Medicated FET what day was your transfer?

Hi everyone,

Embarking on another round of IVF and I’m having a FET next Tuesday. I went for a lining scan on CD8 and it was 6.1mm so returned yesterday CD11 and lining was above 7mm. I’m to start the dreaded progesterone pessaries on Thursday CD14 this week and my transfer is now booked for next Tuesday CD19.

Is this very late for a transfer? I’m getting myself all worried that it’s late and it’s going to impact the result of this cycle but being medicated does it not make a difference? Can anyone put my mind at ease?!

Many thanks!

Hi guys. My transfer was on the 23rd. Fingers crossed for us all. That was my 2nd transfer, 1st fresh transfer failed, 2nd FET canceled due to fluid in the lining, had to have a hysteroscopy.

flowersinmay · 26/06/2022 18:46

@Justhopeful best of luck!!! I've also got my second transfer this Wednesday 27th. How are you feeling? X

Justhopeful · 26/06/2022 18:54

@flowersinmay just some Lower abdominal pain, not serious. Bloating, cramps here and there, symptoms associated with progesterone, so not reading anything into it. Trying my best not to test because the last time I started testing on 4dp5dt and could not stop, really messed me up, it was tough.

wish you luck with your transfer

flowersinmay · 26/06/2022 19:32

@Justhopeful ahh yes that must have been tough, i can sympathise. This process is so hard. I think I started testing around 8dp5dt last time, managed to hold out the first week but found the second week really really tough. Lots of tears. I found testing around day 8 helped me prepare for the worst a bit though as it was already showing negative. So on otd I just knew I shouldn't get my hopes up and was already mentally preparing for the next steps (having a plan helped me cope with the bfn). Very best of luck to you! Keep us updated! Xox

🤞@Justhopeful

mine’s Tuesday @flowersinmay and I’m starting to feel a bit nervous!

@Happycrocodile oh yes. The reason why is because I have problems with my uterus lining and it grew marginally better during fresh cycles than frozen medicated (although not amazing). So, this was an attempt of helping things along.

Happycrocodile · 27/06/2022 07:44

@EasterBunny7 I see, have you got a lining scan coming up?

Hi @Justhopeful my transfer was the day before yours - when's your OTD? My clinic tells you to test on 15dp5dt with medicated FETs, which is such a long wait. I'm not an early tester but waiting that long is hard.

I'm now 5dp5dt and can't say I've had any symptoms really. I had moments on 2dp & 3dp where I thought 'is that cramp?' but you can tell that it was mild from the fact that I wasn't even sure - and as soon as I had the thought dismissed it as meds/digestion anyway. The TWW really does switch you on to every sensation in your body.

It's my 8th transfer and the only BFP I've had (3rd transfer, chemical) I didn't notice any symptoms until 9dp when I had a real wave of tiredness, so trying to hold on to hope.

@flowersinmay @Happycrocodile lots of luck for your transfers!

Justhopeful · 27/06/2022 10:27

@lucymills1234 sorry to hear about the difficulties you have had, I hope this will be your last transfer.
My OTD is on the 4th, having to wait long as 15dp5dt would be such a nightmare for me. My last transfer AF came by 9dpd5t.

the only symptom I have that is constant is the lower pelvic pain, which I have had before the transfer from the meds I will say. i will hold onto hope like you say.
I wish you all the best and this is the one for you.

@flowersinmay @Happycrocodile wish you the best of luck with you transfer.

Hopefull1981 · 27/06/2022 12:19

Hi ladies,

How are you all doing? I am counting down the time to my scan on Wednesday to see if the lining is any thicker than 7mm. God, I hope so, these fematab tablets aren't agreeing with me.

Happycrocodile · 27/06/2022 14:41

All good here @Hopefull1981, impatiently waiting a call from the clinic to find out what time tomorrow transfer will be!

Hopefull1981 · 27/06/2022 15:10

@Happycrocodile Oh exciting. Are you transferring one or two? My consultant has recommended two. All mine are 'good quality' according to the embryologist. I keep getting signs for twins. It's mad.

Happycrocodile · 27/06/2022 15:45

@Hopefull1981 just one, they won’t transfer two at my clinic and I’m still “young” apparently (at 35) we do already have my IVF 1.5year old and our 6 year old so one is probably enough! I did ask if they would transfer two though!

Hi all, hoping you don't mind me joining as I have the same concern about late transfer. I had my first lining check today for a medicated FET CD14 and 7.2mm with tri lining which is great for me. But had a 13mm follicle so waiting on bloods to come back. Have just heard from the clinic and they're scheduling my transfer for two weeks time (CD28) with progesterone to start in 8 days pending blood results tomorrow. I've gone back to them as this seems absurdly far away especially given I have a large follicle there. Wondering if anyone has had timing this long or a similar situation? Thanks in advance.

Happycrocodile · 27/06/2022 19:59

Hi @Gracie2021, unfortunately I think you’ve found a group of us who are all still quite clueless about how late a transfer can be but I, like you, would think CD28 is particularly late. Interested to hear what their reply is and hopefully in the meantime someone more in the know will join us!

