IVF in Feb/March 2020?

Hello! I'm just wondering whether there are others starting their IVF journey in Feb/March 2020.

I am dealing with secondary infertility (male factor) and we have been TTC#2 for 16 months. We conceived naturally by some miracle back in July, but sadly had an early miscarriage (my third in total). We're now waiting to start ICSI IVF in early February.

Would love to hear from others doing the same. x

@PickleKid Day 21 for me is roughly 4 Feb, so we might end up being cycle buddies! I'm going to be on long protocol. Not sure why it starts on day 21, to be honest. 🤷‍♀️

Happy New Year, everyone! Healthy eating and no alcohol starts tomorrow for me. 😭 Tons of cheese and Prosecco tonight!

Gosh what a rollercoaster PickleKid Sounds like you dodged a bullet and the union with your new partner is a happy ending. Fingers crossed you'll have your bundle of joy by next Christmas!

Hello everyone. Popping on if I can. Will be starting our second round of ivf in a couple of weeks when AF arrives. Our first and only funded cycle failed in August and we needed a little time to get over it. This is a stretch for us financially so will be our last go. It's tough but I'm glad to have found some people in the same position to chat with. Only identified issue is low AMH which I think was 4.something a year ago. Paid for a retest in October but haven't been brave enough to phone and get the result

Yorkshirehope · 03/01/2020 20:47

Hi all - happy new year x met with our consultant yesterday, she explained a little about why she thinks it didn’t work the first two times ( my eggs are getting on ! Hard to hear) but she supports us going again so February should be on. Third time lucky? Hope so xx

ChatWithMe · 03/01/2020 22:43

Welcome to the group confused107 Sorry August wasn't your month :-( Good luck with your next/final go. Fingers crossed! Let us know your AMH result when you muster up the courage to ring clinic. I want an AMH test this month if they can do it when I go in for my day 11 scan (pre-IUI). Can't wait for all this IUI business to be done so we can finally try again at IVF (ICSI to be specific).

Happy new year to everyone! That's good news Yorkshirehope - nice to have some info and a plan in place. Hopefully third time's the charm!

So, my good news is my clinic was happy to book my pre-IVF consultant appointment today for 26.2.20 (even though I have one more pesky IUI to go). Then my period would kick things off first week in March :-) Still a wee bit of time to wait but at least something in the calendar!

waitingforarainbow · 04/01/2020 19:57

Welcome @confused107 ! I had my AMH tested in June and I can't actually remember the result (only that they said it was ok) as we weren't that serious about doing IVF at the time. Interestingly I've been reading a book called 'Get A Life' which is an account of a couple going through IVF. The author says she really wishes she hadn't found out her AMH as it was low and made her panic and obsess over it unnecessarily, when actually she conceived on both her second and third round of IVF (second was sadly a miscarriage but third was a live birth). She advises people to think carefully about whether they want to find out their AMH or whether they just leave it in the hands of the IVF clinic, as for her it just caused unnecessary stress and upset. Just a thought (for both you and @ChatWithMe ) I was going to ask for my number again but reading the book made me decide not to!

I do see you're point waitingforarainbow but I'm one of those people who like to find out everything possible lol I'm guessing mine is a 3 at this point.

juneybean · 04/01/2020 20:36

My low AMH is the reason I've having IVF Confused mine was about 4.6 in June 2018 haven't had it tested since but still have weight to lose but the optimist is hoping for starting in March! :)

ChatWithMe · 04/01/2020 22:37

Good luck juneybean Smile

confused107 · 05/01/2020 15:50

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome

It's interesting about hearing everyone's take on AMH. Mine was last tested last January and I called the clinic ahead of the follow up appointment for my failed cycle to ask if we could request a re-test which they did at the same appointment just before we went in to see the consultant. When we went in for the appointment and mentioned it he said there was no point as we don't know what my AMH was by the time we actually did the IVF in July and we should save our money. By this point I had already paid and had the blood taken. He is right I guess. If it has dropped dramatically we will never know if that's happened since or before the last round.

He did recommend upping my Q10 supplement and to keep going with the DHEA, Melatanin, folic avid and vitamin D. Not sure what good they do but it's nice to feel like I'm doing something. Diet overhaul starts this week!

juneybean · 05/01/2020 19:05

How much DHEA are you taking? I bought some by accident (think I meant to get ubiquinol...) and am interested to see if it will help with egg quality.

confused107 · 05/01/2020 20:55

Hi @juneybean. I have been told to take 3 X 25ml a day but worth double checking with your consultant as there can be side effects. I also take the ubuntall q10. My understanding is that the DHEA is for quantity and the q10 for quality but my knowledge is limited!

ChatWithMe · 06/01/2020 15:18

All this talk of supplements has got me googling again! Because some of you mentioned CoQ-10 and DHEA I went out shopping for them. I bought a seed/nut mix with added CoQ-10. I asked at H&B about vegan DHEA and she didn't know about it. So I researched some more and decided I'd ask my fertility consultant about it at the appointment Feb 26th. I'm gonna get my husband to have some of the CoQ10 mix too as it's good for guy's fertility apparently. I hadn't heard of the importance of melatonin in fertility and I read that it's a balance. If you get good sleep you don't have to worry. Apparently if you take too much it can impair ovulation.

