Feeling so bloody stupid and angry at myself, I have 3 points, just got another notice through, doing 47 in a 40 - the previous limit was 50 - I didn't slow down in time, but what happens next what if this week I have been stupid as well, I am scared to open any letters

I am looking at worst case scenario, I know I could lose my job and then my house, I feel sick.

Stop doing that. You have 6 points. You do not have 9 points, or 12 points.

Just remember feeling sick about this and slow down.

MakeMineALarge1 · 24/07/2022 18:21

I know I am in the wrong, I am sat here crying, I know I am guilty, I am imagining the worst case scenario and losing my license and letting everyone down, I know its me who has got me into this position no one else

That’s not the worst case scenario.

The worst case scenario is that you kill someone, and go to prison.

surreygirl1987 · 24/07/2022 18:50

Most people manage to get through life without getting a single point. It is a choice you make!!

I actually find Google maps helpful as it tells you the speed limit constantly so if you miss a sign you can check on the screen. I've only known it be wrong once so far. Don't know if that would help you but thought I'd mention it in case.

Shakeitshakeitbaby · 24/07/2022 18:51

Get a satnav that wsrms you if you are speeding.

Shakeitshakeitbaby · 24/07/2022 18:51

Warns even

MakeMineALarge1 · 24/07/2022 18:52

I feel your pain OP. I have only once recieved penalty points. I was on a 60 road ( doing 55) and didn't notice the change of speed as I entered a 30 zone. I got 3 point. I was annoyed as I am usually very aware of speed limits it was 100% my fault, I missed the sign. I have never gotten one again ad it made me even more aware. Take this as your last warning and just take more care.

Redburnett · 24/07/2022 18:55

If you do end up with 12 points you can make a case for exceptional hardship, especially if your inability to drive would impact on others. Get legal advice abou this if you need to.

Saucery · 24/07/2022 18:56

You really need to calm down. No one is going to come with a magic spell to get you out of this. You might have hoped they would by posting in Legal but there’s nothing apart from advice by a couple of posters above that could possibly be of any use to you.
Have a bath, a cup of tea, a walk. You haven’t got 12 points yet, so there’s absolutely no point winding yourself up about it.

whowhatwerewhy · 24/07/2022 18:56

Do you drive down a stretch of road that the limit has been changed on ?
Do you think this is the first of many letters you might get because you have been speeding on the same road every day ?

maddiemookins16mum · 24/07/2022 18:57

Can you get something fitted that alerts you when you go over the speed limit? The husband on my work colleague has this, it goes off every time he goes over the limit.

Oblomov22 · 24/07/2022 19:03

I disagree with most. It's sooooo easy to do. I got caught doing over 30, in a 30, was so easy, I didn't even notice. Embarrassing.

NerrSnerr · 24/07/2022 19:03

Is it a fixed camera or was it a van?

Have you been regularly speeding down this stretch of road so you're expecting more letters to come through?

SchoolNightWine · 24/07/2022 19:06

I had 3 points and then receiving two speeding tickets within a week of each other (not at all proud of this), so ended up with 9 points. It made no difference at all to my insurance premiums (but inform them straight away), but it did make me very, very aware of speed limits. I never go even 1mph over them now and it's nearly 10 years since.

oviraptor21 · 24/07/2022 19:07

Most people manage to get through life without getting a single point. It is a choice you make!!

2.7 million people currently have penalty points on their licence with just over 2 million convictions for speeding last year.

CornishTiger · 24/07/2022 19:08

Can people stop piling on the OP. She is obviously highly distressed and struggling.

@MakeMineALarge1 breathe. You are worrying about something you can’t control now. Be the best driver you can be now and if you get any more deal with it IF it happens.

Worrying now makes you deal with unnecessary distress. It might not happen.

ladydimitrescu · 24/07/2022 19:08

If you know you've done it a few times and are expecting more letters - I'm not sure what you want anyone to say?
I highly doubt you'll get out of it if you have got more points on the way, and if you lose your license, then you've lost it because you're a danger to others and shouldn't be driving.
Lesson well learnt, just be glad you've not killed anyone. That would actually be worst case scenario, then you really would be sat being sick.
Worrying about it won't change the outcome in any way. Maybe you'll be more careful now.

dustandroses · 24/07/2022 19:12

Are you fit to drive?

6 points didn’t stop you speeding, 9 might, if not you will get 12 and lose your licence, maybe your job and your home.

How sick would you feel if you hit someone on an empty road?

3 can happen to anyone 9 is negligent and reckless.

Stop rushing about and make more time and take more care.

Funnyfive · 24/07/2022 19:14

Look you’ve had a bit of a shock and I can totally understand your panic as I’d be the same. Try to work through your worry and remember you’ve got time to put it right, even if you’ve been caught again in the last week that’s only 9 points so you’ve still got a chance to start driving carefully to stop it going up to 12.

And, whilst it was a few years ago, I know someone who lost their licence for going over 12 points but it was only for two weeks! They went on holiday and came back with a full licence with no points. Sure the insurance is really expensive now but they still have their licence.

DuarPorte · 24/07/2022 19:14

MakeMineALarge1 · 24/07/2022 18:16

There is literally only me on the road at that time

Must be a wind up.

May I ask: do you believe that the law - the actual law - is contingent on how many people may or may not be around at the time of an offence?

do say.

bluegardenflowers · 24/07/2022 19:16

Use your phone as a sat nav or get a good sat nav as they tell you when there are cameras in the 30 mph (etc) zone. Siri warns me to 'mind my speed'! If it's a regular journey why don't you know the speed limits?

MakeMineALarge1 · 24/07/2022 19:16

I drive every day I go from motorway to a roads. The road I've been caught on is an average speed road.
It used to be 70 but now goes from 50 to 30 or 50 to 40.
I haven't slowed down quick enough from the 50 zone.

OK :) I will stop saying she was naughty. Bless you OP. You clearly didn't understand the rules properly and unwittingly broke them (several times). And of course with regards to your transgressions over the speed limit, the powers that be will clearly make an exception in your case and cancel the fine because of your lack of understanding... I hope you will now sleep well.. :)
