IVF in Feb/March 2020?

Hello! I'm just wondering whether there are others starting their IVF journey in Feb/March 2020.

I am dealing with secondary infertility (male factor) and we have been TTC#2 for 16 months. We conceived naturally by some miracle back in July, but sadly had an early miscarriage (my third in total). We're now waiting to start ICSI IVF in early February.

Would love to hear from others doing the same. x

We have just watched the videos too. I actually ‘muted’ some as I didn’t want to know all the bad stuff!!!!!!!!!! I’m aware of the risks and I found it heavy evening tv watching!
@confused107 I’m sure you’ll get the drugs. I had loads delivered this week with no probs.

I think I’ll be starting my day 21 burselin injections a week earlier now as my period started today. I had thought it was going to arrive next week.

I’m slightly anxious about this one free nhs cycle not working and it being our only chance. We really really really don’t want to put ourselves though multiple cycles. 😬😬😬 but fingers crossed!! Xxxx

Youngatheart00 · 29/01/2020 20:03

@SpyroC I think you might be with the same group of clinics I am, I had a lot of videos to watch too (which was frustrating as I’ve been through it before!). I swear the forms and consents and vids took about 2 hours!

confused107 · 29/01/2020 21:21

@Youngatheart00 and @SpyroC that sounds familiar! Hours of videos with tests. I then had a call today as we had made a errors so had to re-do a couple! This is my second round and we didn't have to do it last time do think it must be a new thing. To be honest it would have been more helpful before my first cycle. It would have saved a whole lot of googling!

PineappleC · 30/01/2020 08:30

Oh we never had any videos! We're on nhs though so that might be why. What on earth are they testing you all on!? We do have all the forms though, I'm gonna make DH sit down and do them together in the next few days.

I am FINALLY on the nasal spray bit of the process. Scared to sneeze now 😅

ChatWithMe · 30/01/2020 10:33

Does anyone know why Buserelin injections are used for some and nasal spray for others? I'd take nasal spray over injections any day!! Trying to google itbut no real luck yet...

confused107 · 30/01/2020 11:07

@ChatWithMe I have been wondering the same. Back in September I was told that I would have the nasal spray instead of the injections as there was a shortage of the injection due to brexit, though it looks like I am going to be prescribed the injections now. I was told that there was no difference apart from the fact you had to do the nasal spray several times a day (which I was dreading around work TBH) and that the spray was slightly cheaper. This is on my lost of questions for today so if I find out any more I will let you know

PickleKid · 30/01/2020 11:14

Hi @ChatWithMe I don't have an contraceptives which did surprise me. And my injections are 53 not 57. The first injection is 42 and so the little boxes are two one offs- the rest are 10 packs.

I don't know as much about the drugs but I thought nasal sprays were for those doing FET and not starting with egg retrieval?

As for the supply I was really worried too. Homerton said I would be fine and there was stockpiling but that the people six months behind were more of a concern.

CarbsAndCheese · 30/01/2020 11:54

@ChatWithMe and @confused107 I asked about nasal spray vs injections. I was told that with the nasal spray you have to do it 6 times a day, 2 hours apart each time. With the injection its just once a day. I've opted for the injection because I'd rather just know it's done with instead of having it hang over me all day!

My period has finally started so I've called up to get the ball rolling! Really hoping that in my nurse appointment next week I get some of the paperwork or information you guys have been talking about because so far there has been nothing! Not a video in sight!

Crumpets124 · 30/01/2020 12:36

I did the nasal spray over the injections and it was fine. 4 sprays a day but I just had reminders in my phone and excused myself to the bathroom in work - the times were 7 11 5 11 so only two overlapped with work anyway. I would way prefer the spray to more injections but then I’m afraid of injections so it’s more stressful for me than the spray.

ChatWithMe · 30/01/2020 14:11

Ah ok that all makes sense. Thanks everyone for the clarification! If it's on the cards I'm going with nasal spray.

PickleKid · 30/01/2020 15:54

I didn't have a choice of a thing, and beggars can't be choosers when it's free on NHS, but man am I jealous that nasal spray is an option for some of you!

53 injections is downright terrifying!
42 Meriofort
10 Fyremadel
1 trigger shot

confused107 · 30/01/2020 16:18

Been to the clinic this afternoon. I'm having the Burselin injections then having menopur this time instead of the gonal f. I also found out that my NK % was 62.2%. Apparently the normal range is

ChatWithMe · 30/01/2020 17:05

Hi PickleKid I don't think you're missing out. The injections you mention aren't available in a nasal spray. You say:
53 injections of 42 Meriofort, 10 Fyremadel, and one trigger. Meriofert is FSH/LH to stimulate follicles. Fyremadel prevents you releasing the eggs before egg collection day. The trigger gets eggs to release on cue for Dr to collect when ready. The nasal spray is the down reg part of long protocol - generic name Buserelin, brand name Suprecur I think (to quiet your ovaries).

