Had a quick look through but can't find an existing thread. Anyone due to cycle in August after a bit of moral support?

We are due to start our 2nd cycle of icsi for male azoospermia and my premature ovarian aging (full house for us!)

Hi there, August IVF checking in. First cycle due to start around the 6th-8th August assuming that my saline sonogram goes well and nothing unexpected delays us. I'm soo ready to get on with it now.

Eggling · 30/06/2020 21:10

Hello 👋 I'd like to join too please. I'll be doing FET in August if all goes to plan. Had my first cycle this month but it was freeze all due to OHSS, had a call with my clinic today and if my body plays ball we're aiming for mid August to transfer. I've been on the may/ June thread which has been really helpful, always nice to have people to talk to who are going through similar things 😊

Mseddy · 01/07/2020 13:55

Hey 👋🏼

Our cycle should be starting around 10th August depending on this month and next months cycle turning up on time.

@CardboardCat are you on a long or short protocol do you know yet? I'm on short, so should have egg collection towards the end of August.

@Eggling sorry to hear about the ohss. I'm guessing you have a good supply of eggs though?

Our first round was pretty pants. We managed 10 eggs which my consultant was shocked by as he expected us to get very few, but only 1 made it to 5 day blast and unfortunately it was a BFN. Chances this time arnt much better, but I'm trying to be positive!!

I can't wait to just get going now. With covid we've been waiting soooo long for this second round! Our last round was November 2019!

I'm on short protocol hopefully starting on 6th- 8th August depending on periods turning up on time too. I have a diagnosis of DOR so they're starting me on maximum stims which worries me slightly, no wiggle room if I don't respond very well. It's also a small fortune on meds upfront, gulp.

@Mseddy Sorry the last cycle didn't work out for you. Are they changing anything for you this time?

Jacky83 · 01/07/2020 14:55

Hi.

I'm starting at the end of this month with egg collection in mid-August. Currently shopping around for best drug prices and getting stressed with my clinic for being a bit slow to give us information.

Really hoping reflexology will be allowed by the end of the month to tie in with cycle.

Jacky83 · 01/07/2020 14:56

@Mseddy sorry to hear about your last cycle. I can't wait to get started now. Covid delays allowed far too much time to overthink everything!

Eggling · 01/07/2020 17:39

Hi everyone!

@Mseddy sorry your last cycle didn't work out. We got 21 eggs which ended up in 4 frozen embryos.

I'm not really sure what to do with myself between now and August - I'd like to shift a few pounds and get fitter but struggling with motivation at present!

EllieEskimo · 01/07/2020 18:08

Hi all. Can I ask if your clinics have restarted the pre treatment appointments, where they go through drugs, consent forms, etc, ready to then start treatment? I'm really confused as to why my clinic haven't restarted these yet, as I'm getting the feeling other clinics are doing them? Had you ladies already had that appointment before the clinics had to close, or have you only had it recently (and my clinic are dragging their feet)?? We've had all the other tests and are just waiting on this so we can start x

Ro198 · 01/07/2020 18:21

@ellieeskimo our clinic has restarted these appointments, we are due to have the consultation in a couple of weeks. This is my first round of ivf and we hadn’t had any appointments prior to lockdown.

EllieEskimo · 01/07/2020 18:43

@Ro198 Thanks for that, at least I know I'm not just being paranoid now, and that my clinic are in fact being a bit pants! Good luck with your first round, this will be ours too x

Jacky83 · 01/07/2020 18:46

@ellieeskimo @Ro198 We have had video consultations to discuss consent forms etc. Our clinic started doing them from 15th June.

EllieEskimo · 01/07/2020 18:59

@Jacky83 Thank you. I wish my clinic would do that too. I keep badgering them with emails, but no progress yet!

JandL2020 · 01/07/2020 20:37

Hi all. Starting the pill end of July/beginning of August when my next period arrives. I’m due on tomorrow/Friday but they said it was too much of a rush to start now and told me to enjoy my holiday. Zoom appointment mid July - I’m on short protocol so looking at the dates I’ll be beginning the process last week of August/into September. Need to lose some pounds! My clinic have re started everything we have to do all consent forms etc online. I find I need to chase them for updates but they are very good at responding and been very professional so far. Xx

Eggling · 01/07/2020 21:58

@EllieEskimo my clinic we're fairly on it too, we did lots of video consultations over lockdown so we were good to start our treatment cycle as soon as they got the all clear. It's annoying that different clinics are doing different things. I'm not sure what would be stopping them now tbh.

Bruce2 · 01/07/2020 22:48

If we decide to go ahead - we'll be August too.
Having some last minute concerns but I think I'm overthinking everything
Had 2 failed FET so this is a great fresh cycle and just a bit apprehensive!!
Good luck to everyone x

EllieEskimo · 02/07/2020 00:07

Ah, good luck @Bruce2
And thank you @Eggling I'm not sure what's stopping them now either. I will start looking at other clinics at this rate x

Jacky83 · 02/07/2020 09:16

@Bruce2 I'm having a last minute wobble too. Sent a long email to my clinic with my concerns. Got a one line response a day later. Can't figure out if I'm overthinking things and panicking or my concerns are real.

