Antisemitism

bubbleandsqueak1976 · 25/03/2024 19:22

I read the posts on here with interest and often the subject of anti semitism comes up. I was brought up in a town in the South East. My mum gave me a book about Anne Frank when I was around 8 and I can remember asking ' what is a Jew?' as I had never met one. When I was about 14 a girl from northern Israel came to my school and I was asked to befriend her and help her settle in. I can remember being fascinated about her life in a Kibbutz and she used to show me
Hebrew writing. I don't recall ever hearing anything anti semitic about her or her brother as the only two Jewish kids - to my knowledge in the school. I also remember in my twenties encountering a group of lads from North London - white something and them having an absolute hatred for Jewish people. I can remember feeling utterly shocked as I'd never heard anti Jewish speak prior to this. Reading some of the recent posts on here it has made me wonder wherever there are pockets in the Uk with Jewish communities that experience antisemitism where the rest of the UK it does not occur as people simply have never met a Jewish person just their life- to their knowledge.Where I live I have only met 4 Jewish people in the Uk in my life and I am 47. The most Jewish people I have met were in Israel when I visited in 2000.

We’re on the 5th thread now although they are fairly quiet these days .

Not much to say when it doesn't get better, I suppose, it's the same group of posters every time, despite so many deletions.

EllaDisenchanted · 15/12/2025 22:00

I think it’s basically just a Jewish chat thread now tbh. How many of us are still on the citme threads at this point anyway? Not many I reckon.

Sewingaddict · 15/12/2025 21:42

I've deleted my account a couple of times at this point and come back, due to just utter rage, to basically get me to step away from the situation, i don't know why I keep coming back, its so fucking depressing. (I was originally the poster who showed my chickens on the mnhq could do better threads)

It must be soul destroying.

Diamond82 · 15/12/2025 22:08

I hardly ever look at the CITME boards anymore. On the odd occasion where I hold some hope that things could have improved but then I go on and realise it’s worse than ever. I had to stop myself reading through the threads today and yesterday. It’s not worth the stress of it. I do appreciate the poster who made the thread on antisemitism with the definition attached, I didn’t let myself read beyond the first page which was very positive. I’m sure it turned out how they always do in the end.

Quite a few years ago I read a few books that were part of the ‘Jessie Drake’ series which featured an LAPD detective who discovers her Jewish roots.

I love crime novels (anything from Agatha Christie to modern ones) and I devoured the Jessie Drake ones too.

They were written by Rochelle Majer Krich who actually passed away earlier this year.

May she rest in peace.

I've never rven heard of these! Might give them a go.

I'll check them out too!

Thanks @LucyWestenra for your support. It means alot to see people who understand.

My parents are in Melbourne (in one of the outer suburbs) and my dad sent me a photo of all the flowers that have been laid at the door of their synagogue. At my parents favourite cafe the owner came over and pulled up a chair and offered condolences and would not let them pay for their coffee and cake. At times when you feel so under siege, so hurt, so enraged, those little gestures mean the world.

Small in the grand scheme of things right now, but a card with free Palestine handwritten on it was tucked into chanuka pyjamas from Bloomingdale’s.

much more seriously, the horrific shooting in Brown University was in a review session for a Jewish professor’s class. It is not yet known what the killer’s motive was, but I’d say it’s suspect, as the professor Rachel Freiberg Rachel Friedberg, is also the faculty associate of the Judaic studies program. Can not say for certain if it was motivated by antisemitism at this point, it could be coincidental.

and lastly, “Police in Southern California are investigating a suspected antisemitic drive-by shooting at a Jewish family’s home in Redlands that was visibly decorated for Hanukkah
The incident occurred over the weekend, shortly after the family returned home from dinner. According to the homeowner, a man sitting in a nearby parked car shouted antisemitic abuse as the family entered the house. Minutes later, the vehicle drove past the residence, and the driver fired multiple projectiles toward the home.
The homeowner, Jonpaul Sione Yohanan Cohen, said his home security camera recorded the attack. He said the footage shows the suspect firing about 20 rounds from the car while shouting explicit antisemitic slurs, including “f* the Jews.”
Several projectiles struck the house and nearby Hanukkah decorations. No one inside the home was injured.”

A @Bloomingdales customer orders Hanukkah pajamas for his girlfriend. Upon opening the gift, she finds “Free Palestine” written on a Bloomingdales card. The employee responsible does not belong in a customer oriented field.

I'm not even Jewish and I can't cope with CITME. I was on one of the Bondi threads and it was depressing and exasperating.

Apprently, it's understandable that two men take pot shots at Jews because Gaza.

I wish people would look at their thought processes a bit more closely.

My love and sympathy to you all.

Sewingaddict · 16/12/2025 09:50

I don’t do the citme, im pretty sure I have it hidden, but it seeps out to elsewhere on the boards even so.
I need to put down the bondi threads, like you said it’s upsetting, depressing and it’s pigeon chess

Humdingerydoo · 16/12/2025 13:09

Reading more about Matilda and how her Ukrainian parents named her that because she was their first Australian child, and they couldn't think of a more Aussie name than that. They were so proud to be Australian. So happy. They thought they were safe. They really thought they'd finally managed to keep their family safe.
And now their daughter is dead.
It has completely broken me. Her poor, poor family. I can't imagine what they must be going through. I don't want to imagine what they're going through.

Matilda, forever 10 years old 💔

LucyWestenra · 16/12/2025 14:13

Hello all.

I have started reading through the ‘reactions to Bondi Beach attack/ racism’ thread in AIBU (I hadn’t seen that thread before I posted mine yesterday).

Anyway, I’m currently on page 15 and I see that poster ‘nomas’ (who was rather obnoxious to me when I posted under my previous name) is just as awful as ever. As are many others.

Some disgusting posts on there and I’m only halfway through.

Yes, her beautiful little happy face. So happy with her face paint and patting the pygmy goat at the petting zoo. Just taken moments before. I can't get her shining smile out of my mind.

It kind of restores your faith in humanity a bit.

Heartbreaking 💔

And of course people on the other thread had to mention Palestinian children dying.

Just why?

Diamond82 · 16/12/2025 15:27

Thank you for the updates @EllaDisenchanted
The world feels bleak today. I also can’t stop thinking about Matilda and the other victims.
I stupidly read some social media comments, seems like there’s a movement to make people believe the killers were actually Jewish ex IDF soldiers.

Lordofthewing · 16/12/2025 16:25

I hope I’m not interrupting, I have posted before a while ago under my other username but I wanted to write a message here again to send my love, support and solidarity to our Jewish communities around the world.
I am not Jewish but I am utterly heartbroken at seeing how scared my uni students are, how useless our leadership was in protecting them, and seeing scenes of antisemitism play out across the world.
my Asian parents were expelled from Uganda decades ago and my mother always says have your passport ready to go as you never know when you will need to leave. upon reading the Bondi threads l saw jewish posters commented that they had grandparents and great-grandparents who would also pass down this advice to them.
i am so sorry that this is life for you in this day and age, it’s really not acceptable.

I'm getting incredibly stressed by the smeary lines he'll be leaving behind! I feel like there's definitely some kind of accurate symbolism in it though. Something to do with them making things a lot worse than they were to begin with due to their interference.

Either way, fucking bonkers.
