Luc is still loving his purees and seems to manage slightly thicker stuff with the odd little lump (my pureeing skills aren't the best). Today I bought him some Cow & Gate fruit pots. It's just different mixtures of pure fruit and saves some time in the kitchen doing it myself. Maybe Eren is ready for something a bit more adventurous. Whatabout that tiny pasta you can buy stirred into a puree?

I got the picnic e-mail but was just too lazy to get over there today. A mooch round Homebase to get some paint tester pots was the thrilling hightlight of my day so far. Off to the pub quiz tonight with my friends and looking forward to some nice pub grub.

I hope this lovely weather lasts for my holiday next week

Mine · 14/05/2008 20:14

i didn;t make it either, i just couldn't motivate myself to leave the house today!
DH was home until 4pm before he wen;t to work. His xbox died and he is completely lost, so he decided to get under my feet (v. annoying).

Eren fed better today..... he had porridge with strawberries and blueberries, lunch was rice pudding with pureed fruit then 2 bottles before bed.... i always seem to have trouble giving him 'dinner'... need to work on that.

Harri... whats new with you and Erin???

FG1 · 15/05/2008 10:41

Hi!
Vicky- Rhyme time is at 2pm to 2:30pm today. Sorry didn't reply earlier, we were out whole day yesterday and very tired when we got back. Ds slept 10hours last night!!! I think its a one of though!

Jello- nasal drops work but sometimes i just put drops of water and it liquifiys the mucus. A few drops of olbas oil on some cotton wool in the cot might help when Aaron is sleeping. Also steam inhalation or going into a steamy bathroom after someones had a shower will help.

Harri1 · 15/05/2008 10:51

Hi all, we are still here just been out and aboot so much enjoying the sunshine.
Bought some blackout blinds today to see if that will help with the 5am waking- don't know how to trim them though!!!!! need an idiots guide to blind fitting.

Erin is fine we have strted weaning too, she's loving her purees at the moment only lunch at mo but moving on to breakfast too next week.

Mine- glad eren is eating better now.

Meet up soon ladies?
xx

Vicky31 · 16/05/2008 18:46

Hey ladies
Have you all had nice weeks? I went to Bluewater today (with the best kind of shopping companion, a gay man) and had a really nice time. My mum had Luc. Didn't buy too much but it was nice to mooch around.

Sorry Fatima I didnt' make rhyme time. Did you go? Did your smiley boy enjoy it? I've booked Luc in for Musical Minis from June so that'll be something else to do with him.

I'm off on my holiday on Monday and am flabberghasted when I think of how much baby stuff I'm going to have to take. I've always been the lightest of the light packers. I'd better make a list. I'm thinking of buying some of those disposable ready sterilised bottles. Has anyone tried them? Any packing tips?
x

Mine · 16/05/2008 21:27

Vicky as you're probably the first of us to go on holiday with a baby i think we;ll be looking to you for top tips!
Have a wonderful time!!

Eren rolled off our bed this afternoon... i took my eyes off him for 1 minute and he double rolled and ended up falling approx 2ft on to the floor. I'm not sure who cried the most.. me or him.
I feel so guilty even though it was an accident.
He developed a small bump on his head and a very red sore ear. Luckily the GP agreed to see him straight away and cleared him of any concussion, and most importantly i guess he didn;t break anything.
The hardest thing was calling to tell dh what happened!

I know he;ll knock, fall and bump himself a million times as he;s growing but i truely freaked out as it had never happened before.
I must buy a pair of eyes to stick to the back of my head!!!

It seems stork club will be back on wednesday. I'll try and make it if anyone else is going too.
x

Vicky31 · 17/05/2008 10:18

Mine, I'm sure you feel awful but these things will happen to all of us at times. A few months ago I cut Luc's finger while cutting his nails and felt like a complete monster mother. I know what you mean too about how hard it is to tell dh what's happened. The main thing is that Eren is ok and now you know that he can roll so far you can be better prepared. Luc managed to get himself completely upside down in his cot last night. These babies certainly can wriggle.

We're going for a new approach in trying to get Luc to sleep. We've always cuddled and rocked him to sleep at nap and bedtime as in the early days it was easiest, although I knew it would backfire in the end.
He hasn't been too bad waking at night until the last week or so, when he just keeps waking up all the time and needs major attention to get him back to sleep several times a night. So, we're going for a bit of tough love and leaving him to cry for a while and learn to settle himself. I hate it but it seems to be working so far. Probably not the best time to do this as he'll be in a strange cot this week, but we honestly couldn't stand any more.

FG1 · 17/05/2008 20:39

Mine- glad that Eren is o.k. I am always so scared that something like that might happen esp if I pick Ali up awkwardly or when going down the stairs but I think babies are tougher then we think. I was always bumping into things and falling over when little and I've turned out o.k. more or less!!!!!

Vicky - have a great time. I was just saying to dh how I would love to go away.

Better go before dinner gets burnt!

