IVF in Feb/March 2020?

Hello! I'm just wondering whether there are others starting their IVF journey in Feb/March 2020.

I am dealing with secondary infertility (male factor) and we have been TTC#2 for 16 months. We conceived naturally by some miracle back in July, but sadly had an early miscarriage (my third in total). We're now waiting to start ICSI IVF in early February.

Would love to hear from others doing the same. x

Aww that sucks @granddesigns. Just have some comfort in the fact that your embryos are 'in the bank' so to speak, I know this will be the longest wait. There is evidence to show more success with a frozen embryo, gives your uterus time to recover so try to focus on the small positives when things are getting you down.

granddesigns · 19/03/2020 16:20

Thanks folks! I hadn't moved from the bench I took the call on from the embryologist when the nurse rang with stopping drugs info! Going to be the longest of long waits! Trying to keep positive.

SpyroC · 19/03/2020 17:45

Yes there are 100% positives to this. Plus Borris has just said they think we could be in a better place in 12 weeks. That gives me some hope as in my head I'm worried thinking it'll be a year or something. 12 weeks I can cope with. My clinic have updated their website since my last post and it still looks like I have a choice but I'm honestly 50:50. @granddesigns did they tell you how your embryos are doing? X

Rumtopf · 19/03/2020 18:33

@granddesigns I'm sorry they're delaying you but glad to hear you're trying to be positive about it. Have they said how your embryos are doing? I hope it does turn out to be 12 weeks before they change the guidance back in our favour.

granddesigns · 19/03/2020 18:37

Thanks ladies, positive is easier said than done right now and I know the emotional overflow is coming, just not when! The update on the embryos was that they are doing well and all 5 are still developing, but that until now they have been using maternal resources and now they start to develop on their own so the next 2 days are crucial.

SpyroC · 19/03/2020 18:49

That's great @granddesigns ! Does that mean the sperm take over on day 4? For some reason I thought that was weeks along the line

granddesigns · 19/03/2020 18:53

He said it's maternal resources until day three then they start developing on their own.... I need to read more about what that means as wasn't really taking it in / it sounded like good news on a rubbish call!

Robson13 · 19/03/2020 19:05

@SpyroC that's great news on the fertilisation!
@granddesigns that's tough news to take. It's so hard doing IVF with all of this going on, hopefully you can complete the cycle soon. I'm still waiting to see if my frozen transfer will go ahead next week.

SpyroC · 19/03/2020 19:13

Hmm interesting maybe that means day 4 is when they start producing their own energy. It's all so fascinating.

Thanks @Robson13 I have my fingers crossed for you.

CarbsAndCheese · 20/03/2020 10:12

@SpyroC and @granddesigns how are you guys managing with the stress of the 5 day wait and then the thought of waiting for FET?

I am continuing on in good old triplet fashion- 8 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, all 7 fertilised! I am so so delighted! Having been so miserable with worse news at each appointment I was really expecting the worst today-it’s so nice to have some good news in such a worrying time! Obviously there’s a really long way to go but I am holding on to the 40% conversion to blast rate they told me and praying I can be perfectly average with that!!

I’m thinking of all of you who have an uncertain few days coming up, either with getting to egg collection or FET or waiting to test. @luby89k and @Rumtopf do you have a scan today? @confused107 what did you decide about the steroids? @Robson13 fingers crossed for transfer. @Pinktruffle how are you getting on? Argh, I can’t scroll back to read everyone’s posts and I know there are more people I want to ask after! Hope everyone’s managing ok.

granddesigns · 20/03/2020 10:26

@CarbsAndCheese that's fantastic! Congratulations! Fingers crossed for development and progress!

I'm just waiting for the call tomorrow to tell me how many made it and then on Sunday how many they will freeze. @SpyroC have you had contact from your clinic at all? Hoping the triplets won't all have to wait and will gladly see you proceed if your clinics are still treating... if not, we will have to have a thread in a few months time for 'feb/March ivf disrupted by Covid 19'

luby89k · 20/03/2020 10:44

@CarbsAndCheese that's great. Finally some nice news :)

Just had my scan now. I think my right ovary is being lazy as i have 6 follicles under 10, just waiting to go in to the consultation to discuss. Starting to get stressed 😔

Will update later xx

confused107 · 20/03/2020 10:48

@CarbsAndCheese that's fabulous news. Fingers crossed for more of it

Best of luck to the triplets and everyone else on here. We need more good news in times like this

I'm still taking the steroids for now and self isolating. I have no idea if I'm doing the right thing or not. I've had to come clean about my treatment with my employer as they sent out an email yesterday asking us to self declare and taking steroids was on the list. In all honestly I'm shitting it. I know I will never forgive myself if I give up and it's a BFN, but I'm literally working from home over thinking and Clovid-19 symptom spotting. Still makes a change from the constant pregnancy symptom spotting!

Pinktruffle · 20/03/2020 11:48

Well done @carbsandcheese, that's really good! I got 4 (one implanted, three frozen) from 9 so you should hopefully have a good conversion rate too!

