Wow we filled the thread guys. So as I was about to Say UR you've probably had squirrel if you've eaten Chinese . Think I've had most things. Just don't ask eat. Roasting hot here, very busy but having a blast. Enjoyed our new gym yesterday and picnic in the park tonight which was wonderful. Live music, handsome young men - need I say more.

Anorak, you sound so organised. I wanna come to Boston

Hope Caitlin is ok, Dooney

dooneygirl · 11/11/2008 04:35

I've been to Boston. Twice. I'd rather be in Bermuda.

She's okay. She's been between 100-101 today. Her and I both, actually. She did her temperature rising, feeling miserable thing this afternoon instead of before bed, so I guess that was polite of her. I still have a very hard time hearing her, as she can barely manage a whisper. I did the same thing every time I got croup, and it took my voice a long time to come back, so I'm not that worried about it, just glad she can breathe.

anorak · 11/11/2008 13:19

Gosh dooneygirl, your children do suffer with these chest problems don't they? Some people seem to be more susceptible than others - if ever I get a cold it always turns into a hacking cough. I hope they feel better soon.

I'd rather be in Bermuda than Boston too! But there are no tit surgeons in Bermuda. At least I'll be able to get my family a wii for Christmas for less than $500.

SuperBunny · 11/11/2008 18:34

I like Boston. I wonder if they'll have the christmas lights up while you are there. Our Macy's had trees up before Hallowe'en.

Other than visiting, Anorak, can any of us do anything to help?

Hope the Dooney clan are better.

dooneygirl · 11/11/2008 22:13

Nope, now Colin's at 102 and trying to get croup. Fortunately we've been there so often, the Dr. prescribed some steroids for him, so hopefully that will head it off from coming a full-blown attack. If their fevers aren't better by Friday, I get to take them in and they're going to start running tests so try to figure out what's going on.

anorak · 12/11/2008 14:13

Thank you Superbunny, but I don't need anything. My cousin the lovely Kimi is joining me in Boston and will stay with me throughout. So we have three days to shop and drink cocktails before the actual op. After I am discharged from hospital she will be able to wash my back for me and go out for chocolate and wine!

I have free internet access in the hotel so can persist in posting rubbish. I'll only be out of action for the four days I'm actually in hospital.

I hope the doctors can figure out why this keeps happening to Colin and Caitlin, it's not normal and it's too much of a coincidence that it happens to both of them. There must be some complication that's causing it.

There is a complication causing it, anorak. It is called the stupid genes they inherited from their mother. I actually have it much easier than my mom, as I was hospitalized almost every time I had croup up until about Caitlin's age (more than once for 7 days), and had croup until the very old age of 10.

I don't know what is going on with the fever thing. It sounds like there are lots of people around here with fevers. My friend's mom had a fever of unexplained origin for 5 weeks before it went away, and when I called the kids' school to tell them neither one would be there this week, she said both of the classes had lots of sick kids.

Caitlin is definitely improving. She's got a pretty good cough going, but it is definitely the "everything is starting to break up and move and causing a really bad tickle in the throat cough."

We gave Colin the steroids last night. He was, um, hyper to say the least. He had a hard time getting to sleep, but they really did a good job at keeping him breathing and holding back the cough. I'm so happy she gave him those, because being pro at this, when he does cough, I can tell he would really have a harsh case this time.

SuperBunny · 12/11/2008 18:36

Oh Dooney. I'm glad there are some improvements.

I didn't mean cies. I don't know who I was thinking of Confused

alarkaspree · 12/11/2008 18:50

Hi everyone. I am one of those that doesn't post so I'm going to try again.

We have moved into our own apartment (were previously in corporate accommodation) and had to wait a couple of weeks for our TV/phone/broadband (but it was worth the wait, it is very fast).

I got told off this morning by a bank security guard for not making ds wear a hat. This seems quite common, I need to develop a thicker skin so it doesn't upset me.

Dooneygirl, I'm sorry about your croup problems. It sounds awful, poor you.

SuperBunny · 13/11/2008 00:09

Hello alarka. I always used to get told off for not making DS wear a hat. My friend was waiting at the traffic lights to cross the road and an old busybody lady stopped her car, wound down the window and yelled, "That baby should have a hat on!"

I always want to say, "Oh really? DO you think so? It is a but nippy isn't it? I hadn't thought of that. Thank you so much for pointing it out. Gosh, what a rubbish parent I am..."

I've not posted for a while, and need to update my location. We've just moved from New York to British Columbia. Not many Canadians here though, although I know that there are some MNers thinking about it

We arrived on Monday, the kids start their new school tomorrow, and our stuff should arrive then too. All a bit deja vue, as seven months ago we did all this in the States, but never mind, after almost three weeks on the road it's nice to stop for a while.

alarkaspree · 13/11/2008 00:54

Last year we lived here for 3 months and I got told off by the POLICE! Like this

Policeman 'Can I help you?'
Me 'Oh yes please, I'm looking for Lafayette St'
Policeman 'Those children should be wrapped up warmer in this weather'. [stomps off]

I cried.

Your idea is better though Califrau. Or I thought of giving the security guard the hat and saying 'Here, ds, this man is going to put your hat on for you'. Strong protests would ensue. I wouldn't do that with the policeman though because he had a big gun.

Cool pans, CF. I am going to make cookies for people here.

Crikey, alarka, that'd make me cry too. Big guns are a little off-putting. DS & I walked past a parked police car this week. As DS approached on his bike, the policeman wound down his window and put the lights on. DS was thrilled. Then the policeman said, "Can I ask you something? Where'd you get that bike?" I assumed he was asking because it is a balance bike and is a bit unusual round these parts, not because he thought I'd pinched it. I really need to get a pedal bike for Dinner now but I can't find any 12" ones anywhere, not even Target.

Dooney, I hope your dcs are better today. Steroids can be a wonderful thing for breathing ime.

Welcome MadameDeathstare! Glad to see someone else in the South

Which reminds me I need to update from TN to AR - I hope everyone knows that is Arkansas and not Arizona

Quattrocento · 13/11/2008 19:58

I am currently in the US and not in NYC for once. So on this trip I have been childishly amusing myself by eating "forrin" food at every available opportunity.

This has involved stuff called grits and grouper, key lime pie, a po'boy, flatbread, sourdough thingies, fried green tomatoes which weren't as awful as they sound. Oh lots of stuff. And drinking cold tea or weak coffee of course.

What's the oddest food thing you've got used to?

dooneygirl · 14/11/2008 00:51

So you're obviously somewhere in the South, Quattrocento?

I knew I jinxed it. He's over 101 again.
