Too lazy to scroll through the other long one.

Here for Obst und Blaetter - guess what d came home from school singing yesterday?

All welcome, Austria & Switzerland & any German-speaking Leute too

Finknottle are you back safe? This is the sort of afternoon to snuggle up in comfy clothes under blanket on sofa with a dvd and some chocolate. You know you can already get chocolate weihnachtsmänner - I got one last week and we smashed it with a rolling pin and ate it in front of the TV. Very therapeutic smashing the Weihnachtsman, I went on a shopping website and the banner said only 6 weeks to Christmas and I started feeling dizzy...I so understand those lucky folk who go to far off hot countries to avoid Christmas.

Anyway, no relaxing afternoon for me, I have to go to school for my 10 minute meeting and then I have to cook a mega meal a la Sunday dinner style because they have all complained about their food this week ( I didn't put much effort in I must admit) so I promised..!

admylin · 21/11/2008 12:51

You can't really see me on the wedding photo on my profile, far right corner. When I lived in the south of France I wanted to integrate and not speak English but everyone said you look really Scottish (freckles, strawberry blonde bordering on ginger) so you needn't bother trying to hide it!

MmeLindt · 21/11/2008 12:57

Just spoke to SIl (DH's sister), she said that she has heard that we might be coming to Germany over the Christmas holidays. No idea why she thinks that, she said that DH had told MIL.

MIL does not listen half the time so it is very likely that. There is NO WAY I am going anywhere for Xmas. Staying here, snuggling up in front of the log fire. No way am I driving 7 hours to the inlaws. If they are so desperate to see us, then they are welcome to come here.

It is getting stormy here now, looks like it could start snowing soon too.

DD is going horse riding for the first time this afternoon. It is indoors though, but is bound to be chilly. Will go and dig out my thermals

ErnestTheBavarian · 21/11/2008 13:13

I've got to go soon to collect ds from Kindergarten. It is unbelieveably wet. torn between risking bike & trailer again, just using trailer so ds can get in (but then setting precedent, for lazy kid who hates walking if he can ride), or pushchiar, so ds out in rain

TheGabster · 21/11/2008 13:44

Well, we have snow. And is settling.

Dog just begged to go out in it in garden, ran head down, nose in the snow, then came back in again. He gets very excited about snow bless him.

Re: dog care - if/when I get to go back to work it will be part time. Days I cant cope, he goes to work with DH and sits in car or under his desk (he walks him in fields next to office everyhour or so). DH also works from home one day a week so it generally works out OK. It is hard to get out some days because of him though (out anywhere useful I mean, rather than just into the woods for the sake of it).

Admylin - things sound exciting your end!

QO - I know a good ENGLISH hairdressed by Hauptbahnhof if you want it. 40eur but v.good and native speaker so safe!

DH has come home saying he may finish at Xmas??!!!!! But we can't move until March in any case. Life is so interesting.

thequietone · 21/11/2008 13:46

Oh my god, Gabster. I'm only in Eichenau, 1/2 hour drive from Starnberg. Reckon it's coming my way? I'd LOVE DS1 to wake up to snow falling. It's been terrible rain all morning and the sky looks permanently like dusk.

thequietone · 21/11/2008 13:47

Ooops, missed your hairdresser message, Gabster. Can you give it to me? MY heart feels all fluttery and nervous at the thought of a cut now!

MmeLindt · 21/11/2008 13:48

Gabster
Why can't you move until March?

I don't want snow. It can snow in the hills as much as it wants, not down here please

Shiner · 21/11/2008 14:03

According to the BBC website, snow will come to Munich at the weekend! Time to get the doormats out to put snow-covered/wet shoes on, and stop DC tramping it all into the flat...

thequietone · 21/11/2008 14:05

I sent DS1 out yesterday to collect the grit and spinkle on the steps.

thequietone · 21/11/2008 14:05

SPRINKLE. durrrrrr...(and DS2 kicking away on my lap)

finknottle · 21/11/2008 14:14

That was windy, had to get off the bike and walk. Picture of me here

Don't want snow either, can't cycle around the village and have to clear the pavement outside the house. Then put salt down so some old dear doesn't slip and fall and sue you. All right if you don't have to go out in it.

Our kitchen compost bin in the garden is bursting seems to be leaning forward as it hasn't been emptied for so long it's actually popped its side hinges.
And I seem to have severe Can'tBeArsedItis Can'tBeBotheredItis. Spend so much time organising school & sailing stuff I haven't the energy to clean the house, it's filthy. God I'd be hopeless if I had a job.
We've got stuff planned every Sat and Sunday till C'mas apart from this one. So I shall have to spend this weekend on Mumsnet cleaning and clearing the mountain of dirty laundry...
Is it wine o'clock yet?

