Wow we filled the thread guys. So as I was about to Say UR you've probably had squirrel if you've eaten Chinese . Think I've had most things. Just don't ask eat. Roasting hot here, very busy but having a blast. Enjoyed our new gym yesterday and picnic in the park tonight which was wonderful. Live music, handsome young men - need I say more.

Ali Stay safe

No idea re tens machines, AnnieLaurie. I have not heard of them used here and I gave birth (and run a parenting group which often discusses pain relief in labour) to DS here. I had no pain relief so probably can't advise.

It might not be as bad as you expect...

dooneygirl · 08/01/2009 04:14

Google where to find TENS machines in USA, and there are a few links that pop up where you can buy them.

dooneygirl · 08/01/2009 04:15

Wow, Ali. How scary. Hope everything goes as well as it can.

Bunny, you absolutely amaze me with all you do. I feel very useless and inferior.

Sorry too lazy for the link. Here you go AL. I'm okay, but worried about friend's house for sure.

I had no pain relief either rented a TENS but never used it lol.

Do they work? DH and I were looking at one, and we both came to the conclusion that they looked like something you would find for sale on TV at 3 in the morning on some crazy informercial.

alipiggie · 08/01/2009 04:35

Give me gas and air any day

OP posts:
AnnieLaurie · 08/01/2009 04:40

Oh Ali - me too, love gas and air. WANT gas and air.

So unfair thye dont offer it here

dooneygirl · 08/01/2009 04:46

That's my other question. What is gas and air? Is it like laughing gas?

alipiggie · 08/01/2009 04:54

Don't they call it Entonox here or something similar?

OP posts:
dooneygirl · 08/01/2009 04:57

That helped, it sounds like 1/2 strength Nitrous Oxide. That SUCKS we don't use it here. I love laughing gas. Dentists don't love me when they use it, though, because I get a roaring case of the giggles and can't keep still.

alipiggie · 08/01/2009 05:01

LOL you just made me laugh out loud dooney. I reckon AL you should just suck on a few helium balloons they'd be cheaper.

OP posts:
AnnieLaurie · 08/01/2009 05:08

Ali - if i go into labour tonight its your fault!!

Just fell over laughing at the idea of sucking on helium. The screaming, bellowing noises I made first time round (no pain releif remember) would not translate well on Helium!!!!

dooneygirl · 08/01/2009 05:13

Those childbirth noises are the BEST, aren't they?

I really wish there was a way to convey sarcasm in what one types.

AnnieLaurie · 08/01/2009 05:16

Well Dooney, being in Oregon, if you hear something funny over the next weeks, it might just be little old me in Seattle in the wild grip of contractions

dooneygirl · 08/01/2009 05:27

If you are due in 2 weeks, then I might be in Southern Oregon when you are giving birth, and might not be able to hear you.

I guess the first thing I said after DD was born was "I don't EVER have to do that AGAIN" with a really big smile. Both my Dr. and DH said I did that. I sincerely hope your birth goes as fast or faster than mine.

nooka · 08/01/2009 05:29

Why would you have a plastic bread slicer? What's wrong with a bread knife??

Now you lovely creative types, any ideas on making cordial? The US and Canada don't seem to do it - we tried that nasty powder stuff, and decided... it was nasty

In the UK I made elderflower cordial, until I found I could buy it, and my mum has given me recipes for lemon cordial and ginger beer, but does anyone else have any ideas?

I did find really good raspberry and strawberry syrups in NYC (Polish and Slovakian they were), but nothing here yet. The children are getting better about accepting there is just water, but I'd like to have something nicer for them when dh and I drink wine (esp as otherwise ds wants more than just a sip...)

dooneygirl · 08/01/2009 05:36

The really odd thing about that was the fact that it was about 4 years ago, when I didn't bake bread, and bought all mine pre-sliced, and even when I bought an artisan loaf, you wouldn't want to slice them that thinly anyway.

I don't think I've ever made my own cordial. I make my own syrup and I've done home made versions of Kahlua, Baileys and Amaretto, but not cordial.

SadBillyNoMates · 08/01/2009 13:31

jabberwocky have emailed you but not sure if to the right email address?

chipmonkey · 08/01/2009 13:34

Sorry, jabberwocky, that was me!

SuperBunny · 08/01/2009 15:05

No idea about cordial but would love to know. I have rationed Ribena but it always runs out

dooneygirl · 08/01/2009 15:12

This is not what I wanted to wake up to this morning.

(Goes off to crawl back into bed in a fetal position)

SuperBunny · 08/01/2009 15:23

Oh no.

They shouldn't have taken over Marshall Fields - they ruined it. It was a really nice store before Macy's got involved.

Sorry for your bad news, Dooney. Hopefully your local ones will be ok?

dooneygirl · 08/01/2009 15:38

Don't know, they only named a few and then said those awful words "among others".

On a bright note, I found out yesterday a Trader Joes opened within 10 miles of me a month or so ago, and I'd never heard of it.

It is a good thing I'm on this thread, because I think and worry about serious, weighty world issues. What a good humanitarian I am.

nooka · 08/01/2009 16:28

Trader Joe is good

SuperBunny · 08/01/2009 18:35

Hooray for Trader Joe's!
