Hi 👋
I'm due to commence IVF next month (injections to start 2nd October).
Thought I'd start a group for anyone going through the same thing at the same time to support each other ☺️

Hiya! I'm due to start IVF in October too 😊, it will be early October but I don't know the exact date yet as it will start with my natural period. Is it your first time? My 4th time but first time at a new clinic

SAbs86 · 05/09/2024 20:31

Hey I am due to start in Oct too! I have an appt with my consultant next week and then nurse will talk me through my protocol. Due to start injections around end of Sept and estimate EC will be mid Oct x

spamOFtheDAY · 06/09/2024 09:59

Ah glad there are some people at the same time ☺️
Time already feels like it's dragging so I can't imagine how it'll feel at the time

I think I start injections on 2nd October but just waiting for my treatment plan

How come you've moved to a new clinic? Sorry to hear it's your 4th time @ButterscotchBabe that must be tough

I stupidly didn't properly look into the outcome stats until after I'd signed up so now my hope is a bit dashed 😞

@SAbs86 welcome! I'm guessing by those dates you'll be on the short (antagonist) protocol?

@spamOFtheDAY yes I wish this month would hurry up so I can start, getting bored of waiting! My 3 previous rounds have been with an NHS clinic (some funded, some private) and to be honest they were rubbish. They do next to no testing during treatment, they're very conservative with stimulation doses and just generally their knowledge is lacking. We've now moved to a London clinic with much higher success rates.

If your case isn't too complicated, then you might be okay with a clinic with lower success rates, was price/location a factor in choosing them?

Glad you've found somewhere you have more confidence in.
I'm in the north east England so location is a big factor TBH.
My age is a big factor too unfortunately as I'm 39 😞

Will you do anything like acupuncture during treatment too? I've been thinking of extra things that could help reduce stress and fill the time

@ButterscotchBabe thank you! Yes its antagonist although they will confirm it at my appt next week.

Do you know which protocol you're on? Sorry to hear its your 4th round. Wishing you the best of luck for this round.

ButterscotchBabe · 07/09/2024 11:17

@spamOFtheDAY I'm guessing there are less places to choose from in the North East? I'm in the Midlands but will be getting the train back and forth to London throughout treatment, which I'm not looking forward to! Do you know your AMH and AFC? Age is important yes but some women still have lots of good eggs in late thirties. I'm 33 but my AMH 1.2 and AFC 6, so pretty bad for my age ☹️. I probably won't do acupuncture as too scared of needles 😂 but anything you can do to relax will help a lot! I might book a massage

@SAbs86 I'll be on the short protocol too! In my opinion that's the better protocol as it doesn't involve shutting your ovaries down and works with your natural cycle. Thank you 😊 yes annoying it's the 4th but at least I'm used to the process now 😂. Also feeling much more confident now we've changed clinics. Is your clinic local to you, or are you having to travel?

SAbs86 · 08/09/2024 22:02

Yes I much prefer short protocol! I'm also impatient 😅 were your first 3 rounds with one clinic? This is my second round of IVF, the first round resulted in my son and then I had two failed FETs and now starting all over again. Its sort of local to me, its commutable from my office so I figured that would be easier as I think there will be quite a few monitoring scans during stims. I saw your note above about commuting from Midlands which will be tough but hopefully you can do virtual calls where possible to minimise travel.

Clo3 · 10/09/2024 21:39

I’m starting October too hopefully first or second week of October depending on my period🙂

I have my first appt this week too… hopes yours went/goes well🙂

ButterscotchBabe · 10/09/2024 23:27

@SAbs86 yes first 3 rounds were at the same clinic, this will be the first time with a new clinic, so I'm quite excited! That's amazing you had a son from your first round, least you know it does work. Will you be working throughout treatment? Due to the amount of travel I'll have to take quite a lot of time off. Nope no virtual calls, this clinic is quite different to other ones, they do very frequent blood tests and scans, it's like IVF bootcamp 😂

@Clo3 Welcome! I think we'll be starting at very similar times as my next period is due around 7th October

Thankyou ☺️im due the 7th too! but with pcos they are hoping my period will come at least the week commencing of the 7th fingers crossed!

SAbs86 · 11/09/2024 13:13

@Clo3 welcome! Annoyingly my appt got rescheduled as not all my bloods came back in time. It doesn't impact timings but I'm just keen to get started! Hope yours go well

@ButterscotchBabe thanks we were so amazed as we didn't expect it to work first time! Yes I will be working, hoping its not too intense but lets see. Are you with ARGC? I've heard its like boot camp!