Jello39 · 18/05/2008 00:46

Mine,

sure Eren will be o.k. I accidently bumped Aaron's head going through the doorway last week. It was only slight but I was so upset even though he did not cry. Maybe time for me to check my glasses.

I'm hoping we will make Stork Club this week though he still has the ends of his cold.

Harri1 · 18/05/2008 10:48

Mine- poor you but don't worry he's obvs fine. We'll all do things like that- ditto vicki i cut erins thumb when trimming her nails, she didn't fuss though I think its worse for us than them. Plenty more bumps to come in the next few months I'm sure
xx

Mine · 20/05/2008 21:47

its been a bit quiet in enfield.......
Whats everyone been up to??

Harri did you manage to put your blackout blinds up yet..??
If you recommend them i was thinking of getting some.
I can;t take the 5am wake up calls anymore.

Jello39 · 21/05/2008 10:33

Hi, all

Aaron just about recovered from cold. feeeling v. tired today. He no longer sleeps for any length of time during day and only 4 hrs approx at night. napping as he is bf. good news - getting quite a few smiles from him which are so lovely.

saw mil and dh's family at weekend. They all love him to bits. mil has a dog and she is a bit highly strung. I prefer to keep her away from Aaron as if he starts to cry she gets v. agitated even thouh mil insists she wouldn't bit him. sorry not taking any chances with my baby!!

dh remembered kettle after 6 weeks of baby so we went shopping on Sunday for new one, now have a Breville Cafe series kettle which can make buckets of tea & coffee. have to confess it does look much nicer than the one I bought.

Anyone going to the Stork Club today ?

Mine · 21/05/2008 11:22

hope the sleep thing gets better Jello. It sounds exhausting.
I too wouldn;t trust a dog near my baby, but dh is a bit more relaxed.... he is a dog lover and i am not!

I'm going to the stork club later... will i see you there jello...??
Hope so.

I wonder if Vicky is having a nice holiday....

Harri1 · 21/05/2008 16:31

hi all
sorry 1 handed typing so no capital letters!
been busy so haven't been on for a while.
had a nightmare with delivery of blinds but havre them now and will be up at weekend so will let you know- got them at tesco 10 and 14 each instead of 30 an 39 pounds each at john lewis.
When are we meeting up again ladies? need some adult conersation and need to meet aaron!!!
hop u enjoyes stork club xxx

Mine · 21/05/2008 19:49

hope the blinds help harri... let us know if it makes a difference. I have resorted to using fabric until we can get ours fitted... when dh sorts it out!!
I'm up for a catch up.
Went to stork club today. It was really nice, Eren enjoyed it.
It was really obvious the mums that were there have been going very regularly and know each other pretty well, so i felt a bit like the 'newbie'.. until Jello turned up! Hurrah!

Jello - did soraya help with the sleeping tips..?
She was lovely, much more helpful than hv at the clinic but i guess she had 2 hours free instead of 5mins!

I'm defo going back next week.

We are all full of cold at home, the little mite started it now both dh and i have it, but its just a head cold... for now.. sniffle sniffle .

Jello39 · 22/05/2008 11:55

hi,
good to see you at Stork Club Mine - nice to know someone else. I do chat to them but as you said they have been going regularly so know each other really well.

got some sleep tips and will try them out. Might be nice for all to meet up again next week. not sure what weather will be like so park or Starbucks maybe.

Vicky31 · 26/05/2008 09:03

Hi ladies, hope you and your little ones have all been ok. What horrible bank holiday weather. Luc has just gone for his nap so I'm going back to bed to hibernate for a bit soon.

Centreparcs was good. We didn't do an awful lot but what I liked best was that absolutely everyone else had a baby, so going out for meals was quite relaxed as it wasn't a major issue if your baby cried and you didn't look like an idiot if you had to play peekaboo all through your meal.

My top packing tip for holidays where you'll be living in close quarters - earplugs for mornings when your dh gets up to feed the baby and give you a lie in. I don't know what my dh does but Luc cries and screams so much that I can't relax and sleep so my lie in is wasted. We didn't have too much luggage in the end but I definitely needed my checklist of all the baby stuff. I started writing it a good week beforehand so that I had time to add all the things I could think of.

Anyway, my bed beckons. Hope to see you all in the week.

Mine · 26/05/2008 16:56

Yay Vicky you're back!!!

Glad you enjoyed the holiday. I have noted the list.. although i did make one ages ago but have 'misplaced it' .. i will have to start again.

What kind of stuff did you get up to...??
Did Luc have his own cot to sleep in??
Did you have to make you're own purees whilst there of did you do the BLW thing..??

Soo many questions!

I'm thinking of taking my hand held blender with me as i'm not happy with just doing BLW whilst on hioliday... Eren never consumes very much with sticks of food, although he loves to try and feed himself, its not enough to keep him full so i'll be forever trying to feed him. i thought it might be best to take food from the restaurant and mush it down for him..... DH thinks i'm mad but i'm the one that will be left to cope with a constantly hungry baby if i don;t come up with a plan B IYKWIM......
Am i being a bit OTT.....??
Tell me the truth!

