Feeling so bloody stupid and angry at myself, I have 3 points, just got another notice through, doing 47 in a 40 - the previous limit was 50 - I didn't slow down in time, but what happens next what if this week I have been stupid as well, I am scared to open any letters

What happens if this week I have done it again without realising and I get 12 points, I can't lose my license, I need my car for work, I am a shift worker and I have a child a home and an elderly mother, I am so worried,

I know its my fault, but in my defence its been evenings or early mornings, no one around and its been on average speed

Easiest answer - stop speeding.

Konfetka · 24/07/2022 18:13

CDD1992 Got it in one.

MakeMineALarge1 · 24/07/2022 18:15

Yes I know, I could kick myself, its just bloody stupid

Honaloulou · 24/07/2022 18:15

Are you not more worried that your inattentive driving will lead to an accident?

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 24/07/2022 18:15

What happens if this week I have done it again

If you have done it again, you will get three more points. That's what will happen. Confused

Tyrtle · 24/07/2022 18:16

What happens if this week I have done it again without realising
...start realising? Take in your surroundings and read the road signs. If you can’t do that then you’re frankly a bit of a danger.

MakeMineALarge1 · 24/07/2022 18:16

There is literally only me on the road at that time

OP posts:
GretaVanFleet · 24/07/2022 18:17

Have you ever been offered a speed awareness course?

Jalisco · 24/07/2022 18:17

I know its my fault, but in my defence its been evenings or early mornings, no one around and its been on average speed

That is not a defence. A defence is "I wasn't speeding". You were speeding. If you are so careless that you can't adhere to the rules of the road, and so arrogant that you think you are entitled to speed, then I can only hope that you are banned. You do not deserve to be on the road.

MakeMineALarge1 · 24/07/2022 18:18

I am beating myself up here, I know its my fault, there is no one else to blame but me, but I am seriously worried

OP posts:
Saucery · 24/07/2022 18:18

All you can do now is hope you haven’t “done it again” in the last week and pay enough attention to your speedometer so that you don’t speed again.

You being worried about the repercussions of clocking up speeding points means the system is doing what it’s designed to - to make people stop speeding.

You’re lucky you haven’t hurt or killed anyone or yourself so far. Don’t rely on that luck running out.

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 24/07/2022 18:19

I take it you've never done the speed awareness course.

MakeMineALarge1 · 24/07/2022 18:19

Sorry I didn't meant to come across as arrogant, I know I was speeding, it is entirely my fault. I know I am in the wrong

Makes absolutely no difference whatsoever.

OwlNoisesInHerFace · 24/07/2022 18:19

'In my defence its been evenings or early mornings, no one around and its been on average speed'

Oh well that's alright then! Hmm

End of the day, if you've already been clocked again, then there's nothing you can do about it. Not opening your post won't make it go away.

Only thing you can do is pay attention to your speed and not break the law again.

The speed limit is a limit. It's not optional in that you only need to apply it if there's no-one else on the road at the time... I suggest you consider that in your future actions :)

MakeMineALarge1 · 24/07/2022 18:21

I know I am in the wrong, I am sat here crying, I know I am guilty, I am imagining the worst case scenario and losing my license and letting everyone down, I know its me who has got me into this position no one else

OP posts:
pastabest · 24/07/2022 18:21

are you fairly sure you have done it again on the same stretch of road already and that's why you are panicking?

when did you get the first 3 points?

MakeMineALarge1 · 24/07/2022 18:21

I know being on an empty road is no defence, I am sorry.

OP posts:
PinkButtercups · 24/07/2022 18:21

There is no defence. You were speeding.

Halstead · 24/07/2022 18:22

Why are you speeding? Lack of observation (so don’t see the speed limit sign) or just don’t care (until you think you might get points?)

If the former, take an Advanced Driving course. It will increase your observation massively.

if the latter, well, unlucky 🤷🏼‍♀️

Right. But if you crash you are still affecting others. Like the emergency services. And your colleagues who will have to cover your shift and the people who have to take a half day for your funeral.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/07/2022 18:23

Don't worry when the post comes. Worry when you're in the car.

jazzandh · 24/07/2022 18:23

Echo ..speed awareness course.......best thing ever..after I went on one, I actually wanted all my friends and family to attend - they are really really good!

Beyond that - you need to drive with complete care and attention until you have cleared the points!

Many many years ago (30?!) DH was on 9 points, and he literally had to stick to the speed limit all the time. No room for error at all. the lesson was learned!
