Hi - I couldn’t find a thread but just wondered if anyone else was expecting in 2026 post ivf? I’m due end of Feb so just wanting any similar ladies to chat with!

@lemonwrighty Sounds horrid. Is it linked to acid reflex or bloating maybe? Poor you! I hope it calms.

magpie234 · 01/10/2025 23:27

I’m absolutely gagging to come off my progesterone pessaries. When do you all come off yours? My clinic has me on 3x 400mg a day (seems a lot!) until the 12-week mark. I’m sure they’re making my symptoms a lot worse and can’t wait to see if they improve once I stop. Tempted to get a blood test to check the levels as I have a feeling they are sky high and maybe my dose could be lowered given am 10 weeks on Friday.

confused2025 · 02/10/2025 04:33

@magpie234my clinic said that I could come off at week 8 as I didn’t have any bleeds but I was anxious to do this. I stayed on until end of week 16 and on week 16 I reduced dosage. I just felt it was a security blanket and was afraid to come off .

Orangewillow · 02/10/2025 07:31

I stayed on progesterone until 14 weeks, I was on 2 x cyclogest and 1 x prontogest injection daily, was pleased to stop though aside from being less constipated I didn't notice much difference in how I felt! Thr worst of the nausea eased for me at about 12 weeks

Timetotryagain · 02/10/2025 07:41

@magpie234 i am just about to finish mine at 16 weeks cant wait!!!!! I did till 16 weeks in my last pregnancy too

Timetotryagain · 02/10/2025 07:56

P.s good luck @SamVan

confused2025 · 02/10/2025 08:14

Yes good luck @SamVan we’re all rooting for you x

SamVan · 02/10/2025 11:15

@lemonwrighty @confused2025 @magpie234 @Timetotryagain Thanks very much all! The scan today went well. He's happily swimming away and everything was normal that they could see. I am so relieved <3 Just praying this continues.

On the progesterone I was meant to have stopped by now but due to the bleeding I've been told to continue (not sure for how much longer) and then wean off slowly. It's interesting how different each clinic is on dosage and timing of supplementation.

confused2025 · 02/10/2025 11:16

@SamVan that’s so good to hear 💙 I think keep on it for as long as you can x

Strawberrryfields · 02/10/2025 11:25

Oh that’s great news @SamVan brill that he’s doing so well and hope you can breathe a sigh of relief!
I’m on progesterone till 16wks, I think that’s the guidance if you’ve had bleeding. I’ve been weaning it down from 12 weeks as was on a high dose.

magpie234 · 02/10/2025 12:36

@SamVan So relieved for you! Relief is absolutely the best emotion is it not? It must have been so special seeing him looking so happy.

I am going to stick with my progesterone pessaries till 12 weeks as am definitely too anxious not to follow their advice. I just suspect my levels are really high as I did a natural modified FET meaning I ovulated and have a corpus luteum so will also have been producing my own progesterone all this time. Not had any bleeding yet touch wood but better safe than sorry so will suck it up for a couple more weeks.

lemons44 · 02/10/2025 14:39

So relieved for you @SamVan that must have been a huge worry!!

I started weening progesterone from 12 weeks and stopped at almost 15 weeks. Was supposed to be 14 weeks but I took an extra 6 days worth as I had period type cramps which I posted about here at the time.

Currently 15+ 3 and I have been progesterone free for about 5 days and I think my bloating has gone down a bit.

I actually have a scan tonight as have felt my anxiety creeping up again 😩😬

I’m having a few gynae issues at the moment which I don’t know if they are cause by the pregnancy or other things. Have had tests for thrush/BV which have come back clear and just had a test for UTIs this morning which I am waiting results for.

lemonwrighty · 02/10/2025 16:25

@magpie234i don’t think it is related to acid reflux or bloating because I don’t have any issues in that department. It’s what I feel is common back and rib pains, I’m just putting it down to the baby getting bigger so my organs are being squashed along with everything else within my insides 😂 with the progesterones I am still actually on mine 😬 I’ve got enough to take me through to 23 weeks which I will stop then because im forgetting to take it more and more now. I was meant to stop at 17 weeks but at my 16 week consultant appointment they advise me to carry on until 20 weeks due to some high risk factor so they’ll reassess me next week at my next appointment and I’ll ask if I can come off them then because I really can’t be bothered taking them. I’ve been on them egg collection!!

@samvanso glad everything went well for you today!! ☺️

SamVan · 02/10/2025 17:04

@Strawberrryfields that's good to know! I'll expect to be on it till 16 weeks then.

@magpie234 Thank you, yes relief is just the best. The last time I felt this way was probably at the first scan. Can't wait for him to actually be safely in my arms! I also did a natural modified btw and my protocol was to stop progesterone at 12 originally.

