sfxmum · 22/08/2008 16:03

bit trying that is no nits here yet but I guess their time will come

SushiMummy · 22/08/2008 16:04

sfx - don't worry about the labelling. I normally write DS's name with a pen.[bad mother alert] As for mixing up items, it happens a lot and DS often comes home with someone else's trousers/tshirt/wellies. You just return them the next day/week and it's as simeple as that. DS starts pre-school next month so we might see you there! Oh, the staff there are very friendly and open minded so don't hesitate to talk to them on anything. Good luck!

slng · 22/08/2008 16:09

We are trying to go to the library but ds1 is sitting by the door forcing ds2 who hasn't put on his shoes yet to listen to a nonsensical thomas story.

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 16:16

sushi by pre school do you mean the 3-5 group?
we got an invite for the food day thing on the 6th I expect dd is invited too
thanks for info

am now having second thoughts about primary school, but if reception is on the academic year they turn 5 it means dd will start next year not ready for this

stepfordwife · 22/08/2008 17:43

marker pen

i know, sfx, dd starts reception next year, seems far too young. have to keep reminding myself she starts nursery in september.

well dr who exhibition was pretty good, actually except my friend's ds who's 3 was terrified, quite dark and lots of noise, lasers, etc.
would have liked a longer look around, but ds and his pal went around at breakneck speed.

god knows how we were so dim, but we managed to avoid the 10ft high tardis that's entrance to exhibition and ended up on the wrong floor, backstage to them getting ready for george michael....
we were led off by a very nice security chap

hope you've all enjoying the sunshine
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 22/08/2008 17:45

just for your dh, sfx, have named the portaloo/tardis looking so classy in our front garden the....turdis
boom boom

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 18:03

oh steppie dh will love that he laugh at your last one too

did I ever tell the story of my BIL who was at a small gig by whoever Led Zeppelin I think, and he went to the toilet and somehow ended up backstage he walked on stage look at all the gear handled it then went up to the mic and said 'hello hello' the walked back out.

my niece told this story on xfm under embarrassing things dads do and won something, she also called her dad and asked him to turn the radio on

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 18:04

hasn't George Michael retired? is he hard up?

stepfordwife · 22/08/2008 18:36

hee hee
love the BIL led zep story

he was supposed to have retired from live shows, i think, but has spent last two years on a world tour, and the two dates at EC at wkend are supposed to the ed of his touring, i think..

we asked one of his 'people" where the dr who exhibition was. this very confused american girl, looked at us blankly and said"I don't know who dr who is..i'm with the tour." (if only she'd said band)
think she thought we were looking for a medic..

slng · 22/08/2008 20:03

steppie - turdis

What is everyone up to this BH? I've just gone and got a load of light reading from the library... And a big tome called "a baker's bible" and ds1 flipped to a page and said we should cook that - a souffle ... Has anyone done a souffle and is it difficult and is it worth it?

We (ds1 and I, apparently) are going to bake cookies for the nursery kids and a cake for the staff in honour of DS1's last day there next Friday. Unfortunately he has already mentioned this mythical cake to his favourite nursery staff and she has already requested chocolate cake ...

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 20:08

oh the pesky children! I baked a something called a double baked cheese shoufle which then went into a filo pastry case and was topped with some roast #it was a lot of hard work but it was main course for veggie Christmas dinner

as I recall the main difficulty was keeping the right temperature and careful with the mixing. lots of air needed

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 20:09

roast veg, I am sleepy and tired

slng · 22/08/2008 20:19

me too. went to bed past midnight last night ... Going to veg out and watch poirot later - only here for a minute because I just cooked something and the fumes are lethal in the kitchen - these flipping chilies ...

slng · 22/08/2008 20:21

will probably try soufle (how do you spell it anyway) one day because it's unchartered territory...

lucky veggie friends you have. My ones just get tofu. Or thai green curry with all plausible veg thrown in ... actually that was quite nice ...

SJ99 · 22/08/2008 20:27

I have made souffle but not for about 4yrs. It was a brunch version & yummy, must check that I still have the recipe. Won't be making it til DS egg allergy has gone though.

at Dr Who incident and Led Zep story!

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 20:36

a nice soufle is well worth it but it can be labour intensive it has to be melt in the mouth deliciousness

sfxmum · 22/08/2008 20:37

sorry souffle not soufle that is something else

slng · 23/08/2008 08:45

Good morning!

sfxmum · 23/08/2008 10:47

slng you poor thing posting at the crack of dawn

SJ99 · 23/08/2008 10:57

DH put up black out blinds in DS room last night and DS slept til 9am, bliss!

Been for swim this morning which was lovely
Have decided we'll do more unpacking house stuff today then go to Esher Farm tom and for a walk in Surrey (DH found in his book) on Mon. Great weekend sorted now, should be quite relaxing.

Good luck for souffle Slng

Hope everyone enjoys their weekends

sfxmum · 23/08/2008 11:28

dd only interested in dh today so am having a break, I think he might pop out soon and she will be heartbroken guess she can help me bake the chocolate cake

today we dismantle the cot, which so far dd has not allowed and it will be taken to the recycling place with due ceremony

SJ the Guardian had one of those little books they do all about walks in London am really keen on doing a few of those but dh not so much, I fear I might become a rambles in later years

have a nice time all

PaddlePig · 23/08/2008 12:19

and you're still talking about food!

susiecutiebananas · 23/08/2008 13:13

Hello all

I managed to get up at a reasonable time this morning with Dd, when she first woke up, which felt like a good start to the day. Rather than an hour or so of her hanging off me 'feeding' and singing...

So, we made some muffins - a nigella recipe which was really easy to do and I had most of the ingredients! It was supposed to be Orange Breakfast Muffins, but I didn't have an orange so I used a few mandarins instead. Juiced them for the fresh juice part. Then prelaced part of the flour amount with bran so they're actually pretty healthy as well as really tasty! yes, I'm shocked, my baking usually turns out.. ahem... interesting

Still no DH - but he told me last night he was going to get some paperwork done in peace then come... I'll be expecting him sometime after 11pm then Still, its an improvement on to telling me at all!

slng · 23/08/2008 18:57

Hello all!

We went to that Diana memorial playground place in Hyde Park and had a good long play. Attempt at cooking a failure - kids don't like tuna steak cooked. They prefer it raw

Also actually hoovered vacuumed upstairs. Now going to do downstairs, after herculean effort at tidying up. I need a drink.

SJ99 · 23/08/2008 19:13

Hello all

Susie - hope your Dh doesn't come home too late

Slng - glad you a had a good day out. I made your choc/pear cake, v. tasty and light!