@Happycrocodile had a post trigger scan today. It was tumultuous to say the least! First, the nurse was very heavy handed, whizzing the wand around like she was mixing cake batter! 😂

My lining had been 6mm last Friday, and then she announced it is 3.5mm today! Nearly had a heart attack. They tried calling the Dr for a second opinion but no one available. So, she kept looking. By then, I just thought I'm going to grit my teeth and bear with the discomfort as long as they figure out what's happened.

Anyways, she tried many different things, it somehow went up to 6.5mm, and then ended up at 9.3mm! I was just very apprehensive about how the number could vary so much within 15 minutes. In the end, I had to go with what they said. Now, I'm waiting to hear what the next steps are. Missed my call today as I was at work, and they didn't try again.

EasterBunny7 · 27/06/2022 21:53

@Hopefull1981 do you mind if I ask why your clinic decided to increase your medication at day 11 despite having a viable lining at 7mm?

Hopefull1981 · 28/06/2022 09:10

@EasterBunny7 When I was initially scanned, the nurse said everything looked great for a transfer in 5 days. She said she wanted to consult the doctor before proceeding with times etc. She then rang and said the doctor said to increase the medication to give me the best possible chance this cycle. I think when I was doing an OII cycle my lining was 9 mm+ but that would have been checked later in my cycle, so perhaps she wants me to get to this point again. The nurse said if this transfer didn't work, they would know what to tweak.

You must have been livid with the process yesterday. I hate when you feel you are second guessing the experts.

@Gracie2021 I was told that it actually doesn;t matter what day the transfer takes place once you get 5 days of progesterone before it in a medicated transfer.

Happycrocodile · 28/06/2022 12:12

Sounds like an ordeal @EasterBunny7 I’m sure the thing with all these scans is that it’s 80% science, 20% educated guess work!

I’m on the train on the way to the clinic 😊 I had Accupuncture first thing this morning and booked in again tomorrow!

@Happycrocodile congratulations on being PUPO! When is your OTD?

Happycrocodile · 28/06/2022 21:33

Thanks @EasterBunny7 next Thursday if they do a blood beta HCG, or Saturday if it’s a home test. They did a blood test last time but apparently the protocol may have recently changed but the nurse said I needed to call and clarify.

I was just taking my oestrogen and progesterone and I realised I didn’t ask if I’m meant to keep taking the oestrogen, I know I’m definitely supposed to keep up the progesterone!

lucymills1234 · 29/06/2022 08:46

Thank you @justhopeful. How are you doing in the TWW? I’m now 7dp5dt and still lacking any kind of tangible symptoms. I can sometimes get a little cramping for a while after putting the utrogestan in but that’s clearly meds. A few other odd times I’ve had stomach ‘sensation’ that I’d say is too mild to label as cramps and would not even have registered if I wasn’t hyper alert to it.

@Happycrocodile congrats on the transfer! I can’t believe that your OTD if it’s a blood test is the same as my test day - and my transfer was lost Wednesday!! I have to keep taking oestrogen and was told it would continue until 12 weeks if BFP. The fact I feel a total fraud even typing that tells you how much the repeated failures have knocked me :( I hate this impossible balance of wanting to hope and yet wanting to protect yourself!

@EasterBunny7 that appointment sounds frustrating. The only thing I would say is that lining thickness can vary in different places (though 3.5 to 9.3 seems extreme!). My last scan my clinic measured 8.9, 8 and 8.5 so recorded 8.5mm as an ‘average’.

hope everyone else is doing well?

Hopefull1981 · 29/06/2022 09:33

Hi ladies,

Just had my second scan. Lining is now 8.2mm but the nurse said should couldn’t see that it was trilaminar. It was on last weeks scan. Has this happened to anyone?
We are still proceeding with a transfer on Monday. Consultant said everything looks fine but I can’t help wonder if this is the best approach. I am transferring 2 embryos and everything I read was that a trilaminar lining is the optimum.

never a full day.

hope you are all doing ok.

EasterBunny7 · 29/06/2022 10:58

@Hopefull1981 that's really frustrating! You may have seen that I had a similar incident in that my lining went from 6mm to 3.5mm (and then shot up to something higher). It just places a doubt in your mind that the lining is shedding, or overestimated from the beginning. But, as others have commented (along with nurses): the ultrasound measurements are subjective to the assessor. I really hope that's the case for you too!

I am also proceeding without a trilaminar uterine lining. No choice on my part, unfortunately. Fingers crossed with your transfer.

Hopefull1981 · 29/06/2022 11:10

@EasterBunny7 Thank you. I was chatting to a friend, and she said the womb could have been at an awkward angle. The nurse also had trouble finding my ovaries. I had to push pressure on my lower tummy for her to find the right one in the end. I am just hoping that's it. Progesterone starts tonight, then antibiotic and steroid tomorrow and 8 fematab a day... proper pharmacy going on. FIngers crossed for you too. :-)
