Just in case anyone hasn't found out yet - especially as the GCC website has fallen over - all Glasgow schools are shut today.

ssd · 06/12/2010 16:11

can anyone tell me how to find out if the schools in east ren are open/closed tomorrow?

midnightexpress · 06/12/2010 16:15

South Lanarkshire have closed them all for tomorrow.

CommanderDrool · 06/12/2010 16:17

look on BBC Scotland. It has a list. GCC is opening tomorrow.

ssd · 06/12/2010 18:16

I looked on bbc scotland but I couldn't find a link, do you have one?

midnightexpress · 06/12/2010 18:19

Here is the BBC link but not much info on East Ren, I'm afraid.

iknowanoldlady · 06/12/2010 19:08

ssd, i work in an east ren school and we don't know any more than the website says - I plan to check the website in the morning at half seven and see what it says. I am kind of hoping they will leave it another day, I know friends and colleagues who are still not home after the 2pm finish - think the roads tomorrow could be disastrous, and the forecast is for fog too...

FalachFead · 06/12/2010 20:49

Sgoil Ghaidhlig Ghlaschu is shut tomorrow. It's on the Council website, all other Glasgow Schools are open as usual, except for ESN Schools which are also shut.

AgentProvocateur · 06/12/2010 20:51

All east Dunbartonshire schools shut tomorrow too.

AitchTwoOh · 06/12/2010 21:15

good, that's a relief.

ssd · 06/12/2010 23:03

thanks

FalachFead · 07/12/2010 10:53

Was listening to the Radio this morning and heard that some pupils and teachers had to spend the night in the Gaidhlig School. Could very easily have been ours. Our transport didn't even try to go for our kids. He has 15 in this area. They did well, bedding from the Hilton and food from local eateries. Very glad ours made it home..

prettybirdinapeartree · 07/12/2010 11:02

The Glasgow City Council web site fell over again this morning - just as well their twitter page was updated, saying all the schools were shut.

Cars are struggling to go along our road - even though it is a wide road, totally on the flat (hence a low priority for being gritted)...although to be honest, those that are struggling are the numpties ones that don't know you need to be in a high gear and low revs.

KristinaM · 07/12/2010 13:43

Our neighbour is a teacher in n lanarkshire and she got stranded driving home from school. Spent all night in a hotel foyer in bellshill

Our kids nearly had to spend night with a family who stay beside school as we couldn't get to collect them.

The poor kids who had to sleep at the gaelicschool! No correction, the poor parents. I bet the kids thought it was a great adventure!

prettybirdinapeartree · 07/12/2010 15:12

I have a highly placed source that police advice is the Glasgow schools should stay closed tomorrow.

prettybirdinapeartree · 07/12/2010 15:43

It's now official: on the GCC Twitter site.

AgentProvocateur · 07/12/2010 15:52

East Dunbartonshire schools all closed tomorrow (Wed) again.

prettybirdinapeartree · 07/12/2010 16:13

Suspect it will be on the same police safety advice.

sammac · 07/12/2010 21:23

The Radio Clyde website is very good at keeping up with the latest news

All Glasgow schools closed to pupils but staff to make their way in or to nearest GCC school

sammac · 07/12/2010 21:25

hopefully herewww.clyde1.co.article.asp

prettybirdinapeartree · 07/12/2010 22:06

Long time no hear/seeread sammac! Smile How are you?

sammac · 08/12/2010 11:34

Hi PB, been keeping a low profile here, with a lot more reading than writing! I think RL has encroached- too much taxi-ing around of children, caring for family- leaves even less room for myself. Hows you?

prettybirdinapeartree · 08/12/2010 12:42

Having similar problems to you parent-wise, IIRC: mum has deteriorated badly and is now in a home with a rare form of rapid onset dementia which leaves both her long and short term memories intact but has stolen her character :(

ssd · 08/12/2010 12:46

hi girls, can I join in? sorry to hear your mum is now in a care home, pb, my mum is 83 and needs to go into care but is in total denial, very very frustrating. can I ask, did she get a referral from her doctor, or was is thru the council? ans sammac, I remember you from long ago, I know you have a mum same age as mine, its all so hard dealing with frail parents and busy kids, isn't it Sad

prettybirdinapeartree · 08/12/2010 13:00

My mum is only 70 :( - and until her accident 4 years ago, extremely fit and active. She'd made an initial recovery, with hindsight,of probably 70-80% but about a year ago began deteriorating again. It's too much of a coincidence that the dementia is hitting the same part of the brain that was damaged :( She was already "in the system" and dad had been very active about trying ot get support, so when dad decided he could no longer cope, it was up to Social Services to arrange an emergency admission. The only problem was that becasue it was an "emergency" he had no choice about where she went so now has to trek daily to Clydebank to see her :(
