August IVF

Had a quick look through but can't find an existing thread. Anyone due to cycle in August after a bit of moral support?

We are due to start our 2nd cycle of icsi for male azoospermia and my premature ovarian aging (full house for us!)

@Mseddy amazing that your work are so supportive, it definitely takes the pressure off!

@seven201 hope you’re feeling a little better today x

Omg I’ve just been for my AFC, and they said it’s next Monday?! I thought it day to be done on days 2-4 of your cycle?!

Mseddy · 13/07/2020 08:50

@Raggity19 an AFC can be done at any point in your cycle, mine is in 2 and a bit weeks and I'm CD 4 now so don't worry. When are you starting treatment?

Does anyone have a protocol yet? I'm on 450 meriofert for stims, fymerdal to prevent early ovulation and I can t remember the name of my trigger shot. Protocol is exactly the same as last time so I'm hoping for similar amount of eggs but hopefully better quality!

@Ails826 I'm on the fence. Some days I'm really for it and I even argued for it at my consultant follow up after last time, but then some days I'm not. If we only get a few decent blasts I'd rather the safety net of one in me one in the freezer. If we had quite a few then I would consider 2. If we had lots of fair ones that were not good enough to freeze I would want 2. This is what happened on our first cycle, one went in and the other blast was discarded as it wasn't good enough to freeze. I often wonder if thing would have been different had I argued for them both to go back. In regards to a twin pregnancy, I see the detrimental effects on a daily basis at work as I'm a neonatal nurse. Twins are much more likely to deliver premature or growth restricted, the IVF clinic aren't just trying to scare us to keep their multiple rates low. If i fought for 2 to go back and then had complications due to a multiple pregnancy I'm not sure I would ever forgive myself. However almost everyone I know who has had multiple rounds of IVF have got pregnant the time when they had 2 put back vs 1 put back although only had singleton pregnancies. I'm sure you can tell just from me writing this that i literally change my mind minute by minute! My argument to my consultant was since my AMH is more that of a 40 year old then surely I should be treated in the same category and if you are over 40 you are allowed up to 3 eggs back! (I would NEVER want 3 back)

@Ails826 I think it depends. If you're on the older side then I'd consider it. In a way I'm lucky in that the decision is taken out of my hands. I had a complicated pregnancy with my doctor so the doctor has been very clear with me that I should only ever put one in.

@Raggity19 I don't think I've ever had an AFC (just googled what it was!), unless that's part of what they do at a baseline scan. It's exciting that it's so soon for you.

Raggity19 · 13/07/2020 09:02

@Mseddy oh ok phew!! Can’t believe I turned up today haha. No not yet, hoping to know next week after the actual AFC. I was on Meriofert for my first cycle - I think I started on 225 and then went up to 375 as wasn’t responding as quickly as they hoped. Have you had it before? I found it fine, just a little nauseous for a couple of days.

Ails826 · 13/07/2020 09:10

@Mseddy that is so interesting and that your a neonatal nurse wow. Okay we are so on the fence i actually really wanted twins but now maybe we are being a bit greedy because the risks scare me and like you saod Im not sure I could ever forgive myself if anything happened to them

I had such a big chat with our doctor but he has also pretty much said he wouldnt be surpised if it worked first time but also wouldnt be surpised if it didnt and so im trying to be realistic but positive

I had a AFC months before my cycle and it was a few days into cycle i think CD5 or 6 xx

Mseddy · 13/07/2020 10:11

@seven201 AFC and baseline scan are the same thing just a different name.

@Ails826 I still haven't fully decided yet I think. Plus its harder to fight for something you want when you are by yourself because as it stands my husband still isn't allowed in.

@Raggity19 I didn't really get any side effects that I remember! I was on 450 last time too which is the max dose my clinic give. How many eggs did you get last time?

OP posts:
Ails826 · 13/07/2020 10:22

@Mseddy yes me too id really like twins but the risks scare me so much and so now im thinking we try one then 2 if it doesnt work x

Raggity19 · 13/07/2020 11:10

@Mseddy yeah I think as far as stims go it’s an alright one! I was nervous as expected lots of side effects but was pleasantly surprised. I got 14, only 9 mature though so I think they will want to change my protocol this time round. Although to be fair I’d be very happy with 9 mature again. Before I started this I was so concerned with numbers and wanted to get as many as possible but now feel like as long as I get a couple of good quality ones, I’ll be happy. How many did you?

seven201 · 13/07/2020 12:51

@Mseddy oh I see! Thank you

Mseddy · 13/07/2020 17:49

@Raggity19 I got 10 which my consultant was really surprised with. 8 were mature, 6 fertilised and 2 made it to blast stage but the second one wasn't good enough to freeze. I'm the same. I was so chuffed with 10, but I feel like maybe they pushed me too much and I got 10 bad quality rather than a few good ones. Ive been taking DHEA to try and improve my egg quality this time around, and I'm on thyroxine to keep my TSH in a better range

