ooh the excitement of starting a new thread Grin

Sfx - I like your line up, v.easy on the eye Grin

I'm going to make the effort to watch Torchwood tonight as DH out, did anyone see it last week? Any good?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 20/07/2011 13:18

kewC I think dd needs absolute beginner, she was doing great until about the age of 3-4 then developed a terror, now she seems to have lost the anxiety in water but is not really swimming at all. dh insists she does not need lessons of any kind and that our sporadic visits to the pool will somehow do itHmm

anyway I will be ignoring this and booking something this Summer, don't want it to become 'a thing'

vbus watched Torchwood which was ok let us see how it develops. I did some catch up on 4OD caught 'the government inspector' I liked it, then The Promise, a bit ham fisted

one more sleep to HP Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/07/2011 13:29

Here you are!

sfx - we are doing your DH's approach. After about 2 years DS1 is more or less in the position of being probably ready to learn to swim properly. He can put his head in the water and propel himself forward somehow. DS2 periodically puts his face near the water. As long as they get to nearly ready to learn to swim before Y3 (when they start school swimming) I think we'll be OK. Grin And DS1 absolutely refuses to have lessons. Thinks we can do it on our own. Don't know where he gets that kind of attitude from. HmmGrin

No torchwood for me. Too scary.

sfxmum · 20/07/2011 13:35

dd will dive and often likes going under the water but will not really propel herself forward
I am not really waiting for school lessons as by then everyone else will be very competent at swimming and she might feel left out

vbus · 20/07/2011 13:43

DS1 used to be freaked out by going in the water, me taking him swimming helped but then I stopped taking him when DS2 was born Sad. That following summer he went in MIL's pool on holiday and I was quite shocked that he seemed to have gone backwards in confidence and ability so I was determined to get him some lessons. He has since massively improved (half way through level 2 which is really good for him), he does seem to be making progress and is enjoying it which is the main thing.

I can scarcely wait for HP Grin

KewC so what house is DS in? very amused but dd is super excited
she expects to start Quidditch next term Grin

anyway 3 children here until a bit late wish me luck

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/07/2011 19:25

Kids in bed reading. Silence. Bliss. Until I tell them to stop reading and go to sleep, that is.

tillyfernackerpants · 20/07/2011 20:31

Copper/Kew, can you do w/c 8 Aug for HP? Am sure it will still be on then, just about Grin

vbus · 20/07/2011 21:28

watched 1st Torchwood, quite slow, yet to watch the next one. Hope I don't get nightmares now Hmm

Sfx - quidditch? We have an Olympic theme for next year, DS1 class name is ridiculous but he seems very excited about it

OP posts:
sfxmum · 20/07/2011 21:43

vbus next one is tomorrow night, so will be iplaying it
the school decided to divide the children into 4 houses across the years and they are supposed to contribute points to the house competition. she was explaining to me it is like the Up Steps they get in class for assorted achievements which in turn earn them small privileges
All are named after mythical creatures and she is super delighted with hers, very funny

Kewcumber · 20/07/2011 22:36

DS (as you may remember) was totally terrifed of the water, couldn;t even put him in a bath so it was always going to be important for him to get over that and it did take the best part of slogging to the pool for 18 months without fail a minimum of once a week - sometimes for 10 mins as he was so scared. But I ever missed a week he regressed by months. SO I stuck it out and by about 3yrs he suddenly seemed to click and relaxed then when he was almost swimming I stuck him in lessons for a bit and he progressed again. But I have given him a bit of a break as he's so far ahead of most of his age group that he ends up in with the 7 yr olds which he doesn;t enjoy much. Luckily the crash lessons next week are so underbooked that he is the only one at level 4! So a private lesson for the price of a group one Grin and he knows the teacher who is lovely.

No idea what house he is in - I asked yesterday and he denied he was told but perhaps they were told today?

August 8th may be fine I'll check my diary tomorrow (too lazy to go downstairs now!)

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/07/2011 10:02

tilly/Kew - Oh no! Can't do 8 August week ...

vbus · 21/07/2011 11:32

Hello

KC - bonus getting private lessons!

Sfx- I see. We had something similar at my school but they don't do that at DS school. I can see that I'm going to struggle to keep up with Torchwood, for some reason I thought it was only going to be 2 episodes!

Copper/KC/Steppie/anyone else - are you coming to Kew Gardens meet on 5th?

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 21/07/2011 15:01

What time on 5th DS has swimming lesson at 11am so lunch time/afternoon would be OK. If so start a new thread as I know there are a couple of lurkers which 5/6 yr old children wh would like to meet.

sfxmum · 22/07/2011 10:07

hello

thanks to Kora&Vbus for a lovely night, and victory was ours Grin
I love it that they make no concessions for those who did not follow the series

Last day of term yeah - pizza later it seems

waiting on delivery Ikea said they would be here before 12, they better be as I want to sort out dd's desk before school pick up

hope everyone is well and enjoying the sun

Kora · 22/07/2011 10:46

Swimming lessons are great. I almost hugged DD1's swimming instructor (she was terrified of water, now much happier after two-to-one lessons) I was so grateful for her progress. He looked a bit scared, poor young man Grin

Thank you Sfx and Vbus too! Really loved seeing you and HP was fab. Smile So glad saw it in the cinema, so many others have just been on DVD, and it was definitely made for big screen. Quite touching to be there with all the teenagers who had grown up with the story and they all cheered at the end!

Working from home today, but taking it a bit easy. It is sunny after all...

sfxmum · 22/07/2011 10:49

Kora not only the cheering at the end but also the insistence on silence and audible enthusiasm. the little boy next to me nearly leapt out of his seat with excitement a couple of times Grin

enjoy shirking working from home

delivery nearly here, apparently

islandhaze · 22/07/2011 12:56

Hello!
I am new here to Kew, but if you girls dont mind, would like to join you on the 5th in Kew Gardens. I have two girls 6 and 2 :)

vbus · 22/07/2011 13:01

Thanks Kora and Sfx for a fun night, HP was brilliant Smile (Tilly/Copper/Kew you're in for a treat!) I've watched all of the HP films at the cinema, I'm quite sad it's the end

We have end of term school picnic at bushy park today, so glad the weather has improved in time

Kew - will start thread if you think others want to come along too. I'll probably have to leave around 2pm as I'll need to do some packing, will play it by ear

OP posts:
vbus · 22/07/2011 13:03

Hello Islandhaze Smile I'm in Teddington with 2 boys aged 5&2. You're very welcome to join us at Kew Gardens (weather permitting!) Have you been in the area long?

OP posts:
vbus · 22/07/2011 13:41

add your name to kew thread if you want to come along

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 22/07/2011 16:05

Copper/Kew, what are we going to do about HP as so far we can't all do a date together! Waterstones are showing it Aug 28 at 8.30pm, is that any good for either of you??

tillyfernackerpants · 22/07/2011 16:06

Sfx, meant to say, Fountain are fully booked for lessons already Shock I've booked ds1 into lessons at Richmond instead

sfxmum · 22/07/2011 17:25

islandhaze · 22/07/2011 17:46

We are very new here in Kew, and in London as well. We just moved from Denmark, and trying to understand everything here :) I found a lot of information online about summer camps and activities, but its hard to choose - so much of everything!!! And also trying to figure out what DD and etc means Blush
