IVF in Feb/March 2020?

waitingforarainbow · 19/12/2019 08:01

Hello! I'm just wondering whether there are others starting their IVF journey in Feb/March 2020.

I am dealing with secondary infertility (male factor) and we have been TTC#2 for 16 months. We conceived naturally by some miracle back in July, but sadly had an early miscarriage (my third in total). We're now waiting to start ICSI IVF in early February.

Would love to hear from others doing the same. x

Going to have a chat with the husband when he gets back from work. I'm tempted to risk it, but obviously if I fall in the repercussions could be worse

confused107 · 18/03/2020 11:32

I'm just amazed that suddenly the benefits of the steroids that were sold to us when we were considering whether or not to pay for another round are suddenly 'negligible'. It's a very difficult decision. I know if this doesn't work now I will always wonder if this was the reason why

Robson13 · 18/03/2020 11:45

Hi everyone , sorry I haven't been on here for a while.I'm doing frozen egg transfer and just been to the hospital for scan to check womb lining. They're planning to go ahead with transfer next Thurs but I was told they are just taking things a day at a time and on advice from the bigger hospital. They're hoping to complete the cycle for anyone who is part way through. I'll be devastated if we can go ahead with transfer on Thurs , especially knowing that my body is all prepped for the embryo to go in

SpyroC · 18/03/2020 12:01

Thanks all. I am back home recovering now. All went well and the whole process was way better than I thought it'd be. 7 eggs collected which is good for my AMH although I was hoping to get 9/9. The smaller ones must not have caught up but I'm still very happy. They advised against transfer (if we even have anything to) but it's up to us. They did say with lower numbers and endo they could see why I'd be more inclined to go ahead. They were not pushy. I'm going to take the cyclogest as if we're going ahead and then decide closer to the time.

@confused107 sorry you've had another curve ball. I think I'd weigh up my chances of actually getting corona. Stupid corona-why now!

@Robson13 it's such a hard choice. The consultant even said he wasn't sure what he'd do in my position.

confused107 · 18/03/2020 12:31

It really is unprecedented times for all of us. The consultant today said he understood my dilemma but that if he was my wife or sister he would want me to not risk my health.

I'm tempted to self isolate for two weeks and carry on taking them, then worry about it if I get a positive result. Just not sure I could live with the 'what ifs' if I stop

I hope everyone is doing ok. This process is hard enough without all of this happening

Well done on the collection @SpyroC - finger crossed for good news on your
Call tomorrow however you decide to proceed.

We haven't heard anything from our clinic other than an appointment for ET on Saturday so am half expecting a call in the next day or 2. I have a slightly stuffy nose but no temperature and a tickle in my throat so not the virus but am hoping it goes before we are due for the appointment if they do decide to go ahead.

Rumtopf · 18/03/2020 13:34

@SpyroC Glad it went well and they're planning to go ahead with transfer.

@CarbsandCheese hope all has gone well for you!

@Robson13 hope they go ahead with the transfer on Thursday, it's nerve wracking waiting to see what will happen.

@confused107 I'm sorry that you're having to make such a choice. If you can self isolate and not have to go out at all I would agree with you and be tempted.

@EmmaJ4142 I hope your treatment goes ahead, although it might be wise to mentally prepare yourself for it not to. As hard as that is.

@granddesigns fingers crossed they keep you scheduled in for ET on Saturday!

I had my day8 scan this morning to check progress. I've got a lazy right ovary with 2 follies, one at 13 and one at 11. My left is a bit busier with 6, one at 15, one at 12, 2 at 11 and 2 at 9mm. Just waiting to hear about any changes to my meds to get the 2 smaller ones to catch up. Also waiting for a call from the lead consultant as the clinic is saying everyone has to freeze all and have FET when guidance changes and we're allowed to go ahead. What a bloody nightmare. I've been and stocked up on my favourite red wine so if we can't go ahead at least I can enjoy something.