OP posts:
thequietone · 21/11/2008 14:16

Wish it was wine o'clock, but I've a German lesson tonight, so can't even have a cheeky one after the boys go down fot the night. Mind you, doesn't stop DH. He sits in most lessons with a glass of red, reading painfully slowly in German and asking more and more silly questions.

finknottle · 21/11/2008 14:24

at your h reading painfully slowly.

I've promised d we'd go and get cakes from the bakery but at high winds and lashing rain. Can't not, is a treat for her learning to read and getting her first reading book from her teacher this week.

I couldn't plan anything for a Friday night, am shattered and have started falling asleep on the sofa.
Tired old lazy slattern, what a catch I am

ErnestTheBavarian · 21/11/2008 14:38

back from KG - wind & rain mercifully dropped in time, tho it was quite hard work cycling against the wind on the way back. Our rain has started up again and is definately sleety, so will be keeping eye on window. A bit stressed and anxious as dh still has't got his winter tyres on. He was moaning that it was crap of BMW to not have got in touch with him to arrange it . I know he's busy but still.

finknottle · 21/11/2008 15:41

Yours was the 666th message Ernest

I am not starting a new thread as it will be Adventy or Chrtistmassy and that is plainly wrong in November.

Lol at admylin pulverising chocolate Santas.

Def snow on the way here, temp must be 10 C colder than yesterday. Bitingly cold. Have cakes and am not going anywhere till Monday. Am obviously not doing any housework either

OP posts:
finknottle · 21/11/2008 15:44

Shiner, are you new or a name-changer? Nice to see you either way. My neighbour is Bavarian and laughs his head off as I'm always asking him to slow down or repeat what he said.

OP posts:
admylin · 21/11/2008 15:57

finknottle, meeting is over - please go and tell me what you think over on the School thread.

shiner you're in Munich aren't you? I also want to move to Munich, it's not fair, everyone is near Munich!

finknottle · 21/11/2008 16:01

I'm nowhere near Munich, you loon... heading to Thread of Doom now...

OP posts:
admylin · 21/11/2008 16:02

Ok but you're nearer than me! Thinking Autobahn here...!

hupa · 21/11/2008 17:07

It´s really snowing heavily and settling here. There´s chaos outside our house. We live on a hill on the main road and three lorries have come to a stand still because of the snow. Unfortunately one was trying to overtake another one when it came to a standtill so the road is blocked in both directions with lots of irate car drivers sounding their horns.

We´ve got round the dog problem by offering to look after our neighbours when they go away. They´ve only had it a few weeks, so had no chance to practice yet. Mind you I´m glad they´re not away this weekend - I wouldn´t fancy walking it much in this weather.

taipo · 21/11/2008 17:45

No snow here yet but we are in the warmest part of Germany...apparently. Actually I like snow and was a bit disappointed not to get any last year. Not really properly equipped for it though.

My mil gets very anxious about keeping her path clear when it snows. She's out there every 5 minutes sweeping away. I wonder how many people actually do get sued.

Dd is away this weekend with the Pfadfinder. I'm trying not to worry about them having a pillow fight and it causing an asthma attack. Have packed all her inhalers and stressed that she must remember to take them but I bet she'll be too excited to think of it.

finknottle · 21/11/2008 18:16

4C here so no snow yet but cooooolllllld.
Taipo, where are you? I remember you saying you're 2 hrs from KL on the train, is that right?
And hupa?
Maybe we should do a roll call like on the FOOC thread.
Am waiting for supper to cook, normally I do a snacky supper on Fridays for me, h & d as the boys go to the youth club and eat pizza but s2 is feeling better and back to eating his own body weight in food.
He ate half a cheesecake I bought earlier, thinking we could eat it today and tomorrow... Maybe I should learn to bake.

taipo · 21/11/2008 18:27

I'm just south of Karlsruhe in a fairly quaint town called Ettlingen. Tis flat Rhine valley country but you can see the start of the Black Forest from here. Where are you? I know you're in the Pfalz somewhere.

I must sort the house out this weekend. In an effort to do something together dh suggested that we go out on Sunday evening. All well and good but I am actually embarrassed about the state of the house for when the babysitter comes.

TheGabster · 21/11/2008 19:56

LOL at hupa lorry chaos.

Snow has settled here but only thin. Is zero out there though, so only needs to have another decent downfall to look like serious snow. We are a few hundred metres higher than Munich and Starnberg so not sure if its just us for now.

Welcome Shiner! Are you in Munich then? Whereabouts?

Ernest - LOL at your DH - but be careful. Friend got refused insurance when he had an accident in ice and he did not have winter tires on yet!!!

Mme - cant move until March as 3 months' notice on house but will not know whether DH has been accepted onto scheme until after November deadline (28th)for Kündigungfrist. Grrrrr.

TQO - hairdresser is called Chris (male), tel 089 54508060. The place is called ElCorte and its Dachauer Str. 22 - about 5m walk from the station. Enjoy! (p.s. be warned, like all good male hairdressers ....)
