My DD3 has stage 4 Cancer

We are in shock, horror, disbelief. Last week she had a sore leg and went to A&E, now she has stage 4 Neuroblastoma and chemo starts on Tuesday.
She's only 3 but she's taking it in her stride. She cried the other night and said 'I don't want to be sick, I just want to go to nursery with my friends' it broke my heart.
The implications are just hitting, our whole lives are turned upside down for at least a year. One of us will have to give up work, how will we cope? Financially, emotionally.
I have a black lump in my stomach and can't believe this is happening to us

Update May 2023

My daughter had her 6 month remission check... nothing growing that shouldn't be there and all tests clear. Hurrah 🎉 the big black ball of fear comes back before each of these checks which are every 3 months for now. Hopefully it will get smaller in time. In the meantime, she is thriving and a happy, healthy 5yr old x

Yolo12345 · 17/05/2023 01:14

And, despite all its flaws, thank god for the NHS.

Please can I just ask how your DD's hearing is now?

Also are you and your husband "recovered" from this experience? Are you both back at work as usual? Take care xx

friskybivalves · 17/05/2023 09:59

That's such great news. I'm always worried when I see this thread reappear but a hugely heartening update!

CoronationKicking · 17/05/2023 10:06

Amazing. So pleased for you

ToddlerMumma · 17/05/2023 10:07

@Yolo12345 thank you, yes, we really love the NHS. It's annoying trying to get a GP appt but they are truly fantastic when you really need them.
Her hearing was impacted along with her growth and fertility. She has lost her high frequency hearing. However, she has adapted really well. She sits nearer the front in class, she has subconsciously become a great lip reader. I don't think it will impact her life too much
I feel like I have PTSD to be honest. I can't stand sudden loud noises now. I could probably do with counselling if some kind but life is so busy it's hard to put yourself first sometimes x

I really didn't want to open this because I didn't want to see a sad outcome. This is fantastic I'm so happy for you All xx

Yolo12345 · 17/05/2023 23:07

@ToddlerMumma oh I'm sorry to hear about this impact on her fertility and hearing, of course that must be very sad for you and nobody would wish that for their child. 💙 How amazing that she has adapted so well with learning to lip read - what an absolute star. I will keep my fingers crossed for medical advancements in these areas. Who knows what might be possible 20 years from now.

Not surprised you feel traumatised, please be kind to yourself and take care of you. It might just be having a nice cup of tea and slice of cake. Watching something chill on tv. Sending love and positive vibes. ✨

EasyPeelersAreNotSatsumas · 18/05/2023 18:15

I've just read your update. How bloody wonderful it is too.

Now for you, special mum. Please have some therapy as everything will hit you now that you can breathe.

Enforceddrysummer · 21/07/2023 10:28

My cousin has been left with hearing loss and infertility. She's very talented and has taught art in China. She won't wear her hearing aids. Now married to a lovely man, they foster babies. She's had a great quality of life since neuroblastoma.

MrsPerfect12 · 24/07/2023 07:55

This is the first I've seen your post. So glad to read a positive outcome. I've hope you're taking good care of yourself too.
