elleceedee · 28/07/2020 16:05

@pattaz2711 sending hugs to you. Are they getting someone else for a second opinion now?

OP posts:
pattaz2711 · 28/07/2020 16:08

They've told me to stop medication an to re scan next week but it's not going to continue

pattaz2711 · 28/07/2020 16:39

@elleceedee there's no point I don't think he said the medication is thee red only thing keeping it there..
Anyone else heard this @ivfdreaming

elleceedee · 28/07/2020 16:51

I'm so sorry @pattaz2711 what awful news. I was told the same thing with one of my miscarriages and it's just heartbreaking.

OP posts:
pattaz2711 · 28/07/2020 16:56

@elleceedee did they do any other test?

I don't understand it..

elleceedee · 28/07/2020 17:01

@pattaz2711 no, just scans and based on that said the pregnancy was not viable and as the medication was the only thing stopping the miscarriage from beginning. I think after I stopped the meds I think it took a couple of days for everything to start, which was quite good as it gave me time to mentally prepare.

@elleceedee mines still visible there's still a heart beat just not that strong

BabySweet85 · 28/07/2020 17:26

@pattaz2711 I'm so sorry this is happening. Have you had any spotting previous to today’s scan that would have indicated it? It’s awful news - i hope you are being looked after today x

pattaz2711 · 28/07/2020 17:31

@BabySweet85 no spotting just hasn't grown an can't really see the heart beat anymore

ivfdreaming · 28/07/2020 18:11

@pattaz2711

I'm so so sorry

I have heard that IVF medications can mask/stop a miscarriage - usually progesterone is what stops the bleeding happening - but I've never heard of the medications keeping a heartbeat going

duckhouse · 28/07/2020 19:28

@Pattaz2711 Read your post and thought of replying.. i just had a miscarriage post FET ( 1 week back) in my 7th week of pregnancy. I had bleeding on a day before my viability scan and on scan i was confirmed my pregnancy is not viable so clinic asked me to stop all medication as it was preventing m/c to start. Infact my hcg was within 7 week range. I stopped medication and next day i bleed and eventually hcg came down.. i am still under observation though to make sure pregnancy clears naturally.. medication does prevent m/c.

pattaz2711 · 28/07/2020 19:40

@duckhouse @ivfdreaming but there still a flicker of a heartbeat I'm so worried if I stop this medication what if I'm actually making it worse.. I'm so confused.. there's been a heartbeat but measuring small.. well still measuring the same as last week.. I don't even know what to do or how I'm feeling.. I've got to wait another week to go back an see them x

elleceedee · 28/07/2020 20:15

@pattaz2711 did they give you an option of continuing medication and seeing what happens or did they say that despite the heartbeat it isn't viable? It sounds like they are viewing the size/lack of growth as a sign the pregnancy is not viable. With my miscarriage that I mentioned before, there wasn't a heartbeat at week 7 but everything else was growing and that's why they told me to stop the medication at week 9 (after two weeks waiting and further scans) as that was preventing the miscarriage happening. I'm so sorry you are going through this.

pattaz2711 · 28/07/2020 20:35

@elleceedee he said they are sure it's not going to continue by the size of it he would like it be wrong be he doesn't think it.. he said an there is a flicker heartbeat but he is sure its not going to... be can't say at this moment because of the heartbeat... he said let's talk about your medication this could be holding it back. He said so I'll make the decision for you an stop the medication an support you over this week an see you next week unless you bleed an then we will see you in EPU xx

duckhouse · 28/07/2020 21:28

@pattaz2711 understand it is really tough on you to make any decision with a heartbeat on..i guess all you can do is follow medical advise..i wish you strength to get through this difficult situation xx

pattaz2711 · 29/07/2020 07:57

I've been reading an Googling an it says the risk of miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat is very rare. I just don't get it. Do I get a second opinion or go by the fertility doctors. I can't stop crying I don't want to speak to anyone it's horrible..

Also please would you mind which clinics everyone uses please :) thanks partner said he doesn't want to use them again

elleceedee · 29/07/2020 08:13

@pattaz2711 I think the risk of miscarriage drops to about 10% when a heartbeat is detected at 6/7 weeks. It sounds like your consultant is saying that despite the heartbeat the size and lack of growth is more concerning at this stage, that must be really hard to hear. It might be worth getting a second opinion just to put your mind at rest that you're doing the right thing, I know I would find it hard to stop taking medication if there was still a heartbeat so I understand.

OP posts:
pattaz2711 · 29/07/2020 08:15

@elleceedee I just feel really stupid keep googling an coming on hear going on.. it's so hard I don't think I can do it again. I feel like such a let down

elleceedee · 29/07/2020 08:25

@pattaz2711 don't feel stupid, your feelings are totally valid and lots of us on here have felt the same at one point or another. It's a tough process, don't be so hard on yourself. Could you at least ring the clinic back and say that you are uncomfortable stopping medication when there is still a heartbeat - maybe they will talk through their reasons a bit more clearly for you.

OP posts:
ivfdreaming · 29/07/2020 08:29

@pattaz2711

I'm with Create

I got told the miscarriage rate drops to around 5% after a heartbeat is seen but to be honest I think those statistics are misleading as I think it also depends on the baby measuring the correct dates and the heartbeat being a certain rate. Sadly I know loads of people who have miscarried after seeing a heartbeat - more than those that have miscarried and never saw a heartbeat x

pattaz2711 · 29/07/2020 08:36

@ivfdreaming thank you. I always wait to hear your comments as you are honest thank you for all your support

elleceedee · 29/07/2020 09:40

@HT2101 how are you? Could the spotting be implantation bleeding? Really hope you've just got a late implanter and you see a BFP tomorrow x

OP posts:
HT2101 · 29/07/2020 10:12

Thanks @elleceedee I had hoped that the bleeding could be implantation but after another BFN today it’s failure number 4. Have just sobbed through my phone call with the clinic who advised to stop all medication. Will now have to pick myself up to do another cycle. Just feel like an utter failure and devastated that I can’t even do the one thing women are supposed to be able to do.

@pattaz2711 sorry your going through such a rough time as well. Sending you a big hug x
