Hi all! had a few visitors the last week. my little sister who has just finished her exams at uni came to stay and parents came over the weekend.Mum brought lots of food which was v nice.

Jello- my ds has a cot mobile that has a music and a light show which puts him to sleep.

However ds sleeps more during the day now but wakes up once or twice at night for a feed.

I'm up for meeting next week. Any pref where and when? Can't do weds morning.

brownmia · 29/05/2008 16:55

Hi - sorry for butting in, just a newbie to Mumsnet really, but thought I'd just check out if there was any action in sunny Enfield... I have a 2yo and another on the way v soon. I see mention of 'Stork Clubs' and various meet ups. Am always keen...

Mine · 29/05/2008 20:40

hi Brownmia, the more the merrier!!

I'm up for any day except thursday next week.

I'm not going to Stork Club.. they seem to be only for 6 month and under babies, even though they have kind of said its ok for those with older babies to attend.
they were a bit clicky too...!!

Sounds like everyone has been really busy lately.
We've been out and about, mostly with dh doing lots of days out etc. ds has been loving it.

Vicky31 · 30/05/2008 11:43

Hi Brownmia, welcome to our little chat When's your next one due?

We've been having a crazy week. My father in law had a stroke Monday night and unfortunately died yesterday morning. Today we're going with my mil to the undertakers about the funeral. Luc is being very smiley though and making everyone feel better.

I'll try to make a meet up next week - just let me know where and when.

Vicky31 · 30/05/2008 12:55

Can I be the first to admit that I find my husband's help with Luc more of a hindrance. Obviously he's been home alot this week and I can't moan at him at the moment, so I've just had to pop back onto my computer to have a quick rant to get it off my chest.

When he's not here I look forward to weekends and having some help, but when he is here I realise that it's easier when I'm by myself. When he has Luc he doesn't stick to any of the timings for feeding and sleeping and so Luc spends most of the time crying. Dh then thinks we have a whingey baby when actually he's lovely when he's in a good routine.

Am I alone?

Mine · 30/05/2008 15:54

Vicky - very sorry about your FIL. How is your DH coping???

I'm defo with you on the DH's getting in the way sometimes. My DH does it completely unintentionally...... he just forgets to do things that i have told him are part of the routine/schedule like nap Eren every 2 hours without fail otherwise we WILL suffer!

I now find it easier just to put a disney movie on an sit them both in front of the TV and get on with things!

brownmia · 30/05/2008 18:56

Thanks guys. Vicky sorry to hear about your FIL. I have now seen the site for the Stork Club, hadn't realised it was for first time mums of young babies - I guess that counts me out. Although even after 2 years, which isn't long AT ALL I seem to have a mental block and can't remember much about newborns, childbirth, what to pack for hospital etc etc - must have blanked it all out - am due next week so will keep checking back. Maybe out of action for a bit but as I live so close to town always keen for a stroll in and a coffee (and a cake)...

Mine · 30/05/2008 21:42

NEXT WEEK!
How are you feeling??
Do you know what you're having??
am excited for you.... but not excited enough to think of DC 2 of my own!

Jello39 · 30/05/2008 21:52

Hi all,
Vicky sorry to here about your FIL. hope you are coping ok.

busy week just gone. Aaron now weighs 8lbs 4oz, so dinky still. popped into work as mgr wanted to know if/when comung back. defo going back, need the money, they are ok with me working from home so hope todo that til next year.

Vicky - i do agree with you on DH. although ds still young still have a loose routine particularly now for the evening but he ignores it even though I try to remind him nicely.

Mine - went along to Town Park on Wed. 5 of us in total. It was a lot easier to talk to them in that setting but as you said they have been together for a while.

I can do any day next week except wed.

Mine · 01/06/2008 17:19

anyone free for a starbucks on thursday or friday...??

Vicky31 · 01/06/2008 19:31

That should be ok with me. Either day.

Mine · 01/06/2008 19:43

i'm bored.... what have you been up to vicky????

Jello39 · 02/06/2008 13:51

Hi all,

pretty uneventful weekend. rather boring in fact. Took Aaron to church with me on Sunday. i go Xmas's and Easter, everyone loved him. Fell asleep through the sermon as I was tired and it was rather boring.

I can do Friday this week. MIL visit on Thursday.

FG1 · 02/06/2008 15:27

Hi all! Hi Brownmia! Good luck n hope all goes well. I live close to Enfield town too!

Vicky - sorry to hear about your FIL. Hope you are all coping o.k.

My dh works away during the week so like your dh vicky, he helps a lot at the weekend but doesn't stick to a routine and by Monday I feel more tired. Infact I feel tired all the time - either I'm anaemic or this is what all mums feel!

Went to Oxford for a 1st b'day party on sat. Weather was great and ds loved the fresh air. He slept for ages in a hammock in the garden. I must get one!

I can make Friday too.

Harri1 · 02/06/2008 18:49

Hello all,
Sorry to hear about fil vicki hope you are all doing ok x

Can meet up thurs or fri be good to see you all.
Welcome brownmia and hope birth 2 goes well.

Had a day at work today mil looked after erin and had my first night away from her on sat- wedding in surrey again mil looking after her, she was fine but it was really hard, nice to have the break but soooooooo lovely to come back to her smiles

xx

Mine · 02/06/2008 20:14

friday it is then.
Brownmia... hopefully (for us!) you wouldn't have given birth by then.
Starbucks in palmers green or somewhere else...??

Harri - glad you enjoyed your time away. I've not plucked up the courage to leave ds for the night.. but i thinks more for the fact that we've not yet had the opportunity!

