dropping with Covid?

Good article 978q. And very true.

midgemadgemodge · 01/09/2023 14:20

There is evidence that people die from pollution caused by traffic , and the evidence also shows that the effect is quite localised - so you don't die from traffic many miles away

The research exists and is clear so I don't know why you deny it

The research doesn't need to be specific to outer London - where the pollution can be measured above a certain level near where people live and work then people are dying from the pollution

The levels of pollution are affected by many things including weather

Let it run a year for a real measurement

And use that year to do some real research not parrot a DM headline

Which part of it's a scam is escaping you, all of it apparently.