I also read about immune testing but the HFEA recommend against it. But that's just an aside. Thanks for the ideas on supplements and meds ladies!

So I tallied up how many of us there are in this group now. I make it 11 :-)

I guess that means according to stats that 3 or 4 of us will get pregnant this time round, right? The last MN group I was on was 6 of us and 2 ladies got lucky, one with twins! Not me, obviously :-/

Fredsgirl19 · 06/01/2020 18:31

Hello ladies - may I join? Was due to start our first NHS cycle last Thursday but clinic couldn’t fit me in so I’m now waiting for my next period due 30th Jan. we are doing short protocol. Main reason is MFI due to chemo but I also have PCOS and a history of recurrent miscarriage prior to DH cancer diagnosis . It will be nice to have some people to talk it all through with. I’m only just over the major disappointment of having to postpone. I was all geared up and ready to go!

BeHereNowx32 · 06/01/2020 19:46

Getting even closer to starting for everyone. I really hope that I can keep up with the thread. I will try my best.

@Fredsgirl19 it’s so hard having to wait. I used to constantly count down the days, weeks etc until my next appointment or treatment. Hopefully you can do nice things to distract yourself!

Still a little while for me. I won’t be phoning until the end of February and then starting treatment for FET a few weeks after that xx

juneybean · 07/01/2020 20:19

Welcome @Fredsgirl19 !

So I got weighed at work today and have put 8lb on over Christmas Shock, going to try my best for a few weeks to try and get it back off with hopes to get the IVF kickstarted in March, but no holding out much hope.

I have no idea what kind of protocol I'll be doing, with low AMH I'd expect short? But not sure?

confused107 · 08/01/2020 11:53

I feel your pain @juneybean 9lb on for me!

I'm due to start at the end of the month, so whilst I'm eating healthy and back at the gym I can't see me shifting it in time. According to the clinic though time will be more of a factor than weight so I'm best to get on with it. Dread to think what state I will be in afterwards as they are giving me steroids this time too

I also have low AMH but I'm on long protocol, think it's very dependent on the advise of your clinic

juneybean · 08/01/2020 11:57

See they won't talk to me properly until my BMI is lower so have no idea what the crack is. Sigh! So hard to lose weight, been trying since May.

confused107 · 08/01/2020 12:28

I completely sympathise. I'm an emotional eater so I find it harder in times of stress.

I understand their point, you do hear of people loosing weight then suddenly conceiving, however I personally know of several people who were classed as obese when they fell pregnant naturally so who knows really

The weight thing is the one thing I felt guilty about from last time as my BMI was 27. Even though they said it made no difference it was something I felt I could have done better, now I'm probably heading into this next round worse. The thing is I've never felt better. I've been working out with a PT and feel so strong!

For me the worse thing about IVF is the guilt and fear of not doing the right thing especially in terms of weight, diet and supplements but there is so much conflicting advise and it's so easy to have this treatment take over every part of your life if you let it so please be kind to yourself

UncleBrynsfishingtrip · 24/01/2020 18:29

Hey ladies,

Can I join please?
I start Buserelin on Day 21 of my cycle (Feb)
How do I I know whether I am in long or short protocol? Xx

ChatWithMe · 24/01/2020 20:26

Welcome UncleBrynsfishingtrip - I love the username Grin From what little I know about it sounds long to me... Ladies please correct me if I'm wrong. I do short protocol. I take the contraceptive pill from day 1 of my period, then stop after 2 weeks if scan ok, get a withdrawal bleed then start stimming injections for 2 weeks, then have egg collection and later transfer (if all goes well).

My own update: I had my last IUI today (finally done with them phew). My followup with consultant Feb 26th to order meds for IVF cycle starting March 8th (ish).

Where is everyone else at? Still not even February I know but soon we'll all be in track!

Sparks2020 · 24/01/2020 20:28

I start the fertility drugs tomorrow and hopefully egg retrieval in Feb...

Mrsmch123 · 24/01/2020 21:50

Hi ladies can I join?im awaiting my period then hopefully be able to get booked in this cycle. Due the 4th so not to long a wait😬

UncleBrynsfishingtrip · 25/01/2020 08:08

Thanks for the advice!

@Mrsmch123 - We will be starting our meds at the same time as my period is due around then also. Wohoooo!

It’s all happening REALLY quickly since the referral! 👏🏻

Remember to be kind to yourselves during this exciting/busy/appointment filled time ladies 💗💗💗💗💗 xxx

BeHereNowx32 · 25/01/2020 09:02

@ UncleBrynsfishingtrip hi. I done the long protocol, which sounds like what you’re doing. I took the contraceptive pill for 2 weeks (not every clinic does this) then day 21, I started injections. These went over 3/4 weeks. Then, egg collection. Good luck :)

I phoned the clinic yesterday to confirm treatment. I won’t be due my period for another 4 weeks. Honestly, I’m not in a rush. I don’t feel emotionally or physically fit to do it just yet. Need to spend my time doing nice things, and definitely drink more water etc! 😓

Hope everyone else is feeling ok as can be before starting x
