Isn't it amazing how much work one can do when the pc is buggered?

So far today we have been to the pet shop for doggy supplies (mega ouch) to the farmers market and bought a chicken for tonights dinner. We are having it cold with salad and yummy French bread.

Then we had tea in front of the fire. I am now half way through changing the kids bedrooms around. Dd is a very light sleeper and gets wakened when we get up for the loo. So I have dismantled the beds (ow) and swapped them. Must go and finish off.

Your Xmassy day sounds lovely.

TheGabster · 29/11/2008 18:38

FInk - oooh, castle eh? Sounds posh.

Mme - are you OK? Doggy supplies!!! It's so exciting. Are you picking him up on Monday?

We went to a local village Xmas market today on the S-bahn - first glühwein of the season, and DS had his first Lebekuchen (given to him by a stall holder, I DID NOT buy my 9mo son biscuits!). Was lurverly.

Bought a kranz in Munich last week so going to go bring up all the deccies in a sec and get my glue gun and see what I can stick to it to put in on the front door tomorrow. We are doing decorations once DS is up and sorted. Can't wait!! DH hates it because I am so short I ended up ordering him around in the way of "left a bit, right a bit, put it there - no wait ...." when all he wants to do is sit in front of the tv. Everybody say "ahhhhh, poor MrGabster".

admylin · 29/11/2008 18:44

We went deep into the forest today and got loads of stuff for the adventkranz and holly and ivy and so on. It was totally dark at the end of the trip and we all had torches and dd loved it, it was so spooky and foggy abit too. Thank goodness we had the dog with us (golden retriever). At one point something dashed past us across the path, I'm not sure what it was but it was fast!

We're doing all the decorating tomorrow. I was really nice to h too - took him some food in the car and some coffee as he is working late at the lab.

Mmelindt, well done for all the talking. You can atleast put that on his plus list as alot of men will not talk about problems like that.

admylin · 29/11/2008 18:46

By the way - what is it we actually eat at Christmas - Pute or Truthahn?

TheGabster · 29/11/2008 19:40

Ad - that sounds fab, collecting ivy etc.! I am totally .

Not sure about the Xmas question - we are going to have Goose this year!! he he But seriously, according to leo.com it depends on the sex of your bird! (Pute is hen and Truthahn is .... erm ... the other one - trust the Germans).

DH takes the dog for a last jaunt around 7.30pm which of course is pitch black (but the dog has a torch fixed to his harness - he he) and comes back with stories. What sort of wildlife are in the woods there then? With us its usually deer but last night he said a rabbit ran across the path in front of him, closely followed by the dog ....

ML - have just read your thread on relationships. Sounding good - but of course hope you don't read this until tomorrow! XX

MmeLindt · 29/11/2008 19:52

No such luck, Gabster. DH still not home. No tv no pc

Mum is going to phone me back in a while. She is bathing my niece at the moment. Thank God for mums, eh?

I did not know that a Pute was the female version. I always wondered.

Gabster
You made me LOL with your tale of your ds and his first lebkuchen. Btw, may I correct you? Lebkuchen not lebEkuchen, although your way sounds very sweet. That kuchen knows how to party, he is a right lebekuchen.

Admylin
Love the sound of your walk. Spooky wooooods are great fun.

Does anyone have an adventskranz? I forgot this year and tomorrow is 1st advent. Will do one next week and light 2 candles

taipo · 29/11/2008 20:33

Didn't know either about difference between Pute/Truthahn.

I'm so much looking forward to a full Christmas dinner at my parents. We don't do one if it's just us as dh is vegetarian. It's the one time of year I really wish he did eat meat.

I forgot the Adventskranz too. God knows how as they are everywhere atm. Christmas seems to have a habit of sneeking up on me. I always think I've got loads of time to send cards, put up decoration, buy presents etc. and before I know it it's Dec 24th and I haven't done anything.

TheGabster · 29/11/2008 20:49

ML - God, I'm pants at spelling in English, let alone German!!

Am sitting here on laptop surfing, and DH on his laptop surfing. We are looking at boring things like ferry prices and vets for the dog's passport, planning campsites for the trip etc.

Nah, who am I kidding? We are drooling over Asda and all the things we could buy when we move back!!

ErnestTheBavarian · 30/11/2008 07:11

happy stsart of advent I'm looking forward to some Glühwein today.

got up our advent calendar, but not dug out kranz yet.

Gave my precious dd her 1st proper food last night She's growing up too quickly - 6 months already She's my last baby and it's just whizzing by

We go to UK in just over 2 weeks so am asking myself if I can really be bothered to put up Christmas decorations? (well yes, I'm sort of asking you). It's always harder in new house, as you have to work out what goes where. Subsequent years you can just chuck it up (or is that unimaginative old me?)

Admylin, any news of jobs? And Gab, what's happening about your dh?

MmL, email me on ernestthebavarian at gmail dot com?

admylin · 30/11/2008 20:44

Evening all.

I have just risked putting a few photos on my computer even though it really can't take any more so I've put our door Kranz and candle adventskranz on profile - all home made and I have sore finger tips as those pine needles really were sharp! I've planted the left over ivy on the balcony and I hope it grows as I love ivy.

taipo · 30/11/2008 21:27

Oo I like the adventskranz, admylin. I have failed utterly as a wannabe German Hausfrau and not made one. I didn't even get round to buying one. Maybe tomorrow, so that we have one for next week at least.

Mind you, I'm wondering (like you Ernest) how much stuff I should actually put up as we won't be here for 10 days over Christmas. Dc would be very disappointed if we didn't get a tree so maybe I should get a small one.

debinaustria · 30/11/2008 22:27

Happy 6 months to your DD!! What did she think of the food idea???

debinaustria · 30/11/2008 22:28

v impressive Admylin - I bought one!!

MmeLindt · 01/12/2008 07:00

Morning all.

Good news on the DH front. We are now at least talking to each other again and we had a reasonably good WE

I am glad in a way that the pc died as it is making me spend more time doing other stuff. We will get another one after Xmas when I feel that my MN addiction is better under control.

Going to walk the DC to school then go and pick up Daphne :-))

Admylin
Well done with your kranz.

MmeLindt · 01/12/2008 07:02

Ernest
Have emailed you

Anyone know where I have hidden the DC's chocolate advent calenders?

taipo · 01/12/2008 08:40

Lol ML. I hid mine in the cellar but the dc knew exactly were they were and ran straight down to get them this morning. They were convinced yesterday that they should open the first window because it was the 1. Advent. Managed to persuade them otherwise.

Glad that things are better with you and dh.
Good luck with Daphne

hupa · 01/12/2008 09:00

Mme Lindt - glad to read that you and dh are now talking. Have you told the dc about the dog yet? I´m glad that you held out for Daphne - great name.

Admylin - lovely advents kreuz. Every year I have good intentions to make my own, but somehow manage to run out of time and end up buying one.

Ernest - I can´t believe your dd is six months - Where does the time go?

We had a great weekend doing lots of sledging with the dc and dh took dd off for a bit of skiing yesterday. We then went to a really small Christmas market in the next village. It´s times like this when I think that living in Gerrmany isn´t too bas after all ( it doesn´t usually last long, but hey, I´ll enjoy it while it does).

CindersHasAChristmasBallgown · 01/12/2008 10:17

mmelindt

lots of luck with puppy.

finknottle · 01/12/2008 10:38

Daphne's a brilliant name for a dog, suits her down to the paws.
We've hit nearly 850 posts here, think I'll start a Christmas thread as it's Dec 1st and Advent & all.
I do love Advent here.
