IVF in Feb/March 2020?

Hello! I'm just wondering whether there are others starting their IVF journey in Feb/March 2020.

I am dealing with secondary infertility (male factor) and we have been TTC#2 for 16 months. We conceived naturally by some miracle back in July, but sadly had an early miscarriage (my third in total). We're now waiting to start ICSI IVF in early February.

Would love to hear from others doing the same. x

Thanks luby89k what's your AMH may I ask? Mine is 6.5

PineappleC · 28/01/2020 08:43

@chatwithme Thanks 😊 It seems like ages away doesn't it! Hopefully all worth it in the end! You've made me a bit nervous about meds though - I only have the nasal spray, injections and progesterone, nothing that looks like a trigger shot. I will ask them!

I am on long protocol which they advised and I just didn't question. I think my amh is ok though.

luby89k · 28/01/2020 08:50

@ChatWithMe tbh i completely don't know, i don't understand anything about it. The number 12 was thrown about but i don't know what it's about or if that's even related to low AMH. When we chatted, he was curious as to why i had a low amh as he usually doesn't see it at my age, but we descovered everyone in my family goes through early menopause. I'm more confused as to why everyone has there meds before there period and i'm sat waiting not having a clue 🤦🏼‍♀️ I should ask more questions but when they ask me if i have any at the time I don't till i get home 🙈 xx

luby89k · 28/01/2020 08:53

@PineappleC Hey we must be nearly at the same stage, as i'm waiting for my period about the second. However with my EC scheduled for March i'm assuming they're must be giving me something before my long protocol starts as that's 6 weeks from my period. My 4. Maybes i should call up today to confirm what the hells going on 🙈 At least we will be down reg'g together! xx

CarbsAndCheese · 28/01/2020 09:13

@luby89k @confused107 and @PineappleC I think I will be similar timings to you! I'm waiting for my period to arrive before I can call up and get everything confirmed for this month! I have my nurse appointment next week where i am hoping i will get all the meds and then start downreg around day 19...if this period ever arrives!

@ChatWithMe I was given the option of long or short protocol. They told me that they would normally do long protocol for low AMH because it tends to get more eggs, whereas they do short protocol for people with PCOS because it gives more control in preventing OHSS. Because I dont have either it was my choice so I have opted for long. I know some clinics do a really long downreg, sometimes with a few weeks on the pill before starting injections, but for me its just 2 weeks of downreg injections and then 2 weeks of stim injections.

I just really want to get started so that I can feel like I'm actually doing something to help. Anyone else feeling like this?!

ChatWithMe · 28/01/2020 09:34

Hi luby89k - AMH 12 sounds good (only a wee bit low but nearer normal range :))

Hi CarbsAndCheese - thanks for clarification. Gosh I wonder what my consultant will say... Only one month away to find out at least.

Hi PineappleC - maybe you don't use it on your protocol? Mine was called Ovitrelle (HCG to release eggs at right time)

luby89k · 28/01/2020 10:25

@CarbsAndCheese Ahh this must be why mine is 6 weeks away cause i must start around day 19 too. That's what i'm waiting for my appointment to find out my whole plan. Hopefully that should be next week :) glad someone's doing a similar thing to me.

@ChatWithMe ahh that's a relief although i'm still non the wiser what a good AMH is and if that actually was mine 🤣 I must write all my questions down 🙈

PickleKid · 28/01/2020 10:40

Hi all, drugs have arrived today!! (dpd delivery) I have a friend who is ahead of me by a month and it's been great to see what's coming. So for those of you who haven't started I hope this is helpful.

36 years old (both)
6 years trying, 2nd partner
dermoid cyst and fibroids
slightly low FSH but mostly in range
No previous pregnancy or miscarriages
Him 20% reduced motility

Homerton, NHS
AMH 12
BMI 22
Short protocol

Pills start Feb 5
Pills stop Feb 14
Injections start Feb 14

So what's in the box?
Well, all of it!
42 injections including the trigger shot
75 (75!!!) pessaries
Nothing for the fridge

We are both doing updated bloods tomorrow because it's been slow long. (NHS waitlist was nearly a year).

Scan on 13 after the pills- and will teach us how to do the injections.

That's all for now!

IVF in Feb/March 2020?
PickleKid · 28/01/2020 11:17

Correction
60 pills
57 injections
75 pessaries

ChatWithMe · 28/01/2020 15:31

Hi PickleKid thanks for showing off your meds :-) I googled meriofert and see it's FSH and LH. I'm confused why I was given Fostimon which is just FSH. I'm actually gonna see about maybe doing Menopur instead of Fostimon if hospital pharmacy stocks it (had trouble when I neededlast minute Fostimon) and also it's a tiny bit cheaper. My clinic delivery company charges Sam's price for meriofert and Fostimon. Looks like you're taking an antagonist (fyremadel?), estrogen tablets and progesterone pessaries as well (same as me last time). Does that photo include the contraceptive pill? On my short protocol I took the pill for 2 weeks then had a break then started Fostimon, then later fyremadel, (and finally trigger HCG injection).

ChatWithMe · 28/01/2020 15:34

P.s. yes I think the middle box is estrogen tablets for later, and the tiny box on left is the contraceptive pill which happens first).

