Hiya. I’m due to start IVF in March and just wanted to find some people who were going through the same so we can support/ advise eachother! I’m 32 and have been trying to get pregnant for 8 years now and just wanted to meet some people in the same boat!

So I was absolutely fine with the injections however the first one I went all faint and felt sick! It was very odd and unexpected but I think it was the anticipation and not knowing if it would be painful etc! After that I did nearly all of them myself and I was absolutely fine!

We did our fresh transfer yesterday (12/19 fertilised eggs) with a 5AA so just hoping it sticks now. We got 4 frozen too (5AA 4AB 4BC 4AC)- the other 7 were not good enough quality for freezing.

WOW the progesterone pessaries are not fun are they! I’ve had to start having a fybogel sachet a day to help ease it.

captainsmal · 24/02/2025 09:31

@Quaver9 congrats on your transfer! And some good frosties as well! How are you feeling about the 2ww, will you wait for otd or are you going to test out the trigger shot? Hope you have lots of nice things planned to keep you busy while you wait 😊

Quaver9 · 24/02/2025 09:34

@captainsmal thank you!
I actually wanted to lots of bits around the house but I’m going to try and just work/rest as the last two losses funnily enough started the day after I’d been painting/very active so I’m banned from that now!
I tested the trigger twice this week so I’ll leave it until end of the week and start testing every 2 days so see how it’s going.
Any sign of AF!? X

captainsmal · 24/02/2025 10:11

@Quaver9 that makes a lot of sense then. Rest as much as you can 🙏🏻
No, been having horrible cramps since yesterday so it’s definitely on its way but nothing yet! Keep scrutinising the paper every time I go to the toilet to see if I can see any spotting yet lol 😂 I need it to come by Thursday so I have time still 🤞🏻

Quaver9 · 24/02/2025 12:22

@captainsmal so typical that isn’t it! I was the same, pains the Thurs and Friday and when I stopped meds on the sat it took 3 days to turn up, I was starting to panic and also doing the toilet roll scrutinisation 😂 hope it turns up soon and you’re one step closer to stims then. Let me know how you get on xx

captainsmal · 24/02/2025 13:06

@Quaver9 yeah they say it comes in 2-5 days from stopping and I’m literally only day 2 today so I need to stop being so impatient 😂 I’ll definitely update when it comes 🤞🏻

Oh god yes I forgot about the pessaries! Well I hope all goes well for you and il keep my fingers crossed! How did u did the egg retrieval? I’m not too concerned about the pain etc but im more concerned about the anaesthesia. I’ve been told your still awake but dont remember what is going on? So do you fall asleep while it’s being done or are you just all drugged up and high?! lol

Hello everyone! 👋 @Banksl92 Thank you for starting this thread - you and I have very similar situations.

Turning 33 this week, I have the low side of "average" follicles, but my husband, 43, has a very low sperm count. This improved significantly with the supplements but we're still under the low threshold. We have only actively been trying for 14 months, but we haven't been using any form of protection for the last 10 years so they think our odds of natural conception are low. We're going through ICSI with a late March start date. Quite nervous about the process itself and balancing it and its hormones with a very intense job.

I hope all goes well. Please let me know how you go. I’m very lucky I actually work in the NHS and I work from home 3 days a week so they have been really helpful and understanding so hopefully I won’t have any work stress to deal with at least x

@Banksl92 I havent had EC before but the drugs they use are the same ones I had during one of my wisdom tooth being removed, and also I had two laparoscopic spinal surgeries with the same ones as well and basically you are awake but you’re so out of it, and also the drugs cause amnesia afterwards so you literally won’t remember any of it. It feels like being asleep but maybe with weird dreams during it lol. For example, when I had my wisdom tooth out, I felt like I was dreaming and I heard a crack noise (obviously the tooth coming out) and then I woke up thinking the dentist who was leaning over me going “wake up now” was my husbands best mate for some reason 😂 Then when you get home you can nap and that was the best sleep of my life tbh lol 😂 With my spinal surgeries it felt even more like being asleep because I was obviously laying on the surgery table not sitting in a dentist chair and plus I had an oxygen mask etc. The only funny thing that happened with that was afterwards the anaesthesiologist bloke asked me if I had EDS/hypermobile and I said yeah why? And apparently I was so drugged up and I guess my muscles were so relaxed that when I was on the table my elbows were bending completely backwards and freaked everyone out 😂

Oh blimey! I think I’m just worried about feeling out of control type thing if I’m all drugged up! I wish they would just knock me out lol. But if I can’t remember afterwards anyway it won’t be an issue lol!

captainsmal · 24/02/2025 15:05

@Banksl92 no you’ll most likely just be really really sleepy or even fall asleep and then yeah you don’t remember any of it anyway. The worst part for me was having the cannula in the back of my hand and waiting for them to remove it afterwards!

Hi ladies

I will be cycling with you too. First time IVF - we are going abroad.

Expecting my period to start 2/03. My clinic starts injections on day 2-4 of the period (a bit late, isn't it?).

I'm 41, all tests appear normal, but I don't want to take chances and wait another year for pregnancy. We are planning to PGT-A the embryos we are hopefully going to get.

I've been reading the Feb group too, they are such a lovely bunch there.

