Feeling so bloody stupid and angry at myself, I have 3 points, just got another notice through, doing 47 in a 40 - the previous limit was 50 - I didn't slow down in time, but what happens next what if this week I have been stupid as well, I am scared to open any letters

Actually @VeniVidiWeeWee I'm hoping perhaps you didn't read her posts properly, as I genuinely can't conceive of someone being such an utter twat as to deliberately post like that. If you haven't read properly you may want to apologise for your insensitivity, but if you did read them properly then post like that, what the fuck is wrong with you?!

dontdrinkanddriveok · 25/07/2022 19:12

@BellaLab I am so so so sorry. There are just no words.

And @VeniVidiWeeWee *DFOD.

And then, fuck off a little bit further, all the way to fuck offerton. *

If you cannot manage to drive, keep an eye on your speed AND check the road ahead for hazards, then you shouldn't be driving. Simples.

@Tyrtle it's 5 a day and not all caused by speeding. I know what the OP has done is wrong but please don't just make up statistics to support your point. The true stats are bad enough. The charity Brake has done a lot of work of highlighting the stats of deaths and injuries on roads if anyone wants to understand.

ivykaty44 · 25/07/2022 20:59

Can't afford to buy a brand new car and I don't understand how a limiter works on a variable limit road.

was trying to suggest a solution to your problem, by giving you more than one option and price - www.u-pull-it.co.uk/news/driving/what-speed-limiter-and-how-will-it-affect-your-car here is the answer to your question on how it works

@user1471457751 I didn’t make anything up?? I was interested after reading the thread so looked up more about speeding, and when I read that fact I thought it was worth sharing with the OP.

I’ve attached the screenshot. (On further reading that’s the USA stats, not UK, which is where the 5 not 30 difference lies. 5 is still an appalling number.)

OP if you do get another ticket and become a 'totter' I.e you've got enough points to lose your license you can go to the magistrates court and be represented for free by the duty solicitor. S/he can then argue 'special reasons' on your behalf as to why you should not be disqualified. These are usually only successful if you being disqualified would harm other people - ie you wouldn't be able to drive elderly parents or work which would then make your child homeless

MakeMineALarge1 · 28/07/2022 13:13

Thank you @legalseagull

Nonsense. You don’t get duty for motoring

legalseagull · 28/07/2022 14:50

@KarlWrenbury I am a duty solicitor. You can when there's a risk of disqualification.

MakeMineALarge1 · 28/07/2022 15:30

Ok just to be clear, I am not on 12 points, I am on 6.

I have bought a device that shows my MPH digitally and this thread has given me the kick up the arse I deserve

For the sake of me seeking information, if in the event I did get to 12 what happens - would I be arrested - how soon would it get to court?

OP posts:
MakeMineALarge1 · 28/07/2022 15:31

@legalseagull can you help with the above? I am happy for you to PM me. like I said I am not on 12 points I am not asking for legal advice, just interested in the procedure

OP posts:
legalseagull · 28/07/2022 16:05

If you get to the point where you're going to reach 12 active points the matter will be dealt with at court. You'll eventually receive a summons.

legalseagull · 28/07/2022 16:05

You won't be arrested!

Shade17 · 30/07/2022 19:22

NoSquirrels · 24/07/2022 18:44

If you were doing 47 in a 40 you won’t be eligible. It’s usually capped at 44/45.

Just slow down in future.

That’s not correct. At 44/45mph it’s rare that any action will be taken at all. A speed awareness course will normally be offered for speeds up to 53mph. If you’ve not done a course in the past 3 years then you should be offered one, unless you’re in Scotland?

Seriously OP keep calm and work on your observation. Always be aware of the limit and keep your eyes peeled for cameras. Use an app like Waze, especially if you have Apple CarPlay - good for locating both fixed and mobile camera sites as well as displaying the current limit.