Feel like there is a distinct lack of communication but get the impression that might be the same at most clinics and pulling out now to try a different clinic will just result in delays and they won't necessarily be any better.

I'm rabbit in the headlights at the moment, no idea which direct to move in.

Oh no that's not good. Could you ask for a zoom session to alleviate any concerns.
My clinic have been absolutely wonderful, so super communicative and prompt so that's not my concern. I'm very fortunate.

I'm worried I'm too old and I've left too big an age gap between kids to start again. I'm worried that I can't split my time between children and one feels left out.
We've had IVF in 2015 which was successful then 2 failed Frozen Transfers from same batch.
So needing to go fresh again.
We now have a 9.5 year old, a 4 year old and wanted one last hurrah as 3 was always our ideal number! But I am just worried that 1. It doesn't work and we have put a lot of money into it & I'm 35 already

  1. Can we afford nursery fees and still give the children we have a good quality of life.

I know people make it work, I'm just worried I'm biting off more than I can chew

On other hand, having had 2 failed FET I'm not counting my chickens, I am very realistic that this may not working for us anyway.

Just lots of thoughts!!

Jacky83 · 02/07/2020 10:46

@Bruce2 You are not too old!! I'm 37 and we're trying for our first. If it works then I'll be going through all this again in a couple of years in the hope of a sibling.

I don't have children so can't speak from experience but I would have thought the good thing about an age gap is your older kids don't need as much from you so you have a bit more time to give to a new-born than you would if you had a baby and a toddler.

Sounds like you need to sit down and do some sums to reassure yourself, but I'm sure you've given this a lot of thought already and are having a last-minute wobble.

If it helps at all in my day job I'm a financial journalist and I do money makeovers. Could do you if you wanted to help you be certain your finances are in a good place.

That's very kind of you thank you
I may take you up on that offer :)

Mseddy · 03/07/2020 12:31

Hey everyone

@CardboardCat no they aren't changing anything unfortunately. I was already on maximum stims for the first round (although I wasn't aware of this at the time). So same dose again for me from a stims point of view. Things that have been changed are more to do with supplements. Last time my bloods where done in July (post a very sunny holiday!) and my Vitamin D was borderline and my TSH was slightly over the threshold they prefer. I didn't cycle until late October and by the time my bloods where rechecked in the Feb my Vitamin D was in my boots and my TSH was way over the threshold, meaning its likely they where already out of wack when I cycled! I was pretty mad at my clinic over this for a while, but now I'm just self monitoring which means I'm more in control, although it shouldn't be that way. Im on thyroxine after talking to the nurse at my pre cycle consult and both my TSH and Vit D are well within range now so I'm hoping that has an impact! Ive also started on a few more supplements too.

@EllieEskimo my clinic has restarted them but they are online. Mine was pretty straight forward as my protocol is exactly the same as last time and I don't need teaching how to inject as I'm a nurse. Have they given any indication when they might start doing this?

@Jacky83 sorry you are having a wobble. One thing I learned from my first cycle is I really wish I hadn't have rushed it. When my bloods came back as borderline and they seemed happy so I went with it because I couldn't bare to wait another month or 2, I now wish I had taken the time to make things perfect. I know your worry with your clinic is more about communication, but if you aren't 100% happy and you go ahead, you run the risk of blaming yourself if it doesn't go to plan. I know I blame myself a little now.

@Bruce2 you are no where near too old!! I think everyone gets cold feet at points. I'm pretty sure if it ever actually works and I ever end up pregnant I'll probably have a moment where I think "OMG what have we done!!"

EllieEskimo · 03/07/2020 16:53

@Mseddy thanks for your message and good luck with this next cycle! I have emailed my clinic again and was a lot more direct this time, as I really feel like they've been fobbing me off so far! Anyway, they've said they'll be starting them in a couple of weeks online like your clinic has done, but then there'll be further delays to then start treatment due to reduced capacity. How long that delay is, who knows?! I'm glad your levels are in the target range this time, that really could make all the difference, fingers crossed!

CardboardCat · 04/07/2020 18:06

@EllieEskimo Well done being direct! Hope the delay isn't too long for you.

My clinic have been ok so far but my Dr is so busy that if I miss a call from him (happened twice- neither pre-arranged) then it takes ages to get back in touch. He currently has something he wants to discuss with me but because I missed the call I've had to book a phone consultation for July 15th which is annoying. Think it's to discuss whether I need a saline ultrasound before we start.

@Mseddy When you say self monitoring what do you mean? I've just ordered some Thriva tests to check my vit d and iron levels (and some other bits and pieces because I love this type of stuff).

Mseddy · 04/07/2020 23:38

@CardboardCat I just go to my GP and book a blood appt and tell them what I want them to measure and then review the results myself and speak to the fertility team with the results. It's just like neither the GP or clinic will take ownership for who should be requesting bloods so neither do.

OP posts:
EllieEskimo · 05/07/2020 11:40

@Mseddy I can't believe you're having to do all that yourself... Well done for taking matters into your own hands! And very frustrating for you too @CardboardCat having to wait two weeks because you missed the call... Sooo annoying!!