Purpleflowers17 · 12/09/2024 14:30

Hi All
can I join please? Hoping to start in October but worried that the appointments won’t happen in time. We have a zoom call with the nurse to talk through the treatment plan. Still need to have the Hep/Hiv blood test and the medication tutorial at the clinic 😂

how long did it take to get all this booked in for everyone. My period is due in 24 days so hoping we have time 🤞🏻 I’m on antagonist cycle with 150iu of Meriofert. Had 43 follicles on the AMH/Scan so hoping that helps our chance but at high risk of OHSS.
wishing everyone loads of luck 🍀

Hiya! That’s great news we had our appt today and start hopefully first week of October. We have to still have these tests done too but they didn’t seem worried about rushing them atall and said to just get it done over the next 2/3 weeks. Look forward to following your journey 🙂

ButterscotchBabe · 13/09/2024 08:09

@SAbs86 yes we're with ARGC, so will be a very different experience 😄, hopefully a positive one!

@Clo3 ah as you have PCOS you'll be on the short (antagonist) protocol too? It looks like we're all on the same protocol 😀

@Purpleflowers17 hello! Clinic timings are so different everywhere but with 23 days that should be enough. Wow 43 follicles, you'll get loads of eggs! That can sometimes result in immature eggs but hopefully your clinic will monitor you closely. Will they be doing any blood testing while you're stimulating?

Purpleflowers17 · 13/09/2024 11:07

@Clo3 great gives me hope we might also be ready to go in October. Is this your first cycle of IVF?

@ButterscotchBabe your commute sounds challenging. I have to drive an hour to the clinic I’m in West Midlands and I thought that was bad!! Yes that’s the challenge lots of eggs but maybe they aren’t mature enough!! They have mentioned it just all depends on the baseline scan apparently at the beginning.

I feel frustrated at the NHS funding feel like I should be grateful but we literally get one fresh transfer not even a full round. It’s dreadful and there is a chance due to OHSS they might need to freeze them all and then we can’t get the NHS transfer. Sorry that’s my moan! 😂

Clo3 · 13/09/2024 13:50

Yes short protocol 🙂

SAbs86 · 13/09/2024 14:24

@Purpleflowers17 welcome! That sounds like more than enough time to be able to start in October, although it differs clinic to clinic. That's a great number of follicles hopefully you get of eggs!

@ButterscotchBabe I've heard they are intense and you need to go in daily but they have a very high success rate and that's probably why! I also considered them when looking but ultimately went with another clinic due to cost.

ButterscotchBabe · 15/09/2024 11:06

@Purpleflowers17 your frustrations at the NHS are completely warranted! The UK birth rate has been falling for decades and yet very little funding is put into fertility treatment. Someone in my area recently started a petition calling for all NHS trusts to offer 3 funded rounds and is speaking with our MP about it.

@SAbs86 yep I'll have to visit them every other day on the first week, everyday on the second week and then every other day until confirmed pregnancy! Yeh they are pretty expensive 😬, we felt after 3 failed rounds we needed to throw everything at it

BelleCrescent · 16/09/2024 14:33

Hi all, I'd like to join too, if that's ok. :) I'll start injections on the 4th October. It's our 2nd round, 1st one (NHS funded) failed and this time we're self funding...so expensive! I'm 41 so don't really have high hopes tbh but fingers crossed. Wishing everyone good luck and look forward to reading updates on how it's all going!

AnonS · 16/09/2024 15:10

Hi all, jumping on thread. I wont be having an egg collection in October, but will be having my 5th FET. AF is due to start around 3rd October, so transfer will fall at the end of the month. I'm 41 so feel my time is nearly up :(

Purpleflowers17 · 16/09/2024 17:59

@ButterscotchBabe the lack of funding needs to be spoken about more it’s dreadful.

@BelleCrescent welcome on our injections fall a couple of days apart. Are you having a fresh or frozen transfer?

@AnonS welcome, you have time keep the faith!

Good news today had the meeting with then nurse and all booked in for our final bloods & meds tutorial in couple weeks. Should be starting when AF turns up on 6th October 🤞🏻 As it’s our first cycle I am not holding my breath but good to be getting started.

ButterscotchBabe · 17/09/2024 08:11

@BelleCrescent @AnonS Hello and welcome!

@Purpleflowers17 that's great news it's all going ahead for October 😊. Just curious, what are the final bloods you're having before starting? I've never been asked for blood tests right before the cycle starts. First cycles are often a trial as they don't know how you'll react to the meds but I know several women who have had success on their first cycle, so it is possible!

BelleCrescent · 17/09/2024 10:20

Thanks, @Purpleflowers17 😊We're doing a duo stim, 2 egg collections back to back in October and November. Not sure when our transfer will be as we're also doing PGT-A and that could take a few extra weeks... We might wait until Jan with the transfer so that we don't ruin our Christmas😓Glad to hear that you're going ahead on the 6th, how exciting! I know what you mean about NHS funding, it's all such a nightmare. I'm surprised to hear that you'd lose your funding for the transfer if they had to freeze your embryos? That's awful and let's hope it doesn't come to that!
