ZZZen · 20/11/2008 12:21

Have you had a drastic cut ML? I really must do something about mine, it just hangs down. I always come up against really bossy hairdressers though who refuse to ever do what I want. THey just trim it, won't colour it, nothing. Why though? Surely they get more money out of me by changing the colour, etc?

I need to become more FORCEFUL. I will work on it a bit but not today, have the flu, yuk, so not up to much.

How is dd now ML, did you have a chance to speak to the teacher about those extra French lessons, is it looking a bit brighter now?

ZZZen · 20/11/2008 12:27

AndZen... quite like that one although with dd fixated on moving us to Italy these days, perhaps I need Andadenna

MmeLindt · 20/11/2008 12:46

Have a look at my before and after photos on my profile. The before was a supermarket hairdresser. The after the French hairdresser at the gym. Still only 35euros for the wash cut and blowdry though.

finknottle · 20/11/2008 13:10

v glam, suits youv well and I pay a lot more than 35 euros in this one-horse village.
Amazing how a good hair cut boosts you, isn't it?
Zen, chin up and repeat: "Colour my hair, Frau!"

Scared of hairdressers. You've got to be on their good side really, haven't you?

ML that looks really good. You have a sweet face too, you look like you're ready to burst into a smile at the drop of a hat.

It's funny the before picture looks totally different to how I imagined your hair. For some reason I thought you had long blonde hair. Or have I seen a photo of you with long blonde hair before? Didn't you have it long in the photo outside the castle?

MmeLindt · 20/11/2008 16:48

I had a shoulder length bob that was a bit wavy in the photo that you mean, in front of Alnwick Castle, aka Hogwarts.

Thanks for the compliment

Have you noticed that. DH says, "you look good in that dress" and you start complaining about your arse looking huge in it. Woe betide him if he agrees

TheGabster · 20/11/2008 20:08

Evening all - finally found some time to get online.

Trip went well. DS hardly slept, as expected I suppose. He only slept if he was on one of us, which means DH and I hardly slept so have come back EVEN MORE exhausted then when we left. However, MIL was fab (also as expected) and kept whisking DS off to meet various neighbours and friends so had a bit of a break here and there, and have lots of PG tips and cadburys chocolate buttons to compensate.

Went to baby group this morning in a sleep deprived fug and think I have just signed up for Kinderbetreung but not sure? Can't believe they have no places until September. Wanted to go back to work in February?! D'oh.

Will pop back when I have managed to catch up on some sleep. G

PS Ernst not looking likely for a meet next week at the mo but will get through the (hopefully full of sleep) weekend first and then see.

ErnestTheBavarian · 21/11/2008 07:47

morning all. just got soaked taking ds to kg. did you all have the storm? My goodness, I thought the rood was coming off.

admylin · 21/11/2008 08:48

Yes we got soaked too this morning although I was quite pleased to see it was just rain when I opened the curtains this morning as they have been forcasting snow and I hate snow. Stupid thing is I have the car sitting outside but as soon as you move it on a week day some on etakes the parking space. H must get the garage sorted so we can go in and out when we like!

That's why I went shopping at the weekend when it's busy because the offices around our housing area are closed and there isn't a car in sight.

thequietone · 21/11/2008 08:57

Morning everyone, I've not been on for aaaages. In fact I'm just coming up for air briefly after cleaning up vomit all week. DS1 and I had it the same night - we curled up in bed together as DH was away and were sick together. We even shared the bowl at one point!!! Nice.

ML - I love your hair. I desperately want to get rid of ALL my hair, go for a short cut. I have very thick wavy hair that, since I had DS2, has lost all life. It hangs like a sad puppy. I'm too scared to go to the hairdressers here, though. I'm not confident with my German (still having lessons) and worry I'll come out with something different to what I requested.

Maybe I should leave it until I return to the UK for Christmas.

I'm now going to scroll back and see what's been happening with you all.

Oh yes, we had the storm too, last night. DS1 is so excited about the snow coming, but it won't setttle tonight if it arrives, what with all the rain.

admylin · 21/11/2008 09:36

hi thequietone, I always try to go to the hairdresser in UK - if I don't get back for a while it gets long! I think German hairdressers hardly understand their own language. I've been with ds loads of times and the only decent haircut he's ever had has been in UK. I try explaining and really insist on them leaving a certain length on top otherwise it sticks up and he hates it but they always do it wrong.

So latest news is that h has seen a job in Newcastle that he's applying for, teh Oxford one is still running too. I have to apply for secondary school for ds if we move in UK for September 2009 -infact I've missed the deadline for most schools. Why do men not think ahead and plan, I just think we're going to be in a right mess if we move to UK and he doesn't get a decent place, and it'll stress them both to start over again even though they want to go to 'home'.

