Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

@Mancbear88 yes my test was this morning. I had a feeling it hasn’t worked as I didn’t feel any different, so I wasn’t as disappointed. This is my 2nd unsuccessful cycle. We hope to try one more time. Time is against my though as I am 42 :(

Gardenlady543 · 29/01/2021 13:44

@thirteen92 sorry to hear that, but you know it’s quality not quantity and at your age the chance of aneuploidy is lower than those of us who are older. Fingers crossed for the next few days!

@Lola98 I’m sorry to hear that, what day post transfer are you, is it your OTD?

I am on my first day of progesterone, a bit of a worrying time as I reacted in my fresh cycle, I’m then due to have a progesterone blood test on Tuesday with the transfer planned for the Wednesday.

This has not been an easy cycle with the nausea and vomiting on the estradiol and now worrying because of the potential allergy to progesterone. I will be having a natural FET if this one doesn’t work out, from looking at the literature natural FET should be considered for those with regular cycles and with success rates the same, it seems that medicated FET cycles are only promoted by clinics because of the scheduling benefits for the clinics themselves.

I’m sorry @Lola98 have you got frosties to use? Was it a single transfer? Did you have PGT-A testing?

MF1981 · 29/01/2021 13:51

So sorry @Lola98

Motherofkittens28 · 29/01/2021 14:18

So sorry to hear that @Lola98

thirteen92 · 29/01/2021 14:37

@Lola98 I’m so sorry to hear that 😔 big hugs

kikisparks · 29/01/2021 15:05

So sorry to hear that @Lola98. Will you have a follow up appointment with the clinic?

kikisparks · 29/01/2021 15:08

@thirteen92 sorry to hear that, but hopefully you have 6 healthy strong eggs and a few will become blastocysts. Is it male factor infertility you have?

thirteen92 · 29/01/2021 15:13

@kikisparks nope, my one and only Fallopian tube is knackered. We had 2 ectopics in the space of 10 months so went for ivf. I’m hoping and praying 🤞🏻

Emmalouise11 · 29/01/2021 15:19

Sorry to hear that @Lola98 x

unknownscot · 29/01/2021 15:31

@Lola98
I'm so awfully sorry ❤️

kikisparks · 29/01/2021 15:43

@thirteen92 ah I just wondered because of the ICSI, if your partner’s sperm has no issues then that’s good, hopefully a good fertilisation rate! Sorry about your ectopics that must have been horrendous having 2 in a short time.

Lola98 · 29/01/2021 16:23

Thank you all for your kind messages ❤️ I had my blood test today and it was negative. We don’t have any frozen but I have a consultation at the end of the month. We might have one more try in a couple of months. We will see what consultant says. Good luck to you all 🤞 x

thirteen92 · 29/01/2021 16:27

@kikisparks thank you! My hubby’s sperm is all above normal levels for motility and mobility and count etc. They said he has some antibodies though so that’s why they’d look at doing icsi. I’m just praying and hoping they fertilise!

kikisparks · 29/01/2021 16:51

Best of luck to you as well @Lola98 and I hope the consultation is helpful.

Lola98 · 29/01/2021 17:04

@kikisparks thank you 😊

hopefully21 · 29/01/2021 17:35

@Lola98 I'm so sorry. It's such a blow. I went through same with my first cycle BFN with nothing to freeze. It's devastating. Look after yourself and be kind to yourself. Lots of tlc this weekend and when you are ready dust yourself off and maybe go again. We did and had our daughter. Then another failed transfer and now back cycling again. It's a long road.

hopefully21 · 29/01/2021 17:38

@unknownscot hang in there. Things can change from day 3 to 5. Fingers crossed for you. The waiting is hard. Stay busy over the weekend.

hopefully21 · 29/01/2021 17:41

@thirteen92 6 eggs is good at your age. They should be good quality so the drop off between day 1 and 5 should be less than what you expect for a 40 year old.

hopefully21 · 29/01/2021 17:47

@Lola98 would you consider pgs??

Lola98 · 29/01/2021 19:51

@hopefully21 thank you I really appreciate that 💕 What are pgs? Thanks

hopefully21 · 29/01/2021 20:24

@Lola98

PGS info taken from an old thread:

Biopsy of Day 5 Blastocyst by clinic's embryologist.
Biopsy tested for chromosomal normality (euploid) at external lab.
Abnormal (or aneuploid) means a chromosome, or part of, is missing or there are multiple versions that should not be there.
Most aneuploid embryos will either not implant, miscarry or result in a genetic abnormality (degree depends on the actual chromosomal error).
Blastocyst Frozen & stays at clinic.
Results usually take approx. 2 weeks.
Some clinics biopsy & test after each stimulation cycle.
Other clinics require a minimum number of embryos over X stimulation cycles. Then a batch of biopsies sent for testing.
If you have frozen embryos, some clinics will thaw, biopsy & refreeze so that these can be PGS tested.
Higher rates of pregnancy since only Euploid embryos are transferring in a frozen cycle.
Approximate success rate of 80% (clinic & age dependent).
PGS is different from specific genetic screening. In specific genetic screening, a specific genetic condition is tested for (usually because of family history or previous pregnancy). With PGS, the number and completeness of all chromosomes are tested.

PGS is used by some for the following reasons:

A lower rate of miscarrying with PGS transferred embryos.
Was recommended by the consultant because of maternal age or previous multiple miscarriages.
Was recommended by consultant due to concerns regarding egg quality.
Don't want to risk a fetus with a life-limiting genetic condition.

Don't want to risk a fetus with a life-limiting genetic condition.
Potentially get pregnant faster because not going through multiple cycles of stimulation, miscarriage, waiting to stim again.
Potentially cost effective as only euploid embryos are transferred so not paying for transfers that will never work.

hopefully21 · 29/01/2021 20:25

Pgs is also called PGT-A

hopefully21 · 29/01/2021 20:31

@Lola98 we did PGS on our second cycle. We got 2 normal blasts from 6. Interestingly our daughter wasn't the top graded bkast in the embryoscope but was normal. The 2 top graded blasts in the embryoscope were abnormal and would either not have implanted or would have resulted in an early miscarriage. We saved ourselves the pain if 4 failed fets.. time is not on my side either. 41.5. I was 38 when we did pgs first. Fingers crossed I'll have a few blasts to test tomorrow!