I'm doing ok, testing tomorrow but trying not to think too much about it. I think work are angling for me to go back in as I had a text questioning my asthma this morning. My elderly in-laws live with and my MIL only has 1 kidney so is very vulnerable, I've informed them of this so see what they come back with.

luby89k · 20/03/2020 12:16

Finally got an answer. Freeze all at egg collection. Annoyingly they weren't closing any doors during consultations and as i was crying, a girl i know walked past on her way to surgery. Slightly mortifying as my husband wasn't with me.

granddesigns · 20/03/2020 13:20

Sorry to hear this @luby89k - the new FET gang is growing and trying to see a positive in all this it's good to know we have a ready made support group for that already formed!

SpyroC · 20/03/2020 14:19

That's great news @CarbsAndCheese ! It really cheered me up yesterday too. I'm hoping that a high fertilisation rate means the quality is ok. But time will tell. 🤞🏻

@granddesigns their website update yesterday was still "strongly advise to freeze". So at the moment I still have choice but I'm expecting that to be taken away any day now. Oddly I'm worrying more about the transfer or freeze situation than how my embies are developing which is stupid! I know this might sound crazy to those of you that haven't got the choice but I'm worried that continuing is too risky 🙈. I'm generally an anxious person, particularly when it comes to health. All the cancellations and the "strong advice" have unsettled me. DH is 100% we should go for it and he's probably right but Confused.Would you all definitely still go for it? I'm leaning that way. That's hoping there is anything to actually transfer. I'm sorry if this sounds insensitive to those of you that have been told no, it's all the cancellations that have bothered me I think.

@confused107 I here you. I'm actually down as "self isolating due to pregnancy at work". There wasn't a category for "ivf waiting-can't get corona as embryo may be going back in soon". I'm finding isolating ok but I got freaked out this morning when DH went to the supermarket. I found I didn't even want him near me after. Another thing that's making me question the transfer.

@Pinktruffle I have everything crossed for you tomorrow. I hope your work are understanding.

I'm so sorry @luby89k . Will they not even fertilise they eggs and freeze at day 5? Don't worry about your lazy ovary either almost all of us had that. Somebody posted to say it's normal as in a natural cycle one ovary would be doing all the work. X

Pinktruffle · 20/03/2020 14:48

@SpyroC I can see where you are coming from. I'm 37 in May and my age is against me so if I were to be offered a FET I would take it simply on the basis but if I were 5 years younger I would probably wait. Even things like access to food due to people panic buying is getting worrying.

I've had lots of period-esque pains today but I'm praying it's just embryo settling/growing pains

WarriorSmith · 20/03/2020 14:53

Hi all,

We've just got back from our review consultation and the advice our clinic has received is to reduce transfers to eliminate extra strain on the NHS with miscarriages and complications.
I watched a live video from Care today and they're saying the choice is yours, but we didn't really have a choice today- we've got to allow 2-3 months before starting a medicated FET.
I'd imagine all clinics will take each circumstance into consideration before giving their professional opinion.

Robson13 · 20/03/2020 14:58

That's a great number @CarbsAndCheese. @SpyroC when are you due to have transfer? I desperately want to go ahead with ours since I've spent the last 4 weeks prepping my body for it. I'm working from home now...not really sure whether their reasoning was because I have asthma (which really is seasonal) or if it's because of the IVF...my manager did ask what stage I'm at with the process. Either way I'm relieved not to have to go to work, I'm a teacher and I was getting anxious that I'd pick up the virus with the amount of people I was in contact with.

Rumtopf · 20/03/2020 15:24

Will reply properly in a bit to everyone, but 2nd scan was good and my right ovary is still lazy. Looks like 8 follicles still but 2 are on the smaller size. Egg collection booked for Monday morning.

SpyroC · 20/03/2020 15:27

I am younger @Pinktruffle but my AMH is only 5. I also have "mild" endo but who knows what the ivf drugs gave done to that. Essentially my reproductive system is not in top nick!

It's the NHS strain that worries me. I can hide from the world for as long as needed (although food supply us an issue) but if something goes wrong I'd likely be stuffed. The example the consultant gave was an ectopic.

I'm a teacher too @Robson13 luckily ivf appointments came at a good time in terms of keeping me out of it.

I'm leaning towards proceeding. At the end of the day there's a high likelihood of it being cancelled any way and then even if it isn't there's statistically a good chance of it not working too. Plus I need to get some embryos to actually transfer now!

Robson13 · 20/03/2020 16:02

@SpyroC did your consultant go through the risks of continuing with you? I hadn't really considered the risk to myself. They told me that it would be cancelled if staff needed to be called to work at another hospital to support the crisis

Pinktruffle · 20/03/2020 16:23

@SpyroC I want a bit more positivity than that, it works for lots of people and there is every chance it'll work for you. Even with the virus going around, if you're at home, there is every chance that things will go as planned and you will be fine.
