QC,
I didn't think we find something we like so quickly, literally in our 1st weekend. The last time we househunted we saw properties over a 6 month period and didn't like anything at all.

So now we know what we want, we'll just have to wait till we get an offer.

SJ99 · 03/03/2008 16:05

Mellow - There are lot more properties on the market compared with when we were looking this time last year, they're not getting snapped up quiet so fast

mellow2 · 03/03/2008 16:08

SJ,

I think you're right. You're in a really good position too as you're chain free. We looked last time this year and everything was getting snapped up as soon as they were on the market.

SJ99 · 03/03/2008 16:12

Yes we're lucky as we can take our time too to find what we want, there is some upside to renting

sfxmum · 03/03/2008 16:18

SJ if you go to Thomas and friends website there is a link to events, link wasn't working for me just now sorry

Mellow sorry about the row hope you get an offer on your place too, seems to be more of a byers than sellers market atm which makes it trickier for chains - she said who knows hardly a thing about property

sushi dh said 'oh the shame the one time that it happens and someone you know is there to witness it'

ComeOVeneer · 03/03/2008 16:33

HI all, hope you are all well. Haven't been around much as have been doing a tonne of research for this new venture. The cake was a phenomenal hit at the party this weekend, as where the "bollywood" inspired mini cakes I made for mothers' day.

With ds now at nursery daily I just can't manage to get to Kew and back between drop off/pick up. But must get together either at the weekend, or in the next hols. Do we have anything in the pipeline for an evening meet-up in the next month or so?

Good luck with the house hunting, I don't envy anyone in that position, (not planning to move for a very long time), but hope it ends up as pain free as possible.

Kewcumber · 03/03/2008 16:44

what does a bollywood inspired cake look like [curious emoticon]

Kew when I get the knack of downloading piccies onto the computer I will show you. Basically they are square fondant fancies (covered in bright pink, yellow, orange and purple fondant icing) decorated with pink marzipan roses/rosebuds and green leaves (with pink or green glitter) and piped patterns finished with gold lustre (all edible). I copied them from this book although the one in this picture looks a lot less colourful than the actual finished product.

fitfox · 03/03/2008 20:51

SJ/Mellow/Sushi - ooh I lurve house hunting. I just relish having an excuse to nose around other people's houses!! Love fantasising about living there too [creepy emoticon]

Steppy/QC - Do Windham do wraparound care now (as opposed to short sessions)? I think you need to live pretty close to Windham to access places as its so over scubscribed.

QC how do the one near you allocate places - what is their addmissions criteria? You are practically next door!

Mellow sorry to hear about your row.

Kewcumber · 03/03/2008 22:04

no windhm just do short sessions. The one round the corner to me (I assume you mean the one on the site of the Primary school?) is too expensive - £32 for half a day -presumably thats why they are the only nursery I can find that currently has open places!

SushiMummy · 04/03/2008 09:13

Morning all.

Mellow/SJ/foxie - haven't done much house hunting lately but we had a letter from a propery company saying someone is interested in our property (it's not even on the market).

sfx - DS would love to see Thomas and his friends on stage but we'll be in Japan. Deffo next time!

QC - we got an e from the council about the previous years catchment of Riverside primary and looks like we wouldn't have got in as the cut-off distance was 688 metres (2007) and 1084 metres (2006). Darell was also over-subsribed but they took additional children last few years.

CoV - I'm hoping QC will arrange a mini meet-up this weekend. When do you want us around?

Kewcumber · 04/03/2008 09:54

KC rushes off to measure distance on a map...

Kewcumber · 04/03/2008 09:59

OOh ooh - I am 577m - we stand a chance! Am off to see Kew montessori nusery nest week for a part time place (they only have afternoons) from Sept. I suppose as a last resort it would have to do.

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 04/03/2008 10:07

Sushi - I can do Sat or Sunday about 3.30pm

OP posts:
SushiMummy · 04/03/2008 10:09

QC - hope you/DS will get a place. Is the Kew montessori in St Luke's? It's just around the corner from us.

SushiMummy · 04/03/2008 10:10

Thanks QC! I'm free both days but would prefer Sat if that's OK with you.

Kewcumber · 04/03/2008 10:13

Saturday suit me slightly better too, do you want to come for tea?

OP posts:
SushiMummy · 04/03/2008 10:23

Oh, yes please, QC!

mellow2 · 04/03/2008 10:24

QC,
Can I come too?

Sushi,
How did you get on the mailing list about cut off distances for catchment? Was it to every house on your street or did you ask to be kept informed?

Kewcumber · 04/03/2008 10:31

sure Mellow - what do sushi-kun and little mellow eat for tea - was going to do something easy like baked beans and cheese and toast?

OP posts:
mellow2 · 04/03/2008 10:32

That would be fine. DD loves baked bean and toast. Thanks QC.

SushiMummy · 04/03/2008 10:32

Mellow - my DH just sent an email to School Admissions Officer and got a reply (v swiftly). The catchment changes every year according to the number of pupils applying.

SushiMummy · 04/03/2008 10:34

DS likes Baked beans and cheese on toast, too!

mellow2 · 04/03/2008 10:35

Yikes.

Note to self: I must try to buy a house next to my preferred school.

Does anyone know anything about good primaries in Ealing and Hounslow?

Is Belmont in Chiswick a better school than say Fielding or North Ealing in Ealing?

Kewcumber · 04/03/2008 10:35

I must put his name down, it will save me forgetting in a year or two!
