GBK?
bunyan I think dd will like her bed/ bedroom but I have noticed she has more episodes of pretending to be a baby, guess it is all that strive for independence V run back to mummy thing
talk of bumps making me even more broody, there is the incentive to loose the weight, can't see it happening otherwise

Kewcumber · 04/03/2008 14:19

Well I hope this venture of mine is going to work out. I have just spent rather a lot of money buying tools/equipment online, but I guess if I am going to do a professional job I can't rely on my tatty old stuff.

Good job I don't have a particularly sweet tooth either otherwise the weight will pile on if I keep licking the bowl clean

Slng 40% is outrageous, no wonder you are seeing red!

slng · 04/03/2008 14:21

sfx - our nursery is run by preschool learning alliance. They are TERRIBLE. And don't even get me started on their accountant. But the staff is lovely ... And honestly I cannot take ds1 out and put him in another nursery for 6 months before he starts reception, so we are staying put (and seething). We'll decide where ds2 goes to when we know which school ds1 will be allocated. I think school is going to ruin our life ... no more carefree days ...

Must have my power nap now so I can cope with two whinging under-the-weather kids when they wake up.

slng · 04/03/2008 14:24

Kew - I don't know what sure start children's centres are either. They are supposed to be some big government initiative (in fact the one of the first questions I asked when we visited was whether the funding will be withdrawn soon which is exactly what is happening now but they said no no no) Anyway I read all the bumf about them and still have no clue - they like jargons these education wallahs.

Must really go and nap.

SushiMummy · 04/03/2008 14:25

slng - I know how you feel re schooling. It's such a PITA! And DS is only 2.5, fgs!

CoV - may I ask, are you not going back to your 'old' profession, then?

sfxmum · 04/03/2008 14:30

regarding schooling I think, again we will be going through yet more changes in the coming years but as ever those kids with parents ho care and actually take time educating them will do fine no matter what.

all that with more or less hassle from school and whatever system is the fad of the moment

rosmerta · 04/03/2008 14:33

Hi all, blimey at chats around beds, nurseries & schools!

Ds still in cot with sleeping bag & hadn't planned to change at all yet! Might try a duvet in the summer though.

Sfx & Sj, nice to see you both yesterday, ds wasn't too much trouble leaving thankfully & slept really well.

Not got anything planned for this afternoon, just some quiet time I think.

ComeOVeneer · 04/03/2008 14:33

No sushi. TBH the last year I worked (after having ds) I realised how much I hated my job. Its a pity as I worked damn hard for many years to qualify then put in 10 years of my life to it, but it was never the right career for me. I know very few people actually have a job they love, but I was verging on depression towards the end. The move down here finally allowed me to resign and once out of it, it was easier for me to admit I wasn't happy and not look for a new job. I'm of course extremely lucky that dh supports me in my decision (and that finacially we are able to do it).

Also this new venture will take away any headaches of childcare as I can fit my hours around school etc no problem. I just need to get a load of different cakes made and photographed, then set up a website and get out to some wedding fairs etc and get it all up and running. I have basically until sept 09 when ds starts full time school to build it up slowly.

rosmerta · 04/03/2008 14:35

I'd be up for a GBK & cinema night, need a cheap night out!

ComeOVeneer · 04/03/2008 14:35

What is a GBK?

Kewcumber · 04/03/2008 14:51

just had a call from the school applications for primary in Richmond borough start in Autmn 2009 for Sept 2010.

My boss cancelled again! Only he got one of the HR support team to tell me this time.

Tosser! Well HR support person has just had to listen to me rant about his behaviour and is going to have a word.

Thing is tho, even they agree that he doesn't give a toss but if it's not reported then it won't stop. Trouble is tho, I will lose out further if I report this as all it will do is alienate me.

I don't think any of this is pre-meditated or calculated. It's just the way he works and his lack of regard for meetings and schedules is legendary. That, of course, doesn't make it ok but......

I also think that culturally/evironmentally he's not used to managing a team and much less women. Again I don't think he consciously discriminates but his behaviours are discriminating to me.

If I take it up with HR it will simply be a world of pain for me tho.

slng · 04/03/2008 14:55

I've had my nap but no sign of children waking. So quiet! What should I do?

Kewcumber · 04/03/2008 15:01

slng - if you have some spare time on your hands - go thump Paddles boss.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 04/03/2008 15:06

I am sorry paddle hard to know what to say as all organisations have a different culture.
maybe tell him it is not productive to just cancel meetings and further it makes you feel undervalued

slng · 04/03/2008 15:10
SushiMummy · 04/03/2008 15:42

CoV - oh, I had no idea. Well, your new business idea sounds more fun so good luck.

Paddle - not again! If I were HR, I'd send him to some training course. for you.

QC - you can relax till Autumn 2009, then. What are you doing in Steiner's section?

Kewcumber · 04/03/2008 15:45

I'm laughing my arse off Sushi it's like wandering into some kind of parallel universe

OP posts:
SushiMummy · 04/03/2008 15:50

Phew, I thought you were serious about sending DS to one of those. Scary world, indeed.

mellow2 · 04/03/2008 16:50

slng,
Sure Start is a new name for the section in the Dept for Education and Skills that looks after pre-schoolers. Your nursery probably is funded by Sure Start. It sounds like the government is cutting back on Sure Start funding.

We're part of a toy library that is funded by Sure Start. I sure hope they don't close down. But that is outrageous, increasing the fees almost by half.

slng · 04/03/2008 16:53

I periodically look at these "special" education stuff thinking that there must be something better than the conventional system but usually it's quite impenetrable ... I think I'll just work within the system ...

Sushi - DS1 really likes the Japanese thomas the tank engine on youtube!

slng · 04/03/2008 16:55

Mellow - I don't know what's happening with sure start, because there are rumours that they are opening other children centres in the area! I think I'll just stay ignorant. Life seems to short to try to figure these things out.
