New thread for August.

SJ/bunyan - Garsons farm thing looks interesting. I'll see if dh wants to venture out that far! Though we have too much veg to be eaten at home at the moment... I guess we can always pick some fruits. Hmmm.

mellow2 · 22/08/2008 10:25

SJ and bunyan,
I used a baba sling to carry dd till she was 12 months old. I highly recommend it as a new born carrier. You're welcome to mine. It's a red one so it'll suit either a boy or a girl.

morning, everyone

blimey, i forgot it was BH too.
hope everyone has a loveley one
paddle - you'll get disco withdrawal syndrome
enjoy your last day

sfx..i must swap (bad) jokes with your dh then

have met my deadlines - wahey.
so can now have no excuse for a bit of mothering..

taking ds1 today with a friend to the dr who exhibition. actually, he's been invited by himself, but i'm tagging along, too..
under the guise of adult company/back-up - really i just want to go!

talking about mothering/parenting..i was thanking dh last night for running the domestic front while i've been working this week

so far, so good..
but then it ended up in a tirade (not directed at him personally) about how everyone thinks fathers are so 'good" if they do things most mothers do every day. Buzzzzzzzzzzz (bee in my bonnet)

ohhhhh, the digger's arrived.
toodlepip

mellow2 · 22/08/2008 10:40

Well done steppie.

OP posts:
stepfordwife · 22/08/2008 10:41

hey mellow, thanks
it's a great feeling to get it finished, isn't it?

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 10:45

well done steppie
btw I can imagine a slightly tipsy 'duel' of jokes and puns

know what you mean about the praise to the good men. dh was quite incensed when people used to refer to his stint as a SAHD as, childcare and how good of you.

just ordered some food and am busy meal planning this last week was a bit wasteful as I felt so out of sorts

rosmerta · 22/08/2008 11:17

steppie, I know what you mean. When dh looks after ds for one day I feel obliged to be so grateful, and that's not with him doing any housework either!

Thanks to everyone posting up sling/carrier recommendations. I am definitely planning on getting one so handy to know which ones are worth it.

No bread making today, forgot we were going away so busy getting washing done, bags packed etc.

slng · 22/08/2008 11:40

Ros - I've started to tell myself NOT to feel grateful unnecessarily! It's funny, isn't it?

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 12:00

I think anything beyond normal appreciation is too much and unnecessary, dh always says thanks for dinner etc and likewise if I need to study and he pops out with dd but not tat I think it is above and beyond the call of duty

just been sorting pictures of hen night and honeymoon, goodness I look fresh faced bloody long hair too
also found pics from when we first moved in together back in '96 mere children we were

rosmerta · 22/08/2008 12:03

A miracle just happened, putting away the underwear & every single sock matched up . First time that's ever happened I think

Sfx, I love looking over photos (as long as I'm not in them!). I especially love old photos, when my nan died, me, my mum & aunt were clearing out her house. We must have spent about 2hrs just going through all her photos, having a nosy!

mellow2 · 22/08/2008 12:18

Ros,
I thought you were only interested in baby carriers not slings. Let me know if you would like to check out mine.

OP posts:
mellow2 · 22/08/2008 12:23

Steppie,
It certainly is. And now you can play with dc and not worry.

OP posts:
rosmerta · 22/08/2008 13:09

Mellow, that would be great if you don't mind. Must admit, I don't like carriers for newborns, don't think they have enough support for them or you.

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 13:14

quick question for those in the know please

  • do I need to label everything for dd when she starts nursery? TIA
slng · 22/08/2008 13:18

sfx - we didn't. We've lost one pair of trousers (and some handkerchiefs) and acquired one pair of trousers, 3 shirts and innumerable bibs in 1 year and 9 months.

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 13:28

I expect things like coats etc need proper labelling the idea of losing stuff does not appeal
I know it is only a couple of mornings a week but am feeling all wobbly

mellow2 · 22/08/2008 13:34

I highly recommend label planet. I buy all my labels for my shop from them. They provide really good service and have a no-fuss return policy

Though I think it might be one label too many if you need to label coats only.

OP posts:
mellow2 · 22/08/2008 13:34

sfx,
maybe we could one set and share them.

OP posts:
mellow2 · 22/08/2008 13:35

Not unless our DDs have the same name. Silly me!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 22/08/2008 13:46

LOL mellow I suppose they have years of school and labelling ahead so they don't really go to waste

dd is watching some Diego and Dora big adventure feature horribly inaccurate stuff with our heroes helping out the dinosaurstime travel and all
she does not want me to tell her about the holes in the plot

slng · 22/08/2008 14:01

sfx - I used this. Ours have a little steam train on each label

Are we getting competitive over labels

slng · 22/08/2008 14:04

sfx - I point out the things REAL firefighters wouldn't do when we watch Fireman Sam, like using water on electric fire and waiting for an emergency before turning your fire engine round

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 14:08

that is cute, dh went to the Nursery this morning because I had forgotten to sort out a few things, to be fair it was around the boob trouble time, I had paid the reg fee but forgot to pop over with the deposit
dd was meant to start settling in this week

slng will be baking that choc pear cake to take to my sister's house at the weekend.

SJ99 · 22/08/2008 15:10

Gosh hadn't even thought about labelling etc Best get on to that next week as DS starts the week after

Mellow - wopuld love to check out sling please. I had looked at type, did baby feel secure when you used it? I can't decide whether to use a strap on type or one like this where baby can 'pop out' when asleep, decisions decisions...

DH also needs extra praise, he knows it's OTT but appreciates it so I don't mind as it encourages him to do more childcare He is v.kind to me so can't complain!

Steppie - well done on finishing all your work!

Back from lunch now, it was really nice to see my friend after such a long time, she hadn't changed at all so no awkward silences. BTW Wgagamama in Richmond closed due to a fire

Am also going to make a cake this wkend as friend coming over - either lemon or your pear on Slng, haven't decided yet

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 16:02

dd still walking around in pyjamas oh dear nevermind

trying to get to grips with laundry and ironing is a nit trying
