Other thread full, so hope you all find me

Sushi, sorry I don't know anyone but there is a nanny agency near Kew Bridge. Hope ds is ok, typical of them to get ill at exactly the wrong time, isn't it?!

Foxie, we've sent off our form so am hoping we get our first choice (Weymouth)!

rosmerta · 22/05/2008 12:55

slng, don't forget a big poster for the escape attempt

sj, congratulations on mortgage offer.

I think our move is on hold for the time being. Valuation was ok considering the market but looking at the house in terms of a buyer there's still a bit of work, decorating-wise, to be done and I think that realistically we wouldn't get our minimum price to be able to afford to move. So you're stuck with me for another 2/3 yrs

OP posts:
SJ99 · 22/05/2008 13:24

Slng - I'm sure one of us can bring you a loaf with a key hidden inside when visiting

Ros - pity about the valuation but good news that you're sticking around

OMG, I am completely stunned. I bought DS a potty and gave it to him just now, he immediately asked for his clothes/nappy off, sat down and did a poo I wasn't expecting that, I'm sure it's beginners luck but let's hope it continues. Looks like we've started potty training then

Paddlechick666 · 22/05/2008 13:45

oooh SJ, I am

dd is still very random, won't even consider a poo on the toilet (or potty) even tho she is desperate for Big Girl FiFi Knickers (I blame you Steppie!)

This morning she happily told me grown ups don't do poos. Specifically CM who only does wees

I'm actually a tiny bit relieved as I really don't have the time/energy/inclination to devote to potty training right now!

slng · 22/05/2008 13:55

Paddle - don't launch in to potty-training until you are ready! I'm certainly just ignoring ds2's mild protestations about "no nappy", until we get back from holiday, at least. I bought 13 pairs of pants for 2 pounds at a sale in honour of ds1's potty adventure! Must dig them out again soon and wave them under ds2's nose.

Anyway kids back now and I feel better - kids, even at their worst, are so much better than really stupid grown-ups.

Ros - we are going to Syon Park, may or may not go into snakes and ladders. I think there's a a garden centre there so we might buy some more playsand to sprinkle about our garden.

Amanda78 · 22/05/2008 14:02

Hi All,

SJ - Great, wow what a big boy!

Actually been meaning to ask! DD (19 months) has recently been pulling down her trousers and pulling at her nappy and saying wee wee!

I do as she asks and take her to the toilet but she has no interest. I think she has seen the big kids at nursery doing it and is copying.

Do you think 19 months is too young to potty train? I'm in no rush but don't want to hold her back!

rosmerta · 22/05/2008 14:04

Slng, there is a garden centre there, ds has more fun playing around the sheds at the cafe than he does at S&L. There's also a Tropical Rainforest type place with fish/animals etc.

Sj, well done with the potty. Still a novelty with ds atm, sometimes he'll sit on it but not often. I tried stickers but that didn't work as he put it in the wee rather than on the side!

hello chaps
diddling well?
kew, don't worry about telling sing to turn herself in to social services..i've already shopped her done my public duty.

seriously, sing, it's outrageous for her to make comment. why do the majority of doctors' receptionists seem to be bitches from hell/dim/insane?

when i have to talk to one of the banshees, as a reasonably intelligent, articualate person (stop sniggering at the back of the class) it makes me wonder how on earth old dears or more vulnerable cope with them.

would deffo make a complaint. but wait for the bile to settle..calm, measured disdain with lots of expressing your 'disappointment" is quite a good tactic, imo.

kew, yes dd is still insisting on singing happy birthday to herself! ds' talking is coming on, isn't it? had a little "chat" this morning about how i saw him with nanny yesterday..well lots of 'yes!" and frantic head-nodding!

paddle...guilty as charged, guv. dd has an enviable collection of fifi knickers.
i was so lucky with potty training with dd, i decided to do it during summer holidays last year and she just did it herself, really.
when the time's right for dd, she'll just click.
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 22/05/2008 14:05

good luck with scan, ros
and congrats on mortgage, SJ

Kewcumber · 22/05/2008 14:07

Paddle - to be frnal my version of potty training doesn;t take any effort at all apart from the first two days.

Potty training the Kewcumber (single working mother lazy) way (and diametrically opposed to what everyone else tells you to do)

  1. put them in pull ups (be careful they don't hold as much so will need changing more often until they get the hang of it
  2. put them on the potty everytime you go - books/toys/chocolate are good incentives
  3. pick an idol and tell them repeatedly how XX uses the toilet/potty
  4. do this for weeks and don't stress if it makes not a jot of difference
  5. go bare as much as possible

We are 80% of the way there - DS has gone from scremaing the place down if he is asked to poo in the potty and doing it quite happily (cue much clapping and admiration) about every other day.

