BFP after IVF: 2025

Xwx1010 · 24/03/2025 18:31

Wondering if anyone else has had a BFN after IVF in the past few months? Guessing if so, most would be due October / November / December.

I just can’t get into the due month groups on the main pregnancy page as my headspace is so different after struggling with infertility back to back losses and IVF.

I’m 7weeks after 5AA transfer in February and have had 1 MMC and 2 ectopics. Due date is 11th November (if I make it that far). No children.

If anyone wants to join this thread please do! 💚

@PrincessofLiechtenstein thanks, I’m working like 50hrs this week so I’m afraid not but hopefully I can rest a bit soon! Going abroad end of the month so that’ll be nice
good luck on your scan, I just got my letter today too, mines the 21st 😊
Ive been feeling quite a bit of movement but sometimes I go hours without, sometimes it feels quite constant and sometimes it feels much stronger as well! Hoping it gets more regular soon 🤞🏻

How is everyone?

This heat isn’t much fun.

Has anyone started looking at baby monitors? I’ve started doing research and wow it’s a minefield!!

PrincessofLiechtenstein · 18/07/2025 13:17

It’s far too hot isn’t it! I’m looking forward to the rain tomorrow!

We haven’t started looking at baby monitors much yet @LincolnshireHollyhockAlthough I want the one that tells you if they are breathing, but DH thinks it will just cause more anxiety by falling off and giving false alarms!

I have been looking at travel systems though and that also seems like a minefield. And they are so expensive! Makes it feel very high stakes!

Hope everyone is managing ok? Any more scans or news from anyone?

captainsmal · 19/07/2025 09:28

@PrincessofLiechtenstein @LincolnshireHollyhock this heat is awful!!
I haven’t looked at baby monitors, not sure if we’re gonna get one tbh as she’ll be sleeping in the room with us anyway and during the daytime I’ll have a moses basket or something downstairs so I’ll always be quite near. We’re really lucky that both our sisters have recently had babies so we’ve got the pram, cot and everything as hand me downs which saves us hundreds!

I have my 20wk scan Monday when I’m almost 21 weeks. What’s everyone feeling now with kicks and stuff? I think mine are definitely getting stronger, sometimes it’s still more of a flutter but recently I’ve had a lot of big thumps and stuff but I still can’t tell what’s an arm or a leg etc 😅

PrincessofLiechtenstein · 22/07/2025 18:56

I still can’t really tell what’s what with the kicks @captainsmalwhat I’m finding strangest is that I can tell when he’s moved position because of where the bump is but I never feel him turn- it’s a bit unnerving!

captainsmal · 22/07/2025 19:41

@PrincessofLiechtenstein sometimes I feel what seems like a roll or something with her turning over but my bump hasn’t changed position 😅 I’m at that stage now of trying to get her dad to feel the kicks but she stops every time he puts his hand on my stomach of course!
20 week scan was really good yesterday, got some really clear pictures and everything was perfect 🥰
I had to have an extra test for my bloodflow to the placenta (think cos of my raynauds/asthma/fibromyalgia etc) and that was all good so the aspirin is working! Got obstetrician on Friday who will decide if I can go to 40wks or if I have to be induced at 37 😬😬🤞🏻🤞🏻

LincolnshireHollyhock · 04/08/2025 14:51

How is everyone doing?

My baby is very active and I’ve been blowing up like a pumpkin as the days pass.

My last day at work is end of October so all starting to feel very real.xx

captainsmal · 04/08/2025 17:55

@LincolnshireHollyhock we’re good! Mines so active as well now 😅 I just got back from a week in Paris (including Disneyland!!) and while I was away I noticed the kicks are getting much stronger now too. He felt her move for the first time yesterday 🥰 mine will be the end of October too I think around 25th, not that I’m counting 🤣

Ivf4203 · 04/08/2025 18:09

Nice to hear from you @LincolnshireHollyhock and @captainsmal . So pleased babies are keeping active. Can’t wait to feel my one’s first kicks!! I’m 17 weeks today and midwife said it’s normal not to feel anything at this point but let them know if nothing by 24 weeks.

May I ask if you had a discussion yet with doctor regarding birth plan/being induced? My midwife booked me an appt at around 28 weeks with a consultant to discuss induction as she said they don’t really like IVF babies going overdue but not sure if that is a local practice/protocol.

captainsmal · 04/08/2025 18:16

@Ivf4203 my midwife also said they don’t let IVF babies go overdue, I was meant to have that obstetrics app but it got cancelled and is now in another 3 weeks time so I guess I’ll find out then!

Ivf4203 · 04/08/2025 18:34

@captainsmal good to know there’s some consistency in that regard. I hope appt goes well. I don’t mind being induced at all, just want what’s best for baby obviously. Could you remind me when are you due? I’m due January and planning to work up to the week before I’m due but hearing your leaves are starting in Oct makes me want to review that decision lol x

captainsmal · 04/08/2025 18:41

@Ivf4203 I’m due 3rd dec and I have some holiday left so I’m starting a week holiday at 35 weeks, then maternity leave 36 weeks. I wanted to go longer but with such a physical job and how bad my back has been already I don’t think I’d be very comfortable any longer! Also I work 10hr shifts and spend 4hrs commuting a day so it’s just too much for me personally, you have to do what feels good for you 🥰

Ivf4203 · 04/08/2025 18:47

@captainsmal that makes sense! A 4hr commute sounds brutal even for someone who’s not heavily pregnant! To be fair my manager is super supportive, she said we can review my leave date towards the end of my second trimester. My job is fairly relaxed although can get hectic occasionally. Have you started shopping for babygear yet?

captainsmal · 04/08/2025 18:50

@Ivf4203my sister has a 5 year old and a 2 year old so I’ve basically got it all already as hand me downs 😅 all the big stuff anyway, like pram/car seat/cot/highchair so I’ve just been getting clothes tbh! And I started stashing up packs of nappies and stuff like that and I’ve bought a few toys and books so far

Ivf4203 · 04/08/2025 19:03

@captainsmal how lucky!! It’s sooo overwhelming and confusing as there are lots of choices so good you don’t have to worry about any of that!

