Hi - I couldn’t find a thread but just wondered if anyone else was expecting in 2026 post ivf? I’m due end of Feb so just wanting any similar ladies to chat with!

@Timetotryagain 14+4 and my nausea had disappeared but the last two days I’ve felt awful all morning, hoping it’s not making a return and I’ve maybe just run myself down being back at the gym 🙈 I have a consultant appointment next week, no idea with it entails though 🤷🏼‍♀️

Timetotryagain · 18/09/2025 12:28

@worldwidetravel2017 oh bless you, a lot on your mind then. Glad that they are keeping a close eye on you!

We have a 16 week scan with the consultant in a few weeks. I wonder if they will tell us the gender at that scan?

I don't think they will here - it varies by trust

We are having a private gender scan early oct

Orangewillow · 18/09/2025 14:14

@Timetotryagain we found out gender at 16 week scan, maybe different hospitals have different policies about this that I don't know about, but they should be able to tell you!

SamVan · 21/09/2025 19:01

For those that don't know, you can find out the gender from your IVF lab (if you've done pgta) after the first scan. We did that and found out we are having a boy before doing NIPT. I do hear boys are more common with IVF. I am embarrassed to admit I had a bit of gender disappointment when I first found out but fully on board with the idea now and looking forward to welcoming my boy :)

Orangewillow · 21/09/2025 19:08

@SamVan congrats on your boy! I can understand that feeling, I felt a bit funny finding out we are having a boy initially, I think a lot because the baby we lost to tfmr was a boy, I'd also love a girl at some point (one of each would be ideal, we shall see!) But now I am on board and excited

I was actually just googling earlier about boys being more common in ivf, sounds like it is a thing, but I read girls slightly more likely through ICSI... don't think there's a lot in it though

SamVan · 21/09/2025 19:13

@OrangeBlossom91 Thank you, and congratulations on yours too! I don’t know why I was expecting a girl but I never pictured a son. I never had any brothers or interaction with boys under my teens really so having a boy feels a bit scary! I also only like girly things so I worried about not having anything in common with him. Also I was all ready to teach a girl how to be careful of boys and men but have no idea how ensure a boy doesn’t get into that Andrew Tate bullshit But I’ve been looking at boy clothes and listening to pod casts on raising boys and I’m sure we will find things to do together and work it all out. I would love at least one girl, but we’ll see. In a way it’s less pressure having a boy as I have less expectations of things we’ll do together. Also I remind myself my favorite person who I chose to spend my life with is a boy so it can’t be that bad. Sorry for the stream of consciousness 😅

Are you in the UK? They told me they werent allowed to tell us the sex and that they didnt collect it (we did pgta)

Congrats on your boy!

SamVan · 21/09/2025 20:54

@Timetotryagain yes I am in the uk. the clinic will need to contact the testing lab - Juno for example, to get it. The clinic doesn’t have it. They can’t get it until after a successful scan.

@SamVan Oh wow i will call tomorrow to see whether thats possible! Would save me the hassle of a private scan haha!

confused2025 · 21/09/2025 20:57

congrats @SamVan. There does seem to be a lot of boys due on this thread 💙 I have my 20 week scan on Friday and not sure if we will find out. I think it’s a boy and my OH thinks it’s a girl x

magpie234 · 21/09/2025 21:56

Interested by the thing about boys being more common with ivf! Not heard that before. I would be happy with either but would also ideally love one of each. I liked the family dynamic with me and my younger brother so would love the same I guess.

Out of interest those on here who know the sex are you having a boy or a girl? Not sure how to do a poll if that’s an option?

Timetotryagain · 21/09/2025 22:09

@magpie234 pretty sure everyone who knows is having a boy but i think only 3 or 4 ladies know so far. Cant wait to finfld out mine :D

@confused2025 we talked about having a suprise but decided i am too impatient haha

SamVan · 21/09/2025 22:15

Thanks for the congrats everyone! I am Beth excited just bought some wool today for my husband’s Nan to knit him some jumpers.

@magpie234 anecdotally it definitely seems like there are way more boys in ivf. My downstairs neighbours had 3 via ivf all boys and most of the ivf babies I know are boys. The stats suggest it isn’t that far apart though - something like 55% boys so really almost 50/50 chance of each!

magpie234 · 22/09/2025 14:09

@SamVan So cute about her knitting him some baby jumpers… bet she is so excited too!