P.p.s. what's the name of your trigger shot? Mine was Ovitrelle but I'm gonna request pregnyl as I don't like using meds obtained from poor hamsters if I can :-/

SpyroC · 28/01/2020 17:58

Hi ladies, I hope you don't mind me joining. I just had my period and will start to down reg on 14/2 (happy valentines to me!) so I will be at a similar stage to a few of you. I have my nurses appointment next week. I am also low AMH and long protocol which I thought strange as lots of people seem to get given short protocol. I guess it depends on the clinic. This is my first IVF so it's helpful to hear others experiences.

Youngatheart00 · 28/01/2020 18:02

Can I join in? Will be starting a ‘freeze all’ cycle with my next cycle - reckon my first stim will be Valentine’s Day (how romantic 🙈). First private cycle after a failed NHS attempt last year.

Crumpets124 · 28/01/2020 18:04

Hi @ChatWithMe I would be careful about requesting different meds and getting a different one to what is in stock as they all have different compositions. I responded badly to Gonal f so now being put on Gonal f and menopur to try combat it - same with trigger there are different hormones in different ones so you would be better off getting exactly what your consultant prescribed. A girl on here had a terrible response to ovitrelle but a good response to a different trigger for example.

PineappleC · 28/01/2020 18:59

@Luby89k and @carbsandcheese Ah great that were all going through it together 😊 Although I think my program might be a bit different to yours - I've been put on the pill until 30th jan, then nasal spray. Then injections from 10 Feb for EC on 21st Feb. There seems to be so many variations of this and mine seems to be pretty different from the rest, so hope it isn't a mistake! 🤞

luby89k · 28/01/2020 21:09

@PineappleC I keep thinking mine is a mistake when i read other people's cycles. We got this! No mistakes here. (i hope)

@SpyroC yeh so we are super similar with the low AMH and long protocol. Think You will be a couple of days ahead of me. But i'll find out more details when i have my period 😀 xxx

ChatWithMe · 28/01/2020 21:52

Darn just lost a message I was writing argh! Will keep it short.

Welcome SpyroC and Youngatheart00. Valentine's Day sounds like a busy day for some of you.

Thanks Crumpets124 - will keep that in mind!

PineappleC - what nasal spray is it?

PineappleC · 29/01/2020 10:17

@ChatWithMe it's called Supercur 🤷‍♀️

@luby89k yeah I know! It's strange how they're all different but so far my clinic have been fab so I'm going to trust them 😊

granddesigns · 29/01/2020 11:47

Hi ladies
Can I join you - we aren't sure yet if it's feb or March but it will be one or the other! We completed all our investigations last year, investigative laparoscopy in sept concluding in October with diagnosis of MFI and advised we would need IVF with ICSI. Spent ages waiting for NHS funding decision which they eventually declined as we haven't been ttc for 2 years until august even though consultant said it wasn't going to change between now and then due to DH speed count etc. Have decided based on numbers, outcomes and ages plus fact that we may need multiple cycles and potentially hope to have a sibling and I am currently 34 to get started sooner rather than later, knowing next cycle could be NHS funded. So we have had updated baseline scan and have nurses consultation this week to get started. AF due 3 Feb so have accepted it's unlikely to be feb start but would go with it if is possible. Was lurking on the Dec/Jan thread but they are all in or approaching tww now so thought I had better search for people walking the same road as us at the same time! Will catch up on this thread now and the stories and hope to update more soon!

ChatWithMe · 29/01/2020 14:20

Welcome granddesigns did they say if you're doing long or short protocol?

Crumpets124 · 29/01/2020 14:27

Hi all, I’d actually started a second Feb/March thread as I couldn’t find this one! I just linked to this one on it to re direct anyone over!

I’m starting my second round of IVF for MFI. First round was a disaster both for me and DH! I moved to a new clinic and now on short protocol. Waiting on my period to start around 18th Feb then will be straight into it ( from what I’ve learnt about short protocol!)

granddesigns · 29/01/2020 14:41

Thanks @ChatWithMe - short protocol mentioned in consultants letter back to GO with menopur so not sure if they can get that in place by mid next week! Will see how appointment goes I guess!

ChatWithMe · 29/01/2020 15:05

Ah ok. Hope meds available soon. Menopur is something I'm looking into at the moment too...

confused107 · 29/01/2020 16:19

We were told that there may have to be changes to our medication this time due to brexit 🤷‍♀️

We have our consents appointment tomorrow, so I guess this will be finalised/ confirmed then. I assume we will get our meds next week ready to start injecting on the 9th.

SpyroC · 29/01/2020 18:13

@luby89k I'm glad I'm not the only one! My AMH was 5. I think they might do short protocol if it's lower than 3. That's the impression I got anyway.

@confused107 I went to the open day for my clinic and they were really keen to re-assure everyone that they would be ok after brexit as they are big. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It seems there is some behind the scenes worry about drug shortages. Hopefully they are all stocked up to get through Feb and March!

At the moment I'm filling in many forms and watching many videos which are err...very informative...with everything that can go wrong. Just what I want to be doing in the evenings! Hopefully I'll forget most of it.