I'm sure there are quicker ways to do it but it seemed to work for us.

rosmerta · 22/05/2008 14:11

Kew that sounds like a good plan. Might implement that after the holiday. Just a bit hit & miss with us atm (so to speak )

Ds awake after only 45mins, apparently 'naughty fly' to blame

OP posts:
Paddlechick666 · 22/05/2008 14:19

i'm awaiting warmer weather tbh and also a more reliable early warning system - maybe some sort of alarm that is moisture/smell activated.

maybe not, as both would be too late LOL!

tend to be of the Steppie school and figure DD will crack it when she's ready.

i am pretty lazy laid back about it all really.

agent finally called, apparently one of last week's viewings is keen but hasn't been financially assessed yet. no further word from HA.

i still have a slightly cynical feeling that i'm being sold a line.......

parents are making noises about wading in with some extra funds to get me up the next rung and into a bigger/nicer property and also taking advantage of drop in market.

not sure what i think at the mo........

SJ99 · 22/05/2008 14:48

Good plan Kew. Tbh I'm pretty shocked still at DS, I never planned to start potty atm especially as we'll be moving in 4wks! We've talked a lot about potty training and I only bought the thing to show him what I've been talking about! Might as well buy the pants & toilet seat as well now. I'm sure novelty factor is in there too. Might try him bare at home and keep offering him potty and see how it goes...

Good luck with viewings Paddle, there are buyers out there but getting finance is tough. I know a great mortgage guy if you need one

Paddlechick666 · 22/05/2008 15:07

thanks SJ, i am intending to "port" my mortgage as borrowed amount will not change.

did you use my recommendation then?

btw, apparently M&S have an offer on of dinner for 2 incl bottle of wine for £10.

will be having a look on way home this eve!

sfxmum · 22/05/2008 16:02

hello all

back from pool and Kew very tired as dd is supremely whiny today - but hey at least we went out and she got plenty of exercise in between complaining and whining about everything - feel better now

amanda as for potty training, not too early if they are ready dd started just before she was 2 a couple of months later she was without nappy during the night. but be prepared for accidents and Kewcumber's strategy is very good too.

Sj well done miniSJ I would make a big fuss of what a big boy he is

Paddlechick666 · 22/05/2008 16:18

dd is still not dry overnight.

Amanda, dd started doing wees on the toilet and telling me she had done a wee at about 19 or 20 months.

i was convinced she was going to be potty trained before 2yrs!

doh!

Paddlechick666 · 22/05/2008 16:19

the shit has quite spectacularly just hit the fan at work.

duck and cover.......

rosmerta · 22/05/2008 16:20

Paddle, I saw that offer, looks great except I can't have the wine . But if I can entice ds out of the garden I might head over to Kew retail later & see what they have!

Scan went well, one baby only (phew), ds very interested & then forgot all about it as soon as we left!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 22/05/2008 16:24

about M&S do you mean take away type food?
will it still be on at weekend?

Ros have you been yet?

Paddle every time you say that about work I get scared you know your lot has my money, well sort of

Paddlechick666 · 22/05/2008 17:36

it's cook at home stuff rather than ready meals. Hope I can split it into 2 and cook half tonight and half Saturday. The wine was over 5 quid alone
don't worry sfx, your dosh couldn't be safer :-)

Kewcumber · 22/05/2008 19:20

Paddle - being dry at night is normally the last thing to happen general order (for physiological reasons) is:

No poo at night
control over poo
control over wee during day
dry at night

slng · 22/05/2008 19:28

Back from snakes and ladders - 3 solid hours of climbing up and down and kids out like a light the minute they hit the pillow. Surprisingly the place was almost completely empty. I have to admit we rather enjoyed it ...

SJ - moving in 4 weeks! How exciting!

Paddle - I thought the shit hitting the fan thing has to do with potty training and almost ducked ...

sfxmum · 22/05/2008 19:35

I feel I might succumb to M&S offer tomorrow

have tutor calling in a minute best get sorted out

dd looks pretty tired so fingers crossed I get to watch Heroes tonight, missed it last week, I thought it was on iplayer but apparently not - most unfair

rosmerta · 22/05/2008 19:59

slng, glad they enjoyed it. Ds also out like a light after a busy day & very short nap!

Sfx, I still have Heroes from last week taped as we haven't started watching it yet. Its on Sky+ but you're welcome to come over tomorrow & watch it?!

OP posts:
Paddlechick666 · 22/05/2008 20:12

my menu for this evening:

chicken breast with mozzarella & pesto melt
ceasar vegetables (aspargus, broccoli & green beans) with butter and parmesan shavings
raspberry panna cotta
bottle of rose

ooooh I'm pretending to be CoV

hope she's enjoying her flight and her sinus' are (is?) better!

dd also out like a light after long day and short nap.

beats last night's 1 hour shout-a-thon!

rosmerta · 22/05/2008 20:13

paddle, that sounds a lot nicer than my chip butties with brown sauce