Just back from my 2nd scan at 8+3 and all is still looking good so far so a nice bit of a relief albeit temporarily! Strong heartbeat and measuring right on time. First midwife appointment tomo. I wish I could stop this sense of waiting for the other shoe to drop and enjoy being preg more… but a bad history with scans means my brain is just a bit effed unfortunately 😒. Still… today I am pregnant so will try and allow myself a little bit of excitement and happiness.

lemons44 · 22/09/2025 17:11

@SamVan congratulations!! 💙

@magpie234so glad your scan went well. I totally get it as I am worrying at every single stage. I think there are three of us now who know the gender. Myself, @Orangewillow and @SamVan and we are basically growing a future boy band 🤣💙💙💙 3 boys. Unless I have missed anyone? Sorry if I have.

I read that day 5 embryos are more likely to be boys as they grow faster… And day 6 more likely to be girls. Not sure if that’s true but my boy is a day 5.

SamVan · 22/09/2025 17:17

@lemons44 Mine was a day 6 so i thought it might be a girl 😅 how are you preparing for a boy? I’ve been reading up on the differences and seems like there’s not many when they are young except you’re more likely to get peed on 😂 I still want to buy him some florals. Is there such a thing as boy florals.

@magpie234 congrats on your scan! It’s so so hard i hope it gets better with time for you! As the chances go down it’s easier to tell your irrational brain that it’s sooooo unlikely anything is wrong. I still worry a lot though and have a lot of scans to reduce the panic. Seeing him waving at us and wiggling about provides temporary relief! I hope once we can feel the kicks it’ll be better. But there’ll always be anxiety about abnormal nipt or scans etc etc etc. I wish we could put a glass panel into our tummy and watch them all day 😂

Day 4 blastocyst here

lemonwrighty · 22/09/2025 20:48

Hey ladies. I’m interested in everyone’s opinion on a friend of mine having a baby shower for her 2nd baby? Would you go to it if you’re expected to contribute to the venue, the decorations plus buy gifts? It’s also high tea themed so we’re also expected to pay for ourselves plus the mother, her last baby shower was 2 years ago.

magpie234 · 22/09/2025 20:54

@lemonwrighty Not unless she was a very good friend and even then I’d be like 🙄. I certainly won’t be having a baby shower. I really don’t expect anyone bar maybe close family and a few very good friends to care about me hopefully reproducing tbh let alone spend money on my choice to! But I appreciate fertility struggles have made me a lot more cynical…

lemonwrighty · 22/09/2025 21:16

@magpie234 I think just like you. When I got the message from her friend organising it, I just thought ffs you only just had a baby shower! We haven’t spoken for a year, only started speaking recently because I announced my pregnancy (she was upset I didn’t tell her earlier) and we’re due 3 weeks apart.

Timetotryagain · 22/09/2025 21:36

@lemonwrighty this is my 2nd and no way would i be doing a fancy baby shower like that (not for my first never mind my second haha)

So i would probs say no!

@worldwidetravel2017 never heard if a day 4 before it must have grown fast :D

lemonwrighty · 22/09/2025 22:26

@Timetotryagain thank you. I think I will say no. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t being unreasonable or stingy. I think it’s coming out near to £90 pp so far (that’s if people don’t drop out)

Timetotryagain · 22/09/2025 22:45

@lemonwrighty 90!!! Thats like a blinking hen party cost!!

confused2025 · 23/09/2025 04:55

@lemonwrighty I don’t know if it’s the IVF journey, but baby showers personally make me feel uncomfortable. I think this is a bit OTT and unless it was a very close friend, I wouldn’t go. I’m not planning to have one. I don’t even plan on making a big social media announcement. If we do find out gender, I might just do a small gender reveal for immediate family (mostly for my niece and nephew who are v excited) and it would be v basic.

Orangewillow · 23/09/2025 08:17

I'm not sure how I feel about baby showers either... to be fair my friends who've had something have done a dinner or low key pub trip, more of a gathering pre baby, rather than the full baby shower shebang, and I always thought I'd like to do something similar but it still feels a bit like tempting fate (wish I didn't still feel like that!) You're quite within your rights to a) not feel like you want to go to a big ott baby shower at all b) spend a hunk of cash on it!
