Snowing here now too, drat they did get it right! H was meant to be going out for a drink in town with 2 colleagues, I thought whoopee, sofa to myself and TV controls too then he came back in saying I must be mad I 'm not going out in that snow but I managed to convince him so he's gone. Wish I had UK t.v., I bet there's something decent on. German t.v sucks.

I think I've decided to adopt the neighbours dog too hupa. She had the dc when I went to the teacher meeting today so I'll offer to take her dog for a walk sometime. The best kind of dog is the kind you canhand back after a few hours! Finknottle that was a really hairy dog you had! I had an aunt who had a terrier of some sort and she had to wipe it's bum when it had done a poo. Then she'd allow it to sit with her on the her sofa...lurvly.

taipo · 21/11/2008 20:21

Eeugh to doggy bum wiping. None of our neighbours have dogs so we can't adopt one. Quite a few cats around and I suspect that the reason one of them keeps going in our garage is that we've got mice in there. How long do you think until they find their way inside the house?

admylin · 21/11/2008 20:27

The neighbour told me they had rats in the building before and they came in through the cellar. we're on ground floor so I have this thing about insisting they always put the toilet seat down - I have visions of one crawling up through the pipes.

taipo · 21/11/2008 20:42

Rats would really freak me out. We had mice in our house in London which was bad enough especially the time I took a bag of pasta out of the cupboard and felt something move inside - a mouse had chewed a hole in the bag and was busy feasting on the pasta shells. I dropped the bag as though it were on fire.

thequietone · 21/11/2008 20:57

snow snow snow!!! Just finished my German lesson (hence typing in English) and it's settling outside. My teacher warned me on the hills it could get to 1.20m (Ernest, are you there?)

I've no snow shovel - just a kid's bucket of salt and good boots. I'm so British and blase about it. Teacher was horrified at my lack of responsibility...

Luckily our road is about the only one in our town that has no pavements, as we're right by the end of the town ie. forest. No pavements = no courtcases, I hope!!

Keep warm, everyone

x

admylin · 21/11/2008 21:01

Well I hope teh caretaker is responsible for that snow shovelling because we have a really long bit of pavement. They don't believe me back home ehen I tell them these tales of getting sued and having to have your paths cleared by 6am!

Infact they don't believe a lot of things about here - do you find that too? Last time back home I had ds in tears because no one would believe that halb zwei is really half one.

admylin · 21/11/2008 21:03

OMG I think I should go to bed, I haven't even had a drink.

thequietone · 21/11/2008 21:05

Sorry Ergnest, I meant to call out for The Gabster, up in the hills...

Admylin, don't get me started on telling the time. I try to say it correctly in German at KiGa, then the teachers correct me in English, because they think I don't understand the 1/2 to, not 1/2 past. I just know I['m going to end up collecting DS1 from there an hour late one day because of this...

TheGabster · 21/11/2008 21:07

Hey TQO - get a snow shovel - we have no pavement here either and was told by a neighbour you have to clear a 2ft wide area at the side of the road to allow people to walk safely. Mind you, we go with the "bugger that, the snow plough clears the whole road it is so narrow" school of thought but DH is an engineer so we have 4 different shovels (I think he wanted to run his own experiment to see which type is more effective/lasts longer etc).

Not sure if you were here for that really bad snowfall - was it 2005 - it was deeper than the dog! He looks like this.

TheGabster · 21/11/2008 21:09

P.S. Admylin - don't worry. There is nothing on UK TV either!

admylin · 21/11/2008 21:12

Maybe your dh can get the extra rent included in the package when he leaves? Seems silly to have to wait longer when he could be back in UK getting his family settled and job hunting. I'd be so glad to get back to UK - anywhere - infact I think I'd even go to London (always said no way up to now, not with dc) but time is ticking and I need the dc to be settled somewhere SOON.

taipo · 21/11/2008 21:22

Lol at 4 different snow shovels, theGabster. I'm pretty sure we haven't got one. The previous owners left a load of brooms in the garage but I don't remember seeing a shovel. I didn't know about the 2ft thing - we haven't got a pavement either so had assumed we were OK.

Still no snow here though.

admylin · 21/11/2008 21:28

We don't own a shovel either. They had them in Lidl this week I think if you want to get yourself prepared!

debinaustria · 21/11/2008 22:15

Snowing here too but only light covering so far, maybe its on it's way from you people in Germany. - lots of shovels here, 2005 it was 1.6m in the village.

MmeLindt · 22/11/2008 08:59

Lolol at you lot last night. I was doing serious dog negotiations. Dh is not convinced but I am pretty confident that I can persuade him. Will stay away from any dog that needs it's bum wiped.