CarbsAndCheese · 18/03/2020 15:33

Thanks guys, home now. The procedure was fine and I got 8 eggs in the end. They came to see me in recovery and told me that as of today the decision has been made that everyone will be having a freeze all. I feel so miserable and like I can barely keep on going. I thought there would be more eggs, I feel like a failure, I feel like I won't get any blasts and even if I did the FET probably won't be for around 6 months etc etc. Is this just the anaesthetic making me feel so upset?!

Glad all went ok @SpyroC!

I'm delighted to hear that you got your transfer @confused107! What a rollercoaster! I am with you, I'd probably keep on with the steroids and self isolate.

Now my fingers are firmly crossed that everyone else gets to egg collection (at least!) before coronavirus shuts everything down 🤞

Robson13 · 18/03/2020 15:41

Glad to hear egg collections have gone well for people. I'm really shocked that hospitals are just freezing embryos. As if this isn't hard enough already

Rumtopf · 18/03/2020 16:31

@CarbsandCheese but 8 is good! Especially if they're all big and healthy. It could be the anaesthetic making you feel off kilter but tbh I'm feeling a similar way. Very deflated.

granddesigns · 18/03/2020 16:42

Exactly how I felt @CarbsAndCheese - kept it together when they told me it was good and lost the plot on dh when I was at home. They suggested there were loads of follicles, I don't understand where they went. That said 5 fertilised overnight so hopefully they are making progress but it's unknown now if that's for transfer or freezing I guess. Still not heard anything from clinic and don't want to ring to ask in case they just cancel it!

luby89k · 18/03/2020 16:58

My clinic are saying business as usual at the moment. But by the time i have egg collection i reckon i'll be in the same boat. The nurse did say they are having a meeting this evening to discuss new plans so i will see at my scan on Friday.

How many scans did you have before egg collection? And how many days did you stim? On Friday it will be day 10. I just hope they don't push egg collection back till Wednesday as i'm getting fed up with injections now.

Well done to both egg collections today! xxx

SpyroC · 18/03/2020 18:18

Good news on the scan @Rumtopf

5 is excellent @granddesigns ! I'll be chuffed if I get that tomorrow. The uncertainty is horrible isn't it. I hope you're clinic is still allowing choice.

@CarbsAndCheese well done and don't worry I'm sure it is just the drugs making you feel off. The lady after me came round and was in floods of tears bless her, must've been the drugs because she got 19 eggs! 8 eggs is great, it's probably just messed with your head having had more follies earlier on. Plus it's a triplet thing that we have 7-8 eggs! Hopefully, we will have some good news tomorrow. They already told me that 2 look like they may be immature so I'm hoping for 5 at most but realistically 3.

@luby89k I had 3 scans and stimmed for 11 days in the end.

The whole freeze all thing has annoyed me a bit. Our bodies, our embies, our choice. If they were telling the fertile population to stop I'd get it. I think when we've gotten so far it's cruel not to give us choice. My clinic did say that they had no choice but to stop those who haven't started stimming as the anaesthetists have been told they're needed elsewhere. This is a private clinic.

Hugs to everyone. Such a difficult time.

Twins2girls · 18/03/2020 19:32

Had two embryos transferred yesterday and today I have mild cramps and a headache, anyone else feeling the same after transfer?

SpyroC · 19/03/2020 09:27

Triplet 2 reporting 6/7 fertilised so I'm delighted with that! Some good news in this horrible time!

@Twins2girls this is my first time so I have no experience but the cramps sound promising!

@CarbsAndCheese thinking of you this morning. It was an anxious morning this morning. X

CarbsAndCheese · 19/03/2020 10:51

@SpyroC thats amazing! They told me yesterday that about 70% of eggs usually fertilise and then about 40% of those make it to blast. You're well above that 70% so I'm hopeful you'll get some good blasts!

@granddesigns have you heard anything from the lab today? Fingers crossed your 5 are doing well!

@Rumtopf how are you feeling today? It seems that we are all getting 7 or 8 eggs on this thread!

