Antisemitism

I read the posts on here with interest and often the subject of anti semitism comes up. I was brought up in a town in the South East. My mum gave me a book about Anne Frank when I was around 8 and I can remember asking ' what is a Jew?' as I had never met one. When I was about 14 a girl from northern Israel came to my school and I was asked to befriend her and help her settle in. I can remember being fascinated about her life in a Kibbutz and she used to show me
Hebrew writing. I don't recall ever hearing anything anti semitic about her or her brother as the only two Jewish kids - to my knowledge in the school. I also remember in my twenties encountering a group of lads from North London - white something and them having an absolute hatred for Jewish people. I can remember feeling utterly shocked as I'd never heard anti Jewish speak prior to this. Reading some of the recent posts on here it has made me wonder wherever there are pockets in the Uk with Jewish communities that experience antisemitism where the rest of the UK it does not occur as people simply have never met a Jewish person just their life- to their knowledge.Where I live I have only met 4 Jewish people in the Uk in my life and I am 47. The most Jewish people I have met were in Israel when I visited in 2000.

But according to some the students are brave little things. Just been reading up on it. I hadn't realised he'd been blocked, that's awful. I'm finding it all pretty chilling to be honest.

0palfrootee · 23/04/2024 22:49

I saw that video on X earlier, so creepy, like a cult.

stomachamelon · 23/04/2024 23:01

@Hélène79 @25milesfromhome the poster has deregged so the thread has been taken down.

Hélène79 · 23/04/2024 23:10

@stomachamelon Shame - would have been good for the jew-bashing to have been left up in all its undignified glory. I don't like when posts are deleted either - they should just slap on some kind of 'reader context' warning label like they do on X.

beethecrackon24995 · 24/04/2024 09:55

I'm sick of non Jews saying there isn't any antisemitism because they haven't experienced any. I mean, WTAF. The same people would no doubt rush to the defence of any other minority without question but question constantly as to whether or not something is antisemitic. I had a nose on the Muslim thread, as have some of them on here. Some are angry because a post was taken down due to someone supposedly from here reporting. Tbh I don't blame them in part, as it should be their space however, I wonder what was written and if it was jew hating? I've read nothing on here that was derogatory/inflammatory about the Muslim community. Nor should I. Its ridiculous. Two community's that are similar, both outsiders. We should be coming together.

CloudyAgain · 24/04/2024 09:59

Agree @beethecrackon24995

TrudyProud · 24/04/2024 14:27

@25milesfromhome it's a shame they took the thread down because it would be useful to see what is being classed as antisemitism. When I went to it it looked like lots of people supporting OP and Israeli government while others asked questions about her thoughts re what's happening to Palestinian civilians, what prompted her to move to Israel if (her words) she is left leaning etc.

I can understand MN stopping posting but deleting a thread just leaves room for revisionist history that nobody can prove/disprove because the posts aren’t visible

what is being classed as antisemitism - meaning your awful deleted posts?

stomachamelon · 24/04/2024 16:17

@TrudyProud I don't know what you mean by that?

I've been accused of being responsible for post deletions before, when it wasn't me. I don't understand how anyone can possibly claim to know who reported a post, much less which other boards they are posting on!

TrudyProud · 24/04/2024 19:34

@oharobot I don't think I said anything antisemitic - happy to be corrected though. Please let me know what I said that you think was anti antisemitism

@stomachamelon I mean mn delete threads and people don't know /remember what was said then go to their various pockets of mn relaying a message similar to chinese whispers.. it serves nobody imho

I'm not repeating a deleted comment. The thread was deleted so yoy decided to take your argument here which is sad.

TrudyProud · 24/04/2024 19:51

It's a shame you think this is an argument. Guess this is why mn is reluctant to have the various subgroups/chats but given you think it's an argument/ want to make an argument it's best to end it here.

@TrudyProud As you know, we control the banks, the media, the internet and Mumsnet so I simply made them delete the entire thread so I could control the narrative.

We also control time but we're a humble folk so we tend to keep schtum about it.

CloudyAgain · 24/04/2024 19:57

I was lurking on that thread @TrudyProud and you were definitely making anti semitic comments. Its a shame that its been deleted but i recall your approach and attitude. As do others clearly.

I agree it is best if you left it here.

EllaDisenchanted · 23/04/2024 22:11

What scares me is how blatant and open it is, and yet the denial continues. They literally call for 10000 October 7ths, and the Jewish professor is blocked from entering campus?

I've been catching up on the footage today, watching that level of antisemitism being normalised across US campuses under the umbrella of activism is insane.

There were some awful and hurtful antisemitic comments on that thread. If there are Jewish people here saying that, I'm not sure why someone wouldn't believe them. Also the deletion message says it was deleted because the OP deregged so I think it's fair to assume that's the reason, rather than because of some weird plotting by posters on here.

Eta that if I said something to a person of another race and they told me what I'd said was hurtful/ racist/ offensive, I'd be horrified and want to to make amends and make sure I didn't do it again. I definitely wouldn't start telling them they were wrong.

The comments and goading by that poster were revolting. And turning up on this board to 'follow-up' the conversation isn't much better to be honest.

Indeed. It takes a certain type of person to do that.

Hélène79 · 24/04/2024 21:19

Did anyone see Naomi Klein's piece in the Guardian today? I used to really admire her, although didn't always agree with her, but I'm quite shocked at how inflammatory it is. Just trope after trope.

Kasperber · 24/04/2024 22:15

We seek to liberate Judaism from an ethnostate that wants Jews to be perennially afraid, that wants our children to be afraid, that wants us to believe the world is against us so that we go running to its fortress and beneath its iron dome, or at least keep the weapons and donations flowing.

I did read the Guardian piece Helene79

I don’t get Naomi Klein’s point above. We have been slaughtered and driven out of too many countries to count for centuries. It’s not just in Israel that we need ‘fortresses’ - every shul, Jewish school, nursery, housing complex and cemetery around the world has to be guarded, to try prevent physical attacks, verbal abuse and desecration. Every ‘openly Jewish person pretty much everywhere’ is provoking antisemitism by existing . We have never been safe anywhere.

Hélène79 · 24/04/2024 23:42

She's denying centuries of Jewish history, centuries of antisemitic hate and centuries of Jewish fear, and basically lived Jewish experience. And that somehow we've been been hypnotised by the evil Zionist. It's bizarre and above all, hugely irresponsible. She's completely lost herself now after years of pandering to extreme anti-Zionists and cranks. She knows what she's doing and it's massively ego-driven.

Kasperber · 25/04/2024 00:25

Helene79. I couldn’t agree with your post more. Such a skewed opinion that manages to completely forget or disregard many centuries of antisemitism around the globe.