MmeLindt · 21/11/2008 10:10

Aw, TQO, you poor soul. Love is ... sharing a puke bowl

I have always found the hairdressers in UK better than in Germany. They seem to cut so fast and not really do a great job in D. When I got my haircut in Scotland last year she spent an hour cutting, in D they spend about 15 mins.

Fink
You have a dog, don't you. Did you have to do a lot of persuading with your DH? I was thinking this morning, as I walked through the vineyards in the rain that I was missing a dog. I know we have always said that it is not for us as we are away a lot, but then I thought that my parents were too and they either took the dog with them or she went into the kennels. You can pretty much take a dog anywhere with you in Germany/Switzerland

Admylin
It must be really hard on you adn the DC at the moment. I do think that your DH should not talk about the job move in front of the kids until he at least has an interview. It must be unsettling to the kids to hear different countries/towns bandied about like that.

ErnestTheBavarian · 21/11/2008 10:13

Admylin, Different LEAs probably have different rules, but I was told catagorically by KCC that I couldn not apply for school places until I was actually resident in that county. I said it was stupid (probably a bit more tactfully) in that I might have eg 6 months notice that I was moving from here to there, and could I not apply as soon as I knew, in order to start straight away. She told be no way. Even if it then meant dcs at home with no school place for several weeks, they wouldn't accept application unless resident.

must be doing your head in all this uncertainty

admylin · 21/11/2008 10:19

Mmelindt, a dog is top of our list too. It would do the dc good too but as it's the summer holidays that stop me getting one. I know I want to spend as much time as possible - ideally the whole 6 weeks back home. We all need it and the dc love it and it helps them have a feeling of 'home' as they don't feel German at all. Have a trip to the Tierheim planned one weekend to have a look though. I'll ask them how much it would be per week too and then add it all up. H would be able to have the dog at work I suppose but not sure if he'd agree. Then again, would it be fair if I decided to go out to work or take a course of some sort? TheGabster where will your dog be when you go back to work?

I've got the application form for my home town secondary for ds - I'd be so happy if I knew we were going back there. I'll keep it in my files for a while and see how things go.

admylin · 21/11/2008 10:22

Thanks Ernest, I thought that's what it sounded like going by the info thing they sent me. You also need to send them your electric/gas/water contract or your council tax bill to prove you really live there. Luckily I've been told that the numbers are down this year so the school has widend it's catchment area to get enough pupils in. Might be lucky.

finknottle · 21/11/2008 10:46

We had a dog, died when I was pg with d. Since then the others have all nagged at me to get another one but I don't want to tbh.
Used to be out & about on Kiga run or airing babies so walking in the vineyards was easy but - a bind when you have to, rain or shine, +30C or -10C.

The children are much more independent, can manage toilet, drinks, food (to certain extent) and garden access all by themselves, I don't feel like having a new body to consider/take care of. "Let the dog out, give him his food, must take him for a walk..."

Then there was the poop scooping, paw washing, the matted coat, the dirty floors, the ticks, fleas, combing, combing, combing, checking he couldn't get to food...
Here v dog friendly and we took him everywhere. He was a lovely dog, looked like this
I put h off by saying a dog would scratch the parquet and wooden stairs which cost us a fortune.

Admylin, are you not excited even by the possibility of a move? Talking about sec. schools, wow!

So go on then, what do you lot think I look like?

OP posts:
ErnestTheBavarian · 21/11/2008 10:56

hairy knuckles...tattoos...big biceps...HGV licence

The Gab can tell you I am 5'11", waist length blond wavy hair, green eyes and size zero Oh, and with an air of serenity

finknottle · 21/11/2008 11:12

Do you really have waist-long hair?

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 21/11/2008 11:16

Damn, should not have posted the photos, now I cannot lie describe myself to you properly.

That dog looks lovely, Fink, but does look like a lot of work. Bet it shed hair like nobody's business

finknottle · 21/11/2008 11:21

Didn't shed much tbh but brought in loads of dirt & bits of wood/sand etc caught in it. Not as bad as cats though All the cats in the neighbourhood come and sit on my garden chair cushions and cover them with hairs.
Hate cats.

OMG there is an almighty downpour here, the rain is nearly horizontal and I have to go and pick up d from school as s2 is off sick. On the bike
It is so windy - all we had last night was a bit of howling round the chimneys (the wind, not me & h), is this the storm you mentioned?

Just read the forecast: Örtlich Gefahr von Sturmböen
Must check forecast in the morning, s1 still has no hood on his jacket, slattern mother needs to sew back half the zip. Not that he'd put up the hood anyway, not kewl.

I need one of these

I am going out...I may be some time...

ErnestTheBavarian · 21/11/2008 12:04

sadly, short, fat with short brown hair is closer to the truth. and a frazzled slightly manic air. oh well, we can dream.

sounds like you've got our rain. got so soaked