@lemons44 Good luck for your scan tonight! Honestly, it's so worth it and don't feel guilty at all for wanting assurance. I'm glad you're done with the pessaries at least. The gynae issues sound like a pain. I'm getting swabbed on Monday for thrush and BV too - not sure if the irritation is just cause of the bleeding though. Like we don't have enough on our plate!! It sounds like the pregnancy hormones can make everything else go haywire too. I hope it's not a UTI those are awful :(

@lemonwrighty That is such a long time to be on progesterone. Is it just pessaries or the injections too? I'm so over sticking things in my bum worrying about leakage. I hope you're off it soon! I didn't realise being on until 20 weeks was a thing - what was the reason, if you don't mind sharing?

lemonwrighty · 02/10/2025 18:32

@SamVan no it’s not a problem I’m happy to share. I’ve had a lot of surgery on my uterus as well as positive smear tests (prior to IVF) CIN3, fortunately not cancerous but abnormal so I will have to go back for a smear after the baby’s born. I was also spotting brown blood everyday between 14-16 weeks. So at my 16 week appointment the consultant felt that with the spotting and my previous gynae issues, it puts me at high risk of pre term labour and that I should stay on progesterone (pessaries) until my next appointment which would be when I’m just under 21 weeks. I am over it now though, I’m so much less strict with taking it.

lemons44 · 02/10/2025 20:07

Thanks @SamVan it went well. Phew!

Has anybody else’s symptoms got worse in the second tri? I didn’t have many symptoms in the first trimester, very very mild nausea at times. However since hitting about 12 weeks I’ve felt so much worse. I was sick again this evening 🤢 have felt really tired too.

SamVan · 02/10/2025 20:10

@lemonwrighty im sorry to hear that must have been stressful! But glad you were well monitored and through the risky part now. I didn’t know that progesterone prevented pre term labour until today - that’s another topic for me to read into tonight 😅

@lemons44 yes I’m 12+1 and my nausea has gotten worse in the past week and today was the worst. Gagged so many times today. Sorry to hear you were sick! I think our tummies getting bigger can put more pressure on our stomach. I also wonder if going off all the immune meds has an effect too because pred can reduce nausea.

lemons44 · 02/10/2025 20:14

@SamVan ohhhhh that’s a really good point about the prednisolone I hadn’t thought of that! Yes I’ve been gagging all the time too. Have only been sick twice. Just hoping it eases soon. My thirst has been through the roof too. Have my 16 week midwife appointment next week and going to ask if it’s normal as I’m drinking soo much and peeing for England. Just so thirsty at night time

confused2025 · 03/10/2025 06:36

@lemons44 amazing news. I have also been drinking a lot and lots of trips to the loo esp late at night lol. My morning sickness eases at about 14 weeks but the occasional smell of my folate still puts me over the edge x

FlatWhiteAnyone · 03/10/2025 07:27

Hi all, just catching up with all the messages over last weeks, had to step aside to manage anxiety. I am 12w, NIPT and scan all good, symptoms went down, so feeling a bit like myself. I had my last progesterone injection yesterday and estrogen pills! But progesterone pills will have to take till delivery, have history of 2 preterm birth. They don’t really know if it is my shape of uterus was the reason (which we corrected with the surgery), or cervix, so to be on the safe side said to be on progesterone 😕 it helps to strengthen the cervix.
When did you tell at work? I think soon they will notice..

SamVan · 03/10/2025 09:20

@lemons44 Gagging is awful - it comes without warning too. Often when I'm walking - I've definitely scared a few people on the street with a sudden retching sound..

@FlatWhiteAnyone Welcome back! We are about the same timing - I'm 12+2. I hope your anxiety gets better now you're in second trimester. It's definitely a struggle for people who have done IVF in particular - getting here was already so difficult! I hope the progesterone pills help with preventing another preterm birth - that must have been incredibly stressful.

I'm planning to tell work when I'm 15 weeks. I'm a bit torn because if I tell them later I'm more likely to get paid maternity leave as they will extend my contract. But it does feel quite deceptive and my tummy is already so big I don't think I can hide it much longer. When are you planning to tell?

Strawberrryfields · 03/10/2025 09:46

@SamVan Id definitely wait to tell work in your shoes. Places shouldn’t discriminate but some do so protect yourself and your best interests. You’re still well within the legal limit of when you need to tell them.

SamVan · 03/10/2025 09:49

@Strawberrryfields Yeah I definitely agree with what you say that we need to just do what is best for us. The main benefit of telling them is it'll be easier to explain why I'm not billing as much recently and also I want to get out of some work trips which I'm concerned about. I'm still thinking about it though - I already look very pregnant so they might already suspect.

FlatWhiteAnyone · 03/10/2025 10:03

Thank you @SamVan!We have only 1 day difference (12w1d today). Oh on your case definitely try to push to 15w to tell then, please don’t feel guilty about it! I was thinking to tell next week, as then on holiday abd when back will be too big 🙈 just this all telling stressing me out, I am over 40 with big kids, so they definitely don’t suspect

SamVan · 03/10/2025 12:42

@FlatWhiteAnyone Oh wow congratulations on your baby after a big gap. That's lovely <3 You'll know what to do now. Good idea to just tell them next week - there's no harm if you're on a permanent contract. Do you have particular concerns about telling them earlier?

Curious to know how many kids everyone wants total? I wanted 3 or 4 initially but after all the difficulties even getting this far I'd be grateful to even have 1! I do feel a bit sad whenever I get lapped by people who started trying after us though.