Vicky31 · 27/05/2008 19:05

Hi Mine
I'm probably being very dim, but I've racked my brains and I really don't know what BLW stands for

Anyway, I'm going to stand up and admit this to you other mums - I took jars of shop bought food on holiday. I really couldn't think of any other way to do it and when I went into Tescos and read the ingredients it was all just stuff I'd put in myself (I bought Hipp organic and Luc seems to like them all apart from the cauliflower cheese which makes him pull a face). It's great for travelling because you don't have to refrigerate them if they're unopened. I still make food for Luc but I'm definitely a convert to having some jars in the house to make life easier. I think buying ready prepared baby food is a bit stigmatized nowadays (a bit like choosing not to breastfeed), but there really is more to life than pureeing, especially on holiday.

Luc did have his own cot to sleep in, and a highchair too. The cot was quite small compared to the cotbed he has at home so he couldn't do his usual acrobatics around it (he's turned himself completely upsidedown a couple of times).

We didnt' do an awful lot - best to take babysitters next time I think. But we went swimming, walked a lot and had some nice peaceful lunches while Luc was asleep in his pushchair. I also had an afternoon in the spa while dh looked after Luc.

Luc's sleeping has really improved. I think I told you before I went away that we had decided to let him cry a bit and try to settle himself. Well, it only really took one night of that and he now can go into his cot awake and settle himself and also if he wakes up in the night, which he could never do before. So I'm getting mostly undisturbed nights which is fantastic. Long may it last.

How is everyone doing with the blackouts?

Mine · 27/05/2008 19:19

i thought about taking jarred food, but i would need to fill the suitcase with it and nothing else to last 2 weeks!
Plus we can only take 2 suitcases between the 3 of us... considering Eren has more stuff than me (mainly nappies) i'm having to think of how else i can make sure he eats something.

I've thought about it and as crazy as it sounds i will take the hand blender with me just in case.

Sounds like a very relaxing holiday Vicky. Great news Luc is sleeping like an angel now!!

ps BLW is the finger food method of feeding our little devils angels. Its Baby Led Weaning. That too creates a whole world of controversy on mn !! Some people are so militant abt weaning.

Vicky31 · 27/05/2008 22:39

Hmmm, I'd forgotten that you'd have to pack to go on a flight. In that case the hand blender sounds like a good option. I don't see anything wrong with taking a bit of restaurant food. Why not? The packing sounds like a nightmare. I think it's a good thing that we won't be able to afford to go abroad much in the next few years.

BLW sounds very hippyish. Is that for people who carry their baby around in a sling and breastfeed for the first three years I shall have to read some of the militant postings. People sure can get hot under the collar when it comes to the 'right' way to bring up baby.

Mine · 27/05/2008 23:03

i was walking around the Asda Living store today and saw a lady breastfeeding her baby whilst walking around the store!!

I'm all for women being able to bf in public but i think this takes it to a WHOLE new level !!
Good on her for being so brave, but walking around asda with a baby hanging on your boob (for everyone to see) was a bit much.

You should have seem my mums face!!

Anyway... how is everyone??
Jello - is the sleep thing working?? I'm a bit ticked off with stork club.. we don;t even 'qualify' to attend any more, but thats a whole other hilarious issue.

Harri/FG.. are you guys still out there??

Anyone fancy meeting up next week..??

Harri1 · 28/05/2008 09:52

Hi all, we've been away for the weekend up t northampton visiting friends and mil doing lots of baby sitting yay.
Sounds like you had a good break vicki.
Blinds went up yesterday mine and she slept til 6.30 this am so fingers crossed.
I am loving weaning and she is enjoying it so much but I'm thinking of taking jars on holiday, theres a website called tots away where you can order food, nappies etc to be delivered to your holidayb destination might be worth a look- probably costs a bit more but saves carrying it all!

Am up for a meet next week can't do monday or tuesday- Back to work for the day on Monday a teacher training day that I've been invited to, can I BEAR TO LEAVE HER!!!!
Well let us know about next week
xx

Jello39 · 28/05/2008 12:30

Hi All,

eaning sounds like great fun, I guess I still have a few months to go.

Vicki - glad you had a nice break away, home or away its always nice to relax away from the norm. you'll have to give us your packing list. Hoping we can have a little break in the Autumn.

Mine - going for a walk in the evening plus earlier bath seems to be helping plus all the other things. I seem to have this long list of things to be done to get him to sleep, so I'm tired myself by the time he sleeps. Still have to bf him to sleep. It will be nice when he can eventually fall asleep on ghis own.
Stork Club - changes every minute she now seems to be saying that those who were joined up already can now keep going up tp 9 mths. get the full sp next week I guess.

Can do a meet next week hopefully. I am due to see an old friend but waiting to find out which day she can do.
