IVF in Feb/March 2020?

waitingforarainbow · 19/12/2019 08:01

Hello! I'm just wondering whether there are others starting their IVF journey in Feb/March 2020.

I am dealing with secondary infertility (male factor) and we have been TTC#2 for 16 months. We conceived naturally by some miracle back in July, but sadly had an early miscarriage (my third in total). We're now waiting to start ICSI IVF in early February.

Would love to hear from others doing the same. x

Anyone else having to sign off to say they are happy to continue despite Coronavirus?

granddesigns · 16/03/2020 16:48

They didn't mention it at all except check I didn't have a cough cold or sore throat before taking me down for the procedure. I was expecting more!

luby89k · 16/03/2020 17:32

@Twins2girls are you nhs or paying? I feel like they are asking to sign because they won't compensate any money if the government made you cancel? Abit like a safety net? If you are NHS, i am too but haven't been asked.

@granddesigns that's great news. fingers crossed.

@confused107 keeping everything crossed that they progress overnight. You only need one. Hopefully you will have one to transfer. Sending lots of love

WarriorSmith · 16/03/2020 17:44

Just catching up.

I have PCOS @pinktruffle and had Short Protocol

I have a review consultation on Friday, so will defo be asking about Corona - but surely they don't have answers about it affecting a pregnancy if you catch it?

SpyroC · 16/03/2020 17:51

Well done @granddesigns that's great! How are you feeling? I've gotta mentally prepare myself for mine now. I'm so happy not to have to use menopur again! 🤞🏻for some more good news tomorrow. X

@Twins2girls nope nothing. I asked what would happen if I had a cold and they said it should be fine but the anaesthetist makes an assessment on the day. I think it's fever they are worried about even without corona about. I'm nhs but in a separate clinic. (I asked this in December and again the other day)

@CarbsAndCheese you are triggering tonight too aren't you? Exciting!

I had a good look for the penetration button this morning but I couldn't see one! Gutted 😂

granddesigns · 16/03/2020 17:54

Good luck @SpyroC and @CarbsAndCheese - couldn't see a penetration button either. Got called through too early as lady before me had lots of eggs so embryologist wasn't ready! Had to chat to the team for ages so was looking closely at the scan machine!

Crossing everything for the team in the lab and the work they are doing and that call tomorrow!

Pinktruffle · 16/03/2020 18:01

Good luck @spyroc and @CarbsAndCheese. Hope it all goes well for you, I'll keep my fingercrossed for you.

As for Covid-19, I'm at Birmingham Women's hospital and there were signs everywhere saying that if you have Coronavirus and you are pregnant, you are at no extra risk and need to leave the hospital and go straight home. From my research, as far as I'm aware, it causes no extra risk to pregnancy or pregnant women. I think the issues hospital's are having is more to do with staffing capacity.

I wonder if things will change if we get to the mandatory isolation stage

SpyroC · 16/03/2020 18:29

Thanks @granddesigns and @Pinktruffle

I'm slightly unsettled by Borris putting pregnant women in the same boat as over 70s and those with underlying health conditions. I'm still nervous of being cancelled or them not putting embryos back. It will be so upsetting if that happens. Especially when people are talking about there being a baby boom in 9 months due to all the staying in.

granddesigns · 16/03/2020 18:35

Yes @SpyroC - I thought the same! I was going to work from home tomorrow after EC today - guess I'm not going back at time soon as they have gone onto working from home where possible and our work is set up for that if needs be.

Pinktruffle · 16/03/2020 20:05

I work in a school and have no bloody idea what to do! If I'm pregnant I'm guessing I have to isolate? I also have asthma. I dont need this worry on top of everything else

SpyroC · 16/03/2020 20:39

Me too @Pinktruffle obviously Borris and his cronies don't consider schools to be mass gatherings 🙄. Clearly not been to our canteen. The unions say if pregnant you need to be "risk assessed" but that advice will probably change following on from tonight's announcement.