LincolnshireHollyhock · 04/08/2025 19:11

Hiya,

Thats local procedure I think - I’m meeting the consultant the day before due date to have that conversation. I think all areas seem to do things a little different.

I get a bonus scan at 32 weeks because of the IVF - so am happy with that!

im sure you’ll starting feeling baby soon enough 🥰 - personally mine started with tiny little taps and not butterflies…

@captainsmal Disneyland with a bean on board - amazing! Have you done much nursery / clothes / pram preparation?

captainsmal · 04/08/2025 19:14

@LincolnshireHollyhock it was definitely so good! She went crazy kicking during all the bits with loud music like some of the rides and parade etc!
yeah I’ve sorted out a bookshelf, started filling wardrobe drawers with the wipes/nappies/bits and bobs I’ve got, now I’ve got a huge pile of laundry to do for all the baby clothes to hang up! The pram and cot and stuff are still at my parents house so I haven’t done much with that yet

PrincessofLiechtenstein · 05/08/2025 18:11

Glad everyone is getting on well. Mine is definitely getting more vigorous with the kicks but then will still have quiet days which makes me worry. Yesterday I think he’d managed to flip himself so he was punching under my ribs which wasn’t great!

I’ve decided my last day of work will be 6th November which will be 37ish weeks I think. Hopefully that will be the right balance. I really want to stay late enough that I can stay off until the following January if I use up all the holiday I’ll have accrued. Fortunately I can work from home more towards when I need to and my job is desk based so should be ok.

I'm starting to think about decorating now but first we need to have a massive clear out- that’s going to be my main job next week. I’ve also been given a load of stuff including a big bag of cloth nappies which I am undecided about. A nice idea in theory but….!

Ivf4203 · 27/08/2025 09:14

Hi all, i hope everyone’s doing well? I had my 20 wk scan yesterday. Sonographer was happy with everything, I looked at the report the femur length seems to be on the low side but she didn’t say anything about it so will follow husband’s advice and not worry about that!! I have an extra scan at 36wks due to IVF. Body aching a bit because I had the whopping cough vaccine as well but I’m not complaining. Thinking of you all x

captainsmal · 27/08/2025 21:42

@Ivf4203 we’re good! Glad to hear your scan went well. I get an extra scan at 32 weeks because of my asthma. Ended up in a&e the week before last for a bad asthma attack and had my medications upped, steroids and on the breathing machine etc so I have to go back to the obstetrician in 3 weeks to see if the new dose has improved it. The humid weather hasn't helped tbh! They're worried about growth if my asthma stays bad so we will see at the scan how big she is and I might still get induced early but if not they said all IVF pregnancies get offered induction at 40wks anyway!

worldwidetravel2017 · 28/08/2025 07:54

Hey all

Nearly 12 weeks preg with our ivf miracle

Expecting a c section as i have chronic fatigue syndrome

I also have aps and a ton of other things

We have a private scan this saturday

Ivf4203 · 28/08/2025 22:16

@captainsmal oh gosh sorry to hear you’ve been unwell! I hope the new medication regime is working and you’re feeling much better. Fingers crossed all goes well at the next scan and baby growing well. Are you due in Dec? Not long to gooooo xxx

@worldwidetravel2017 12 weeks is such a huge milestone, you’ll be there before you know it. I just celebrate each day that I stay pregnant and whisper thank you to my baby each morning for holding tight! I hope your first trimester is going ok symptoms wise? Best of luck with the next scan!

PrincessofLiechtenstein · 31/08/2025 17:02

Sorry you’ve been poorly @captainsmalI hope they are able to get things under control. Interesting that they said they offer all IVF pregnancies induction at 40 weeks. Did they say why they did that? Not sure it’s the protocol at my hospital but I’ve got a call with one of the doctors this week to discuss birth choices so I’ll find out more then.

Congratulations @worldwidetravel2017well done for making it to 12 weeks and hope your scan goes really well. It’s tough when you have other conditions. I hope your hospital keeps a close eye on you.

Glad to hear things are going well @Ivf4203we also had one measurement (head width) but DH has convinced me not to worry about it if the doctors aren’t. It helped that he pointed out that he has quite a long narrow head!

Ive got a big day on Friday, gestational diabetes test, midwife appointment and a scan. At least I’ve managed to pack them all into one day.

Annoyingly my chat with the doctor about natural vs c section is the day before the scan, which considering the scan is to check if my placenta has moved up or if I need a c section seems a bit the wrong way round!

Ivf4203 · 31/08/2025 17:10

@PrincessofLiechtenstein Good luck for Friday - big day indeed I hope all goes well. Maybe the dr will chat options covering for both eventualities. My birth plan chat w dr is at 28 weeks. Midwife said drs in our hospital usually would want to induce at 39/40 weeks for IVF babies as there is small evidence that placenta fails earlier in IVF pregnancies compared to natural so they don’t want to go over term or something to that effect. She did say if I have more questions to ask the dr so I didn’t ask for more info at that point!

PrincessofLiechtenstein · 01/09/2025 12:45

That’s interesting. No one has mentioned that to me yet. I think I need to start writing some questions ahead of the call so I can remember what I need to ask.

I have started a bit of light reading with The Good Birth Guide which I found quite helpful. I’m now reading How to give Birth like a feminist which is a bit more strident and maybe less helpful!

How are you all starting to prepare?