We went to get eren weighted at the clinic today.... i mentioned to the hv that his milk intake has halved for the last few weeks, and she said that milk wasn;t so important anymore.... solids are what we need to focus on, which confused me as i thought milkk was supposed to be their main source of nutrition until they were 1......hmmm...

Vicky31 · 03/06/2008 09:47

Hi all

Mine - Luc has really gone off his solids the last couple of weeks. I think he is teething but he is also really windy (and smelly) and gets really distressed. I had started giving him lunch as well as breakfast and tea but I think I might go back a step for a week or so. Have you had any problems with Eren taking solids?

Also I wanted to ask you about finger foods. I gave Luc a toast crust to munch on this morning which he really loved, but I was so worried about him choking and held it so that he could only get a small piece in his mouth at a time. How did you start wtih things like that and what finger foods do you give Eren?

What a horrible day today. I have a feeling it's going to be a long boring one. I might go for a mooch round M&S later but I'll have to leave my purse at home - these sanity trips out of the house can get expensive.

I'm taking Luc to Musical Minis on Friday. It's at Grundy park leisure centre in Cheshunt so just a short walk away. Not sure what to expect but I'd like to start doing more with him.

Vicky31 · 03/06/2008 09:56

Ooh, forgot to say, I enrolled to start an open university degree in January - an MA in philsophy. I'm gonna get my brain back! I studied with the OU before so have an idea of what to expect and I think I'll be able to cope with it and Luc. I just feel that, as I'm not going back to work, I need something else going on in my life that's not baby related.

Harri - glad you got on ok out in the real world. We got a travel cot at the weekend so I can feel a night away from bambino coming on soon

Mine · 03/06/2008 14:27

vicky i envy you for signing up for OU.. wish i could do something like that but u have togo back to work

re finger foods.... i started with slices of toast too. Eren still gags when he takes a chunk out of whatever food i have given him (sometimes even throws up!). Not a lot you can do about that. In fact its all part of them learning to eat and control foods for themselves. He definitely makes far more chewing motions with his mouth now and gags a lot less too. Practice makes perfect i hope.

I also give him apple, cucumber and carrot slices.. i tend to give these raw rather than steamed because i'm too lazy to steam them and also if they are soft he;ll gum chunks and gag on them more frequently!
He loves to suck on slices of steak, chicken etc.

He doesn't consume very much at all with finger food so i tend to give him spoon fed food to ensure he has something in his stomach.

My next task is to teach him to drink from a cup/beaker.... very messy indeed!

re M&S... i was in there yesterday. I only went to have a bit of a browse and came out with a bag full of stuff......NOT GOOD!

brownmia · 03/06/2008 18:58

Hi All - still feel like a bit of an imposter here as you all seem to know each other really well and have babes of around the same age! All the talk of finger foods etc brings it all back - god its SUCH a time consuming period but don't worry before you know it you can sling them onto the sofa with a babybel and a bowl of grapes and an episode of ITNG...

Am due on Thurs in fact, no idea re flavour, will be up at Chase Farm. But if you decide to meet in Enfield town let me know and if still in one piece will attempt to waddle in...

Oh yes, like the Erin & Eren names...

Vicky31 · 03/06/2008 19:15

Brownmia, it's good to have an expert among us - someone who's been there before and survived. I quite fancy the babybel, grapes and ITNG myself (I watched an episode the other day and became strangely addicted.

Mine, thanks for the advice - I'll know now not to hang Luc upsidedown and whack him if he gags a bit ;) I have a tommy tippy first cup. I got it a while ago and Luc took to it straight away, although quite a bit goes down his chin. If I want an easy life I give him his water or juice in a bottle, but I'll often use the cup at mealtimes. A good thing about that one is that you can fold down the spout bit and keep it in your bag without it spilling (well, none so far).

I didn't go in M&S, went to the shops across the road at Brookfield farm instead. Bought some hair dye, as I fancy a change, and some fathers day cards.

Anything on Friday is fine with me. Just glad to get out of the house.

FG1 · 03/06/2008 21:31

Hi guys! When did you start weaning? Ds is 5 months now - not sure if i should wait till 6 months. Is sucking fingers and hands a lot a sign that he is hungry or teething?

Vicky your course sounds good. I thought about maybe taking a course in stm that i could use as an alternative career e.g acupuncture but it actually takes 2-3 years so its easier just to go back to work and see if I can change my hours.

I took my ds to work today and it was really nice to see everyone but there have been a lot of changes and my role has changed. i'm not going to worry about it now though.

I don't mind meeting in enfield town or palmers green...is 11am o.k?

Jello39 · 04/06/2008 12:47

Hi All,

gong quite well this week. Aaron has started to sleep up to 4 hrs during the night which is great.

DH is at home this week on leave. I thought wow it would be great that he can help out then but he is treating it like it is totally a holiday for him. He spends most of his day on his websites. Should be able to make Friday to see you all again.

Vicky31 · 04/06/2008 15:34

Jello, tell me about it, this was how my ds treated weekends and holidays in the beginning - everything the same as any other day for me and a lovely break for him. It took a few tears and tantrums from me but he saw the light in the end. I think they just don't realise how selfish they're being. Good luck.

Friday is beginning to look a bit dodgy for me as ds has relatives flying in from all over for teh funeral next week. Fix a time though and hopefully I'll make it.

FG1 -finger sucking could well be teething. I started Luc on food when he started showing a real interest in what we were eating. I had dried on baby breakfast on the side of my face this morning. Luckily I realised before I went out.

Harri1 · 04/06/2008 19:22
