Wow we filled the thread guys. So as I was about to Say UR you've probably had squirrel if you've eaten Chinese . Think I've had most things. Just don't ask eat. Roasting hot here, very busy but having a blast. Enjoyed our new gym yesterday and picnic in the park tonight which was wonderful. Live music, handsome young men - need I say more.

ooo, cali

dooney - happy to be your 'turkey buddy'! Guess it's a wee bit obvious I'm a nervous first time Thanksgiving hostess Must confess I have been reading some of the brined turkey recipe reviews on your link (only about a hundred! ) in a desperate attempt to avert a Thanksgiving meal disaster. You'll (perhaps) be fascinated to know that one resourceful person suggested using a cooler as a turkey brining 'bucket'. Sounds good to me.....!

Cali - a fryer! Sounds as if Thanksgiving will be yummy at your house!

ali - Thanksgiving with the ex....my hat is off to you. Not sure my generosity of spirit could extend that far.

Hi everyone.

We have finally arrived in the US after 2 weeks of hanging around at my parents' waiting for ds visa to come!

Dh has been relocated to Des Moines Iowa and so far we like the look of the place but there's lots to get used to.

The kids have now stopped getting up at 3am, we are in our new house and I can even find my way to buy groceries without getting lost. All I need now is some friends!

I guess I should be thinking about buying a turkey??

Welcome Bunkups! For friends, google momsclub, cafemom and mamasource. If you have a university close by, I expect they will have families and overseas people. Good luck!

A turkey fryer, fab!

Accidental dinner: Man from singing followed me out of the building and asked if I'd like to go for dinner. I said I couldn't so he said, "Tea, then?" and I agreed but we had dinner anyway. Well soup. And tea. And I missed my meeting. But it was fun.

I need a collared green recipe. Urgently. I bought some and have no idea what to do with them. Can anyone help?

Ali, you are a saint.

dooneygirl · 19/11/2008 01:41

Do one of these float your boat? I don't really like them, so the few recipes I've made involve copious amounts of ham. But those have some that look really good to meif they didn't involve collard greens.

SuperBunny · 19/11/2008 01:51

Thanks Dooney.

I searched on Martha stewart and it, helpfully, gave me links to her pages on:

making dolls
fleece costumes
chilled pineapple mousse with pistachios

dooneygirl · 19/11/2008 03:00

Obviously you were not thinking outside the box like she was.

jabberwocky · 19/11/2008 03:03

Superbunny, greens are best served with pepper sauce - the little bottles of peppers in vinegar. Cook in a big pot. My grandmother always added a dash of sugar I think you are vegetarian so I guess the added pork wouldn't do - but it does add something to the taste

dooneygirl · 19/11/2008 03:09

If by something you mean "all the stuff in there that tastes good", I'll agree to that. I don't know why I don't like them. I don't like blackeyed peas, either.

I see that Ted Stevens lost his re-election bid, thank goodness. I cannot believe how many Alaskans voted for him. Actually, I can. Sarah Palin, you said you would take over his senate seat if he got elected and kicked out, God willing. I hope you are listening loud and clear, because methinks God has spoken.

SuperBunny · 19/11/2008 04:06

They were delicious! I can see how ham might add something but they were good without. I've found a new favourite veg! Pepper sauce sounds good for next time. Thanks for the tip.

Sarah Palin should come on MN for a chat sometime.

SuperBunny · 19/11/2008 04:31

Dooney, did you say you get your vanilla from Penzeys? If so, do you get the single or double strength one?

Where can I get DS decent but cheap snowboots. I bought him some in Target but I think they may not be very waterproof.

dooneygirl · 19/11/2008 04:32

Um, no. I'm sure there's plenty of Alaska parenting sites that she'd feel more at home at. Or maybe sites for people that post incoherent, irrelevant, run-on explosions of words.

I'm feeling very comfortable today, because I finally broke down and bought myself bras that fit. Unfortunately, there was only 1 store that carried my size, so I spent way more than I was going to, and only came home with 3, but they fit wonderfully. I know this is a total break from the thought train of the thread, but I'm so happy, I had to share with the group.

alipiggie · 19/11/2008 04:40

dooney - way to go. I love buying bras, especially ones that fit. As for Ms Palin - nah not interested . Hope you're all doing better btw??

I feel like I have swallowed a Kleenex, and have a tickle cough that won't quit, so I took some cough syrup with codeine in it!!! Which probably explains my sharing with the class posts about bras!!! Which, BTW, even with the limited ones I had to choose from, I got a pretty one covered with lace, and another red one!!! But the kids are doing better, so that is all that matters!!! My legs feel funny!!!

I love everybody.

nooka · 19/11/2008 04:48

Congrats on your bras Dooney I wore a bikini the other day (left my swimsuit in a hotel changing room and wasn't about to buy a new one before last summer) and it was really uncomfortable. I thought I'd gotten a bit fat, but it turns out I have Pleurisy, dh said he thought that was very old fashioned!

Tangerine why are you living in NYC if your dh is working in Washington? Seems a bit masochistic to me... I hated even being driven in NYC and La Guardia is a pig to get into.

dooneygirl · 19/11/2008 04:54

Thanks, nooka. I love everybody except Victoria's Secret, who thanks to them, I've been in the wrong size for the past 3 years at least. Maybe because THEY DON'T CARRY THE SIZE I WEAR, THEY WERE OFF ON PURPOSE?????

I'm sorry to hear about the Pleurisy. My mom had it when I was about 7 or 8, and I still can remember how miserable she was, and she was pretty stoic in general. I hope you don't have a bad case of it.

SuperBunny · 19/11/2008 04:54

I love getting a good fitting bra! Where did you get it?

Pleurisy? Isn;t that terrribly painful, Nooka? Are you ok?

SuperBunny · 19/11/2008 04:57

I took DS to Panera today and the staff were sooo lovely with him. He ordered all by himself and the took his name and gave him a buzzy thing that buzzed when his food was ready. But they misheard him and thought that his name was Dennis

dooneygirl · 19/11/2008 04:57

Nordstroms. Hella expensive, but worth every penny, IMO. I'm guessing no formaldehyde in it, either.

dooneygirl · 19/11/2008 05:01

How can you get Dennis out of Dinner? I love their iced green tea. I wish they would sell me a giant vat of it. It might be possible, as DH's friend manages one, but I know that the friend is on to the fact that I don't like him. Which is too bad, as I really like most of DH's friends, but they don't run a Panera Bread, and hence, can be of no assistance to me in my quest for yummy green tea. My head feels really floaty right now.

SuperBunny · 19/11/2008 05:07

Formaldehyde? In my bras? Tell me more.

I will have to take Dennis back for iced green tea. It's good to have useful contacts. Better if you like them.

SuperBunny · 19/11/2008 05:10

Dooney, answer my vanilla question! Purlease

dooneygirl · 19/11/2008 05:25

Dude, I'm so sorry, I totally missed that post. I don't know how. Double. There's no such thing as too much vanilla flavor for me, and it works out cheaper to buy the double strength if you want to 1/2 the amount to equal single strenght. I probably can make better sense of that statement tomorrow, I think. I've gotten hooked on this stuff lately, though

Do you have a Payless shoes near you? They have some pretty good boots for the price.

Formaldehyde bras

Did you know I can balance a cough drop on mny tongue?

jabberwocky · 19/11/2008 13:50

lol, dooney too bad you are too young to have experienced the acid-dropping 60's

Iced green tea sounds wonderful.
