Just in case anyone hasn't found out yet - especially as the GCC website has fallen over - all Glasgow schools are shut today.

OP posts:
FalachFead · 02/12/2010 08:58

Aitch they're in C3 and C4.

AitchTwoOh · 02/12/2010 10:18

gosh, that must have been tough going when they were young, falach.
i've sent dd off on the bus, no news yet.

FalachFead · 02/12/2010 10:32

Do you know I was so sleep deprived I can hardly remember! Now it's fantastic.

Our transport is off till MONDAY! I may get my Dad to drive them tomorrow and DH to collect...

doggiesayswoof · 03/12/2010 12:40

I like your name falach!

Any of you SGG lot going to the Xmas fayre today? I might try and pop in for a bit (work not far away)

DD got back fine yesterday but this morning her bus had no heating - brrr.

AitchTwoOh · 03/12/2010 12:43

yes, i think i'll pop down, nearer to 3 probably. i will have a sledge and a 2-year-old...

FalachFead · 03/12/2010 14:08

Thanks Doggie! No, can't go to the fayre. Tis a blizzard here where I am. Transport was back on this morning, but I got the impression that they weren't happy about it. Now I'm wondering about home time..kids will be frozen solid because I don't think bus will come up street as usual..

AitchTwoOh · 03/12/2010 16:41

i went. it was GREAT, i thought. wish i'd gone earlier, the baking was brilliant.

and the big girls kept giving my wee girls free stuff! (although seeing as they were manning the macmillan cancer stall i felt obligated to give money in return. they're clever, these big girls. Grin)

doggiesayswoof · 03/12/2010 16:48

Didn't make it, got too busy at work.
Disappointed cos we got some fab Nollaig Chridheil (sp?) cards last year so was hoping to get some more.

DD's clas were getting to go down to it and she had some money to spend so I'll find out what she bagged when I get home - last year her best find was a moth-eaten scooby doo with a nodding head Grin

KristinaM · 06/12/2010 11:20

When are we going to find out about our schools? My kids are on the bus and I'm getting seriously worried about them getting home!

AitchTwoOh · 06/12/2010 12:31

snow's stopping here, by the looks of things.

weegiemum · 06/12/2010 12:39

Not here!

I got through to the school an it seems that some are going home but they don't know about others - depends on if the transport can come.

I have no way of getting mine home if there is no transport. I don't drive. I don't have enough money for taxis is this weather with the roads the way they are. My husband works over an hour away in the West Highlands and anyway he put our car in the ditch early this morning.

SO what are the school going to do? Break out the sleeping bags?

weegiemum · 06/12/2010 12:57

Ive given permission to put mine on the bus, so see them when I see them. We have a fabulous driver so I have no worries once he has got them!

SlummyMummyAndProud · 06/12/2010 13:06

They've just announced on the council twitter page that all schools will be closing at 2pm

AitchTwoOh · 06/12/2010 13:19

nah, it didn't stop here either, weegie.
can't get through to the school, and orange mobile mast must be damaged as no-one can get signal. if there are any SHOUTY gaelic texts could you post them up here, please? Wink

KristinaM · 06/12/2010 13:20

"All GCC schools and nurseries given permission to close from 2pm. Primary children will be looked after until they can be collected."

from twitter

FalachFead · 06/12/2010 14:07

My DH has collected my 2 and is currently on the M8. Nightmare. I made him get them early and he struggled to get there. Hope all yours get home safely.

prettybirdinapeartree · 06/12/2010 14:31

My dad has taken an hour to get from the roundabout under the M8 at Cowcaddens to not yet onto the Kingston Bridge Shock.

He's been on the road since 10am trying to get to the airport from Milngavie.

Fortunately my aunt's flight has been delayed from 1315 to 1555 - but they've still got a long Hmm way to go.......

seb1 · 06/12/2010 14:38

Renfrewshire schools closed at 1pm, I came home with eight Shock

prettybirdinapeartree · 06/12/2010 15:00

Dad is still not over the Kingston Bridge Shock

.... the plane leaves in 55 minutes......

AgentProvocateur · 06/12/2010 15:16

The airport was closed earlier. Is it open now?

KristinaM · 06/12/2010 15:50

i am snowed in with vomiting toddler. Dh is stuck at work. Kids were stuck at school but another mum has taken them home with her.

We are hoping that the roads will be cleared in a few hours and Dh can get out and collect kids.

work, school and home are all within 15 mins drive of each other. I dont knwo how everyone is coping who had a long journey ( or lovely friends / neighbours)

AFAIK there are no buses or trains

midnightexpress · 06/12/2010 15:56

Crikey, that was a bit of a dump wasn't it? Hope everyone gets where they need to be safely. I ended up fetching our two by sledge at lunchtime. On the way I met a man whose wife is a teacher out in Strathaven and she was stuck in her car behind...a snowplough that was stuck in the snow. Confused

prettybirdinapeartree · 06/12/2010 16:05

It reopened just after 2pm.

However, the flight has now been delayed until 8pm. :) Just as well, 'cos they only got to the airport after 3.30. That's ovr 5 and a hlaf hours to get from Milngavie to the airport! Shock My aunt was absolutely desparate for the loo! Grin (My dad had the advantage of being male........ Wink)