@luby89k i was scanned on days 8, 10, 11 and 13 and triggered on day 13. Any update from your clinic?

I think i must be at the only clinic that doesn't update on day 1! I have to wait until tomorrow to hear anything. They said they will call on day 2, 3, 5 and 6, if we get that far. I'm really struggling today, I feel so hopeless and like I can't go on. Meanwhile my hubby is (very much unlike his usual self) being some kind of eternal optimist and I just want to punch him. I'm trying to think of nice things to do to distract myself but the coronavirus situation is making things very difficult. I've settled on putting a swanky bottle of wine in the fridge and I'll probably just drink that and refuse to share it with Mr Positive 😂

granddesigns · 19/03/2020 11:03

@SpyroC congratulations! That's great news! Let's hope they keep growing!

@CarbsAndCheese not heard anything further - reading though here I feel shortchanged on the updates! My lab only called on day 1 and said they would call on ET day but we may have set off.... guessing if anything changes they will call tomorrow rather than sat!

Yes it seems the triplets are in 7/8 - hopefully our little embryos got the message and make it to blastocyst stage!

luby89k · 19/03/2020 11:48

@CarbsAndCheese I have a scan day 10 (tomorrow) if all is well hoping to trigger day 11, but i don't have a scan that day. They only scan mon, wed and friday. So if scan isn't good on day 10 i'll scan day 13 instead. All still going ahead so far so fingers crossed.

Don't panic about them not updating day one. I'm sure you'll be fine xx

SpyroC · 19/03/2020 13:02

@CarbsAndCheese sorry you are feeling low. The social distancing and working from home makes being occupied really tough! It's weird they don't update you on day 1 but I'm like @granddesigns I won't hear anything now until Sunday. They did say I can call if I want more updates but at the moment I'm feeling like I don't want the ups and downs it could bring. I think the freeze all thing is hard to get your head around too. My DH is also super optimistic and keeps telling me to get off my phone. He's probably right but it's so hard when there's not a lot else going on. I hope you've got plenty of lovely embies growing away.
Enjoy your Wine! X

Come on triplet embies!

I'm also routing for all the follies growing away. X

Pinktruffle · 19/03/2020 13:34

My test day is 2 days away. I feel like I'm getting more and more of my regular period symptoms though so I'm struggling to stay positive.

I'm high risk for Covid as I'm asthmatic, my mother in law who lives with us is over 70 and only has 1 kidney so is double high risk so I'm very much stuck at home and struggling to occupy myself so keep looking at things online which are just making me feel worse!

granddesigns · 19/03/2020 15:23

Looks like triplet 3 is down. Clinic hasn't called but website was updated this afternoon with cancellation of anything after collection. Awaiting the call now. Sad

SpyroC · 19/03/2020 15:47

I'm so sorry @granddesigns . The HFEA hasn't updated its statement since yesterday so perhaps there's a staff shortage due to self-isolation. Mine is currently still "strongly advising to freeze" but I'm expecting that to change in the coming days. I really hope this horrible business is all over soon so you and the others can get back to it as soon as. Getting your head around ivf in the first place is so tough and for this crazy situation to unfold now is terrible luck for us all. You never know when you speak to them, you may just squeeze through. x

@Pinktruffle hang on in there. Period symptoms don't mean anything as ppl who get bfps get them too. 🤞🏻 for you. X

Pinktruffle · 19/03/2020 15:51

Thanks @SpyroC, I'm trying my best to keep positive!

I'm so sorry @granddesigns. Hopefully you'll get some frozen and it won't be too long before we can have frozen transfers. The uncertainty of what's going on is really not helping any of us. I know it isn't easy for them to make decisions and release statements (by them I mean HFEA.m government etc) but some clarity would be really welcome right now.

granddesigns · 19/03/2020 16:06

Had the call and it's going to be a freeze cycle and don't expect to hear anything for some months- maybe summer. Processing now!