SpyroC · 30/01/2020 18:58

@UncleBrynsfishingtrip I wish I'd of muted it now! Very heavy in deed. I feel the same with the 1 nhs round too. 🤞🏻 we get lucky first time.

@Youngatheart00 @confused107 Yea it sounds like the same group. Gosh if I have to do a 2nd time they can play to an empty room. It defo takes over 2 hours. I've still got some forms to do tonight 🙄. It was stressing us out last night so I put it away.

@PineappleC mines nhs funded too but don't worry you're not missing out. It's a bit too informative and then the bits you need to know I already do.

I asked about the injections vs nasal spray too and was told similar to @CarbsAndCheese plus that some people like the injections more due to feeling like they know it's definitely gone in. They gave me a choice but as they prefer injections I just went with it. I figured I've gotta do it for sims anyway. Plus 4 times a day whilst working in a school would be a pain.

@confused107 I think that's the same drugs as me but I haven't been tested for NK.

Crumpets124 · 30/01/2020 19:22

My DH just broke his arm terribly! 4 days before our last try natural cycle ovulation day and a month before Our IVF where he is supposed to drive me to and from egg collection etc. argh Sad

UncleBrynsfishingtrip · 30/01/2020 19:56

Just checked and my Burselin are injections and not spray.

@Crumpets124
Yikes!!! Sorry to hear this! How did he break it?Could you both get a taxi their together or a family/friend to help on the way back if you feel rotten on EC day? Sending love 💓 Xx

everpessimistic · 30/01/2020 20:13

Hi can I introduce myself? Start IVF this month, final consent on Monday and then norestherone on day 21 (Valentine’s Day lucky me!)
I’ll be on short protocol 150 menopur and fyrmadel and it will be a freeze all cycle.
Good luck everyone I’ll be crossing everything for everyone

ChatWithMe · 30/01/2020 20:41

Sorry to hear that crumpets24. Poor guy. Must have been painful and stressful knowing his upcoming responsibilities.

Welcome everpessimistic!. What is it about Feb 14th with this group of ours lol

maggiemoi · 31/01/2020 00:52

Hello, first time IVFer - just finished my education videos and consent forms and now waiting to start ICSI on 14/15th Feb. Have been reading every post on here but just posting for the first time. Can I join?

granddesigns · 31/01/2020 06:35

Morning all - just a mini update after our appointment. AF due 3/2 but drugs arrive tomorrow and they added on a few days of the pill to buy a little time so injections of Meriofert start 7/2! A little scary, exciting and super quick! Spent last night making diary reminders in code for all the injections and trying to get head round the likely dates - currently EC looks like 17/2 and ET 22/2 - can't believe this time next month we will hopefully be waiting again!

CarbsAndCheese · 31/01/2020 10:28

@Crumpets124 gosh that sounds awful! How did that happen? I hope you'll find a way around all the transport issues and that it won't stop him from being able to do his job on the day.

@everpessimistic and @maggiemoi welcome to the starting 14/15th february crew! Its weird how so many of us seem to be starting that weekend!

@granddesigns how exciting! It all seems so quick for you! I'm with you on the writing in code in my diary, ive come up with the most random abbreviations!

granddesigns · 31/01/2020 11:23

Thanks @CarbsAndCheese - yes it's really quick but we were waiting on an NHS decision from mid October until mid jan and then couldn't get a appointment to go privately until this week so they were keen to start things as soon as possible. I was just worried AF would have other ideas but they had an answer for that too!

UncleBrynsfishingtrip · 31/01/2020 17:15

A warm welcome to @everpessimistic and @maggiemoi this is the luckiest IVF thread to be part of !!! Let’s hope!! 🤞 fingers crossed 🤞

I really want to switch off this weekend but I find I’m constantly googling/researching and thinking about IVF stuff. Are you ladies all the same?

I need to chill otherwise I’ll drive myself and everyone around me mad!!!!! Xxx

SpyroC · 31/01/2020 17:50

@granddesigns how exciting to think that this time next week you will be starting.

Yea it seems to consume everything doesn't it. I don't think about it all at work or when I'm out but any down time I have it creeps in. Mind you the videos and forms haven't helped. I have so far resisted the urge to google all the different drugs to see if I agree with what they've put me on. I need to occupy my brain this weekend!

granddesigns · 31/01/2020 17:55

Always something in the IVF journey! Last thing that was 'just a formality' was a Vitinho d test - currently not letting me start due to it being too low! Currently trying to see how quickly i can can increase it but suspect we are now onto next month!
