My diary is wide open as i'm still 'Billy no mates'

Birchgrove is lovely - v.jealous!
Great playgroups and parks. I'm always at Elkington park - maybe we could meet there with DD"s!

ViolentFemme · 05/06/2008 20:41

Ooh I would love to come - we arrive Tuesday 24th June so 27th would be best for me.

Yippee!

ninedragons · 05/06/2008 23:43

The flat is pretty crappy, though! Indeed you may have seen my recent thread about removing or plastering over Artex ceilings...

I would love to have someone to meet in Elkington Park. I have been away from Sydney for years and years and the three friends I still have there are gay. They're politely interested in people's children but would recoil if DD ran up to them with hands covered with melted icecream and grass clippings.

brightongirldownunder · 06/06/2008 02:55

Violentfemme - hooray!
I may well be staying until aug 6 as I don't think I can change my flights. We're going back to the Uk for 6 weeks then back here for good.
Ninedragons - funnily enough I have 3 gay friends in Sydney too, mad old world eh? Have to say DD threw some fish at one DF the other day and although he chuckled I don't think he was too impressed as it went all over his lovely shirt.
I love Elkington -great views and always people to chat to. going there this afternoon as long as the rain holds off. Would ask you to come but it would mean a bit of travelling I suppose!
Better to have place to do up in your own way rather than buying something thats been expensively redecorated and not to your taste. Wish I could paint the walls in the house we're renting - its got strange paint effects in the sitting room and - get this - a magnetic suede effect wall - DON't ASK!!! Reckon the Changing Rooms team were here at some stage.

brightongirldownunder · 06/06/2008 03:13

BTW Violentfemme I'm going to a great playgroup and there are at least 3 boys same age as yours, DD is great buddies with one, so no worries about him finding friends!

ninedragons · 06/06/2008 04:39

I am beside myself with curiosity about the magnetic suede-effect wall. It sounds like something cooked up when drunk at 3am. I've been looking at houses on the next rung (well, maybe two or three or even four rungs above us) of the housing ladder and it's hard to find anywhere in inner Sydney that hasn't had some minimalist philistine come in to a Victorian terrace, rip out all the original ceiling roses and skirting boards, paint it taupe and put halogen spots in all over the place.

I'm going to have to bow out for the 28th, as the gay friend in question is in Canada and we will only overlap on that weekend.

Enjoy your outing to the park. We used to get taken to swimming club at the Dawn Fraser pool and English people have always been terribly impressed when I tell them about the week it was closed because a shark got in and they couldn't get it out.

brightongirldownunder · 06/06/2008 06:34

Seriously what is that all about with the halogen and taupe redec of victorian houses? We're in one filled with spotlights - I feel like I'm on stage! Its bad enough that the old pubs are being done over like that but houses?!! As for the wall, apparently the son of the owner sees himself as a bit of an interior designer (hmmm) and got these magnetic suede effect (haha) squares from somewhere in europe. Its quite the strangest thing I've ever seen and all DD wants to do is pull them down.
Can we make another date for you to be included?

MrsBigD · 06/06/2008 07:16

Hey you lot ;) I'm off line for a few days and the meet-up thread deters into a chat thread

May I suggest a general chat thread and a separate meet up thread (this one). Main reason being I'm not permanently online atm and boy there's so much to catch up with

so any favourite days yet? and time of meet?

OP posts:
brightongirldownunder · 06/06/2008 07:24

Sorry MissBigD! My fault - I join the thread and cause trouble- but sadly "little miss tangent" is my nickname.
Back to the original question!
27th? then violent femme and ninedragons can come. Dunno about time...

brightongirldownunder · 06/06/2008 07:25

But just for the record MBD do you have taupe and halogen spotlights too? Magnetic walls?

MrsBigD · 06/06/2008 07:30

LOL now you've lost me brightongirldownunder...

27th ok for everybody? shall we set the date?

have to go off line now as internet cafe credit running out. so looking forward to being permanently online again!

ninedragons · 06/06/2008 08:35

27th is perfect for me! In fact I have just used this meet-up as a mental justification for buying a pair of shoes. They are five-inch heels (I live in clogs - NOT crocs, proper clogs) and I can't try them on until my husband gets home in case I topple over and crack my head open on the coffee table and leave the baby crying in her swing all afternoon. Not a very sensible purchase for an event with alcohol, I suppose.

brightongirldownunder · 06/06/2008 12:11

I love clogs! Seen some lovely red cath kidston ones I'm going to get when I go back to the UK. Sorry...off the subject again...but I'll wear heels too then we can fall over together.
I've booked the 27 with DH - hooray!
Times...how late is evening for most of us. I could b/f DD at 7:30 and get there for 8 - otherwise I'll try and make it earlier(it'll be a whole new experience considering she goes to bed at 8pm and wakes at 8am normally!)

ninedragons · 06/06/2008 13:13

Don't mind about times, I am off the leash for the night.

Here is a new Aussie chat thread I took the liberty of starting. All further discussion of sharks, suede-effect magnetic walls, non-denominational schools and Cath Kidson clogs to take place there.

MrsBigD · 09/06/2008 01:38

I'm tempted to buy clogs

27th it is time I'd say after 20:00 onwards. for me depends on when dh gets home. So 20:30 probably safest so I don't have to abandone the kiddies ;)

ninedragons well done on chat thread

Oh and I won't be wearing heals, I'll just break something!

ninedragons · 09/06/2008 02:24

Rightio. My China Mobile phone doesn't have global roaming but I will buy a new SIM card when I get to Sydney.

I thought Henley was in UK. Need an Aussie on here to confirm that your buddy does actually live in sydney!

brightongirldownunder · 09/06/2008 16:11

tell her to join up and chat on other thread to get to know us.

ViolentFemme · 09/06/2008 22:43

I'm going to be v busy over next three weeks so won't be posting but I will be at the meet on 27th 20.00/20.30 wherever it may be.

Cheers gals!

aquasea · 10/06/2008 01:02

Hi ladies! I haven't been aound for a while but it looks like this is all pretty much sorted. I will be there... also wearing heels!

ninedragons · 10/06/2008 02:56

Aha, Cod is sending a spy! I have no idea where Henley is.

I have chickened out on the heels. I tried them on again and feel like a transvestite in them.

ninedragons · 10/06/2008 02:58

I was just sitting here thinking that that's probably the hallmark of a Sydneysider - anyone who thinks that 5-inch heels are for men.