I have my final nurses appointment on Wednesday this week and they will confirm when I start the injections but by memory from what the doctor said before it was day 1 or 2. But I’m sure as long as they are checking your egg growth etc via scans to check when they are all ready maybe the date of the beginning injections doesn’t have to be too specific? Hope all goes well for you!!

Egg collection went well today. Clinic were great, in at 8, ready for collection at 9 and out by 11.
sedation was great, don’t remember a thing and felt fine when I came around, just sleepy!
I will say my abdomen is very tender and lower back still sore but it has been all weekend even before collection.
19 collected, rest were too small. Will see how many fertilise tomorrow and make it to day 5. They haven’t ruled out a fresh transfer on Sunday as I was just below the 20 threshold for a freeze all. I can’t see me being up to it however though if I stay feeling so tender. X

Glad to hear your collection went well x

Sorry if I’ve missed any messages I find the layout difficult to keep up with! Was wondering if maybe creating a WhatsApp group would be an idea if anyone was interested?! Ive found it so useful talking to everyone regarding their experiences. Certainly makes me feel less lonely going through this!

@Banksl92 the sedation was the best part of the whole process! Please don’t be worried.
I believe there’s different levels of sedation based on the drug you have, I too had one for a wisdom tooth removal but I was conscious for that.
With EC you are not awake - you are unconscious. Once the cannulas was in, they pushed the milky sedation fluid (propofol) though which was a little uncomfortable but not painful. The anaesthetist chatted to me until I was asleep which was nice. Completely out cold, no awareness or memory of anything during, next thing the nurse waking me up in the private room. They gave me some paracetamol too so when I woke up I felt better already!
I was very tender the two days after and still had some lower back pain which was normal with having 19 collected. I was also quite tired so took a few days off work to recover. Feeling completely back to normal now a week on. X

Oh that had put my mind at ease! I just would rather be totally with it or it completely out. I just hated the thought of being all drugged up and out of control! I have a week already booked off work just as I needed to use holiday up and I think my collection will fall around then (all going well) so thankfully shouldn’t have to worry about work x

@Quaver9 omg conscious for a wisdom tooth. I couldn’t have done that! I told them to knock me out haha. My clinic said they’ll be using midazolam and fentanyl which is what I had for my wisdom tooth, they must have different levels for everything lol. @Banksl92 If you’re getting those too you’ll definitely be fine 😅 I was a pharmacy technician for ten years and we used to call those ones the fun drugs 😂

I was totally conscious for all 3 of my wisdom teeth being out. Wasn’t fun lol. I’m sure I will be totally fine but just winding myself up about it. Just want it to hurry up and get here!

@Banksl92 when is your EC happening? Mine will be 12th March at the moment if nothing changes 🤞🏻

Banksl92 · 24/02/2025 19:54

So I have been on Letrozole for a few months as I wasn’t ovulating properly hoping that would help me conceive which hasnt worked unfortunately ( I was ovulating on these but just no pregnancy) but it has made my periods totally ‘regular’ (which has been lovely) so my period should start on March 6th so I would assume all going well it should be on 17th or 18th?

@captainsmal omg who knew there were so many different options for egg collection sedation! The fun drugs 😂
@Banksl92 if you prefer to be unconscious maybe mention that when you next see the consultant to see if your preferences can be facilitated - I’d also feel the same about being semi conscious.

wishing you both the best for your sticks and collections, keep me posted! Xx

Thank you. I will ask at my nurses zoom which is on Wednesday. Not sure if it's the same process at every clinic but this is my final 'meeting' before I start which will be with the nurses. And from here I believe my meds will then be delivered ready to start next week. I think I will be fine I've just got into my head a bit over it and thinking about it too much. Have you been advised about wearing fragrances etc during egg collection/ implantation? I've heard a lot about it online but it's not been mentioned to me yet. I'm sure it will be closer to the time but I've heard wearing any fragrances can cause issues to the eggs? Sorry I have so many questions lol

Where are you getting your meds from? I think mine use stork. Yes it says in the info not to wear fragrances

I'm doing my IVF via the NHS in Cambridge so it's through Bourn clinic but not sure where the meds come from. Maybe they will let me know in my meeting on Wednesday. I'm sure they will give me more info closer to the time I just wasn't sure how strict it was like whether it meant just perfume or even deodorant etc?!

OP posts:
captainsmal · 24/02/2025 21:26

@Twofromanotherkind my meds came from stork, I’m with care under nhs so they were all free obviously so they just deliver them all together in one big box, I’ve even got my trigger already and suppository for EC painkiller lol!
@Banksl92 that sounds about right if you’re going to stim for 10-12 days like me, mine just made me take this norethisterone first to fit my period into their schedule (although now I’m panicking it won’t come in time lol!) my last appointment was the nurse planning one then yeah they arrange the meds delivery right after that, I literally got a call from stork about an hour later asking what day I was at home for them to deliver lol. I think you’re not supposed to have any perfume or shower gel or anything for EC at all, but they haven’t told me yet. They said I’d get all the information about it on my scan date and when to take trigger etc! Also on embryo transfer it’s the same with the smells apparently, and it applies to partners as well if they’re coming in the room for it 😬