OP posts:
Raggity19 · 13/07/2020 17:54

@Mseddy that’s amazing in terms of numbers! I did notice you’d said you have POF earlier in the thread (I think) - how do they know this? As 10 eggs surely suggests otherwise! Were you prescribed DHEA?

zoeyj · 15/07/2020 16:30

Hi All
Is it okay if I join? I’m TTC #2. I’ve got one DD from a successful fresh transfer in 2016 and two failed FETS since (one was a double embryo transfer) One in September 2019 and one last month sob sob. I really didn’t want to have to go through egg collection again but I really want a sibling for my girl so here goes :)

My cycle is irregular so I’ve just started Provera for about five days to being on a period and then I’m ready to start. I’m excited but also nervous! It’s so nice to share my journey with others who are in the same boat/understand xxx

Ro198 · 15/07/2020 17:26

Hi @zoeyj, I am starting in around 7 days so nearly the same timeframe as you. This is my first round and I’m also excited but nervous at the same time!

80SM · 15/07/2020 17:51

Hi ladies, I'm also waiting for my period to start in about 9 days. Counting days now Grin

zoeyj · 15/07/2020 18:18

@Ro198 + @80SM
Hiiii, yay! Lots of sticky dust for us all!
Have you both been trying for long? My issue is 'skinny pco' + immune problems (high NK cells). What about you guys? (If you're happy to share). xxx

Ro198 · 15/07/2020 18:51

hi @80sm! I’m glad there are others going through this at around the same time, although obviously wish none of us needed it!

@zoeyj we’ve been trying for around 3 years and we have unexplained infertility

80SM · 15/07/2020 23:04

zoeyj , we have a male factor - viscosity I think it’s called, plus my age (I’m almost 40), although my amh is still quite high 33.1. AFC is also high I was told 33.
Lots of luck for all of us !

Sabz36 · 16/07/2020 08:57

Good Morning All,

Finally got a call from the clinic to restart ivf treatment. 2nd time around fingers crossed

kikisparks · 16/07/2020 10:02

@Sabz36 that’s good, fingers crossed for you. When do you start?

Mseddy · 16/07/2020 10:26

Hi Smile welcome to the new people. It’s nice that so many of us are close in dates and can support each other.

@Raggity19 my AMH is only 6 (or it was 18 months ago, god knows now!) and the 10 eggs I got given the poor response where classed as very low quality hence them sticking me in the POF group. When they asked me to do some digging it turns out there is a family history on my dads side. Apparently it’s odd for that to affect me but my body type is more similar to my paternal gran and Aunt than my mum, so that’s a sign that my fertility may also follow that side of the family. My nan and aunt both hit menopause in their late 30’s

OP posts:
Raggity19 · 16/07/2020 10:52

@Mseddy ah ok! This is where I get confused (and a bit worried!) as my AMH is 12 and I’m only 31 which seems very low to me for my age. But every consultant I’ve discussed it with just says it’s slightly on the low side but nothing to worry about..
The fact we got zero fertilisation is also a worry - can I ask how they knew yours were poor quality? I asked the embryologist and she said my eggs looked ‘perfectly normal’ and they were confident it was a sperm issue, but I’m confused as to how they would actually know this! Sorry if you’ve written this before - I lose track in groups - but how many of yours fertilised? As I’ve read that usually the embryos that drop off after day 3 are a sperm issue x

Raggity19 · 16/07/2020 11:06

@Mseddy sorry you already answered previously about fertilisation 🤦‍♀️ I just read it

Sabz36 · 16/07/2020 12:16

@kikisparks I have to wait for my week to start estrogen. I had a transfer in jan which unfortunately failed. So I have asked for a ERA test as I have heard it may be a way of explaining why it didn't work. I got 16 eggs and 10 fertilised 9 to 5 day blastocyst. Whilst the consultant didn't recommend me having the test (due to it only being recommended to patients who have multiple failed FET)I felt that as I'm paying privately it was important for my expensive peace of mind to ensure that every avenue had been explored prior to another transfer.

Mseddy · 16/07/2020 15:16

@Raggity19 most of ours that arrested did so before day 3 so i guess that's why they thought it was my eggs? Not 100% sure though. I guess my AMH and the fact we only got 2 blasts make them think it was my eggs. They did mention that they had to defrost 5 times the amount of sperm than they normally would in order to find enough good sperm to fertilise the eggs because the sperm was really poor quality too. Basically we are trying to make the most complicated recipe with shit ingredients and putting betting our savings and sanity on it! Some days you just have to laugh or you will cry I guess!

OP posts:
Raggity19 · 16/07/2020 15:20

@Mseddy ah ok yes I think I’ve read that. Yes we had similar with the sperm - she said she spent hours going through it trying to find a suitable one! Nightmare really isn’t it because it’s so difficult to know what the actual issue is and no way of knowing without multiple goes and lots of money! Hopefully round 2 will be a success for both of us. I was tempted to go for more natural IVF this time to improve the quality of eggs but when we saw Dr Ramsay he said try and get as many eggs as possible. Oh totally!!
