continuing on from the last thread which morphed from a discussion about antisemitism to tracking it globally.

I’ve probably missed people out

to start off with something positive - this was a few yeshiva students response to antisemitism ❤️🕎

“Three Jewish college students from NJ were dancing at Denver International Airport. They said they were motivated to do this after the mass shooting in Australia: “We will not be scared or give in to the darkness, we will only add more and more light.” Happy Hanukkah!”

they’re playing my favourite zusha chanuka song, and one of them looks like DHs nephew who lives in America! Had to do a double take and check it wasn’t him!😆

But this is what i don't really get. His wife is Jewish, his children are being brought up as Jewish.

He must have some sort of moral compass about it, surely. DH says he's is just terrified of the muslim vote.

That's certainly the impression he gives (about losing the muslim vote).

This pandering to a voter group that may not even really exist (in terms of being a unified voter bloc) is dividing the whole country into factions based on ethnicity and a lot of the rhetoric online has turned really nasty (deport them all etc.).

Starmer is playing with something very dangerous and I don't get the impression he or any of the other MPs are intelligent enough to understand the implications of their words and actions.

I’m pretty much lost for words now

Likewise.
A Jewish friend sent me a link to the BBC story about today's events.
It was so hard to find anything to say in reply. Everything I typed felt trite, or repetitive, or inadequate, or all three.

I'm just so angry at our completely ineffective government. They should have been so much harder on Islamist extremists a long, long, time ago.

OrangeAxolotyl · 29/04/2026 22:41

Those marches. Every weekend.
Inflammatory, crude, offensive, rabble rousing.
Why were they allowed?

InertBird · 29/04/2026 23:19

I just can't find the words after today, utter despair at the lack of any meaningful action to stand up to this avalanche of Jew hate we are seeing. There is no moral leadership coming from our government and no courage to tackle the causes of the problem. How on earth does Keir Starmer square this with being married to a Jewish woman? I just don't understand.

Yes. Yes this.

Nicole Lampert shared this on FB today. It just about sums up the situation.

PurpleThistle7 · 30/04/2026 20:50

I think I posted about this on the wrong thread but I had my long-awaited meeting with central HR after filing multiple complaints about the atmosphere at work and the University union insta reposting calls for the 'student intifada' and was basically told the best thing they could suggest was to have a flexible working situation so I never had to come to work when there were triggering events happening. It makes me more and more angry the more I think about it. My workplace is going through a restructuring and I cannot imagine that disappearing for days and weeks at a time will help me keep my job or stay informed so isn't this just punishing me twice over? I have cycled from exhausted to sad to frightened to angry throughout the last couple of days but this has really pushed me over the edge.

I think I'll file some more complaints now. Maybe the tide is turning.

OrangeAxolotyl · 30/04/2026 20:54

I'm sorry to hear that, @PurpleThistle7 . It must be exhausting.
I do think you should hang in there - the tide is definitely turning, more and more people are realising that antisemitism is a very serious problem now.
I know there are ignorant, offensive and bigoted people on other threads, 🙄 but they're being challenged more now, and just look like idiots with poor understanding. I think that's a reflection of how things are changing
Good luck 💐

ErroltheSwampDragon · 30/04/2026 21:01

@PurpleThistle7 really sorry you're going through that. It must be exhausting Their response is pathetic (and sounds pretty illegal), are you able to challenge them?

Perhaps if you spell out that their response to discrimation against someone because of their religion, is to further isolate that person while tolerating the discrimination in writing will give them (or their legal team) a kick up the arse?

EdithStourton · 30/04/2026 21:40

I'm sorry, @PurpleThistle7, that's awful.

the University union insta reposting calls for the 'student intifada'
And the very same people who did those reposts would deny that they're in any way responsible for the current atmosphere in which blatant, open, antisemitism is seeing arson attacks on Jewish targets and the stabbing of men in the street because they are Jews.

Yes, it's shocking, isn't it?

PurpleThistle7 · 30/04/2026 22:00

Sometimes I think I’m imagining it and I go back to check. Yup. Still there.

OrangeAxolotyl · 30/04/2026 22:03

How on earth is this allowed? Seriously?
I would suggest that's incitement to violence, surely?

Diamond82 · 30/04/2026 22:16

@PurpleThistle7 I’m so sorry you’ve been going through this at your workplace. Definitely agree the tide may be turning and I think there could be some people who no longer want to be associated with the ‘pro palestine’ movement because it’s becoming obvious what it really leads to.

OrangeAxolotyl · 01/05/2026 07:24

@PurpleThistle7 - the Met Chief has just been on BBC news saying that if anyone chants or promotes "Globalise the Intifada" arrests can be made.
I hope that things will start to change for you (and others).

ChristmasMantleStatue · 01/05/2026 11:01

I'm hoping things are changing too. There is some really strong work being done on some of the Polanski threads by posters who are not Jewish. People are saying they won't stay silent anymore.

NotAtMyAge · 01/05/2026 22:23

Janice Turner in her Times column has the measure of Zack Polanski.

Be afraid, be very afraid of disingenuous Zack Polanski

The Greens are scary. Look at the Deputy. And why do they have so many Islamic fundamentalists in their party standing for election? Can they really be so into the climate and the environment? No, it's because they and their ilk are welcomed there.

Pretty shocking when you read it all together. Do some people really think the Greens still care about the environment?