How is the snow? Typical. We move near the alps and you lot are getting snow and we have none. Saying that, it is very cold and there are some heavy duty clouds on the horizon.

Off to do some housework. Bleach

ErnestTheBavarian · 22/11/2008 09:01

well we woke up this morning, boys screaming excitedly it's snowed it's snowed - look out of window - must have oo all of about half a centimeter .

MmeLindt · 22/11/2008 09:02

Hah! It's snowing!

ErnestTheBavarian · 22/11/2008 09:13

do we live in a weird snow free pocket? Gab & TQO - how much do you have????

MmeLindt · 22/11/2008 09:54

Ok. Cancel that. We had a 30 second flurry and now the sun is shining. Bloody cold though. I must finish unpacking the boxes in the bunker as that is where the kids winter jackets are.

Dh is in a stinker mood today again. How long am I supposed to put up with his schlechte Laune

debinaustria · 22/11/2008 11:18

still snowing here, look at this

finknottle · 22/11/2008 12:18

We only had a pretty rooftop sprinkle, thankfully, now sunny and very cold. Ideal winter weather if winter weather we must have.

We have just spent 45 mins clearing the boys' room, wasn't cluttered much but dirty - what was that stuck on the floor? Have a headache from repeating myself over and over... and from arguing with s1 about why it needed cleaning. After going on about dust, dirt, bacteria & the black plague, I told him spiders would make webs everywhere and crawl over his head at night. That shut him up. Made him vacuum, dust & polish. He seems to have become a teenager and he's not 12 yet. Then I made them clean their bathroom. Must do a proper list of chores, we had a routine going for a while which worked.

Boys have now fled to friends in case I had any more bright ideas in my "This house is filthy and you are ALL going to help me clean it" mood. I'm normally on top of housework and I hate this state of mankiness. God it's boring. Not spending another Saturday like this.
Shall revive myself with MN & a coffee then tackle the next bit with d. She has the whole corridor full of toys and art stuff as well as her room so the carnage is truly awful.

H is in a sunny mood , he's had a rotten week at work and was def in need of some TLC. We actually spent the evening together, which we haven't done in ages & I was v nice to him & did loads of emailing & admin for him earlier and he brought me a coffee Usually it's me who makes it, admittedly as I complain tell him he grinds too few beans and lets the water boil too long so the coffee is scalded. He came to my study with a mug announcing, "Yes, I ground enough beans and no, I didn't boil the kettle too long!"

Wish it were contagious, MmeLindt, I'd sent some to Geneva. I thought things between you and your h were brighter? Rotten how a bad mood can spoil a weekend.

MmeLindt · 22/11/2008 12:50

He is still a bit grumpy but the more manual labour he does the better his mood becomes, strange creature that he is.

Have done half of the bunker and am having a bite to eat and a sneaky peek at mn. Love my iPhone for this.

This pm I am going to an art gallery in the village with my neighbour and dd. The guys are going to do manly stuff in the diy store.

Fink
Urgh. Kinderzimmer. Hate cleaning them.

TheGabster · 22/11/2008 13:04

Kewl Debs - we have about an inch here - enough to warrant the snowplough in any case

Ernest, never mind sweetie. One think about living here - you KNOW you are going to get it (snow), just not always sure exactly when.

Oh Fink, I have all this to come. Dead right making them muck in though. Good for you.

Have also realised although going out to lunch with friends tomorrow they may come in for coffee or something so have to try and hide clean up some of the mess, mud and clutter everywhere. Always pointless when the dog runs in from the garden wet and shakes ....

Lindt - sorry to hear about your grumpy H. Mine is the same with manual labour. However, he is on cloud 9 at the mo with prospect of finishing working at horrible current job in matter of weeks and I should add currently asleep next to me on the sofa, having moaned how me MNing is too noisy (typing) .

TheGabster · 22/11/2008 13:10

Ladies, if your 9mo woke with 38.6C temp and is in a really bad mood, and has in fact been so since yesterday morning when you come to think about it, do you think it "go to the emergency dr/hospital" or would you think its OK to give it 24 hours and some calpol and take him to the kinderartz on Monday?

Don't want to panick and it has come down to hovering between 37.5 and 38 now, but he is not a happy chappy and I can't see anything obviously wrong. Appart from his new tooth. No rash, not holding anything (appart from his ears but I think thats his teeth too), not bothered by light, .

debinaustria · 22/11/2008 13:14

Gabster - might be an ear infection? I'd probably leave it 24 hrs if it were me, but you know your baby.Go with your gut instinct