Rumtopf · 16/03/2020 22:36

Good luck tomorrow @SpyroC and @CarbsandCheese

I have no idea what to make of all of this. My parents are self isolating to a point, I'm doing their shopping for them, their surgery is delivering prescriptions but they're adamant they're still going to go out for a drive and a picnic in their campervan. Which because the see very few other people should be ok. I'm just dithering whether to keep dd home from college as her best friend is having to self isolate as her Mum is very poorly with C19 symptoms. They spend all their time together too. I wish the Gov would just close everything non essential down and be clear and done with it.

CarbsAndCheese · 16/03/2020 23:27

@Rumtopf @SpyroC @granddesigns @Pinktruffle thanks for asking and all the good luck! I need it! I feel like it has all gone so wrong and I don't really know why! I've gone from being told I have loads of follicles and being monitored for OHSS to being told I only have 6 now. Feeling super miserable when they set my expectations so high and then crushed them at every scan. It doesn't help that the clinic kept me waiting until 7.30pm to tell me the plan for trigger and collection. I was sure they had either forgotten me or cancelled it because of coronavirus! Anyway, I've done the trigger now and all set for collection on Wednesday!

Fab news on 7 eggs @granddesigns! How was the egg collection? Were you sedated or under GA? I'm having mine under sedation so any wise words would be much appreciated!

@confused107 I hope you're ok and that tomorrow brings better news. Let's hope they have a growth spurt overnight!

Also, for all of you who are sad about the missing penetration button, its a pre-set that allows you to see deeper into tissues. The new machines have it as a touch screen setting, just not in such an epic huge fluorescent button format. Don't worry, it's still there, lurking away 😂

Celerysam · 17/03/2020 04:32

Just hopping over to join you all. I had a day 5 embryo transfer yesterday with a hatching blastocyst (round 3).

I've woken up in the middle of the night with a sore throat and I'm so gripped by fear of covid-19 as I'm sure an embryo wouldn't implant if you were sick.

Twins2girls · 17/03/2020 06:45

@luby89k I’m NHS 2nd cycle but first frozen go. I think we just have to sign to basically say we understand that although there has been no evidence to suggest any harm they don’t know for sure.

It’s my transfer day today, will be glad to get them in there where they belong, hoping they stick 🙏

@Celerysam I won’t be far behind you, we can help each other through the 2ww. Make sure you drink plenty of water, hopefully the sore throat won’t come to anything x

Rumtopf · 17/03/2020 07:45

@Twins2girls good luck with your ET today, hope all goes well.

@CelerySam it is a bit worrying isn't it, but hopefully it's just a sore throat or a pollen allergy, my go-to drink is lemon and ginger tea with a little honey, it's very soothing. If your transfer was yesterday, what day will you be testing?

I'm off to work at our local secondary school in a bit and shall be dettol spraying my work area, just a shame I can't spray down the student I'll be working with!

granddesigns · 17/03/2020 07:47

Morning @CarbsAndCheese - good luck for tomorrow. I was under sedation and it was ok. They came to see me before and told me I could ask for a top up any time. I think I did once and don't remember much after that. Just tried to stay calm and did some visualising (if you believe in that type of thing!) immediately before and controlling breathing. Got to know the team nicely before too in my long chat (turns out they brought me through to the room about 20 mins early so that ramped up the nerves but they were very good!). Recovery wise, they got me to take 2 paracetamol about an hour before they took me down which helped with pain on waking. I was discharged about 3 hours after they took me to the procedure room and live locally so was home about 20 mins after the first load of paracetamol wore off. Took 2 more and slept for about 3 hours. Had a gentle evening and then the pessary fun before bed- not fun! Now waiting for the call and glad I already said I would work from home today! Not sure about tomorrow. What's anyone else doing? I could work at home and work have made plans to do so but I'd rather start when everyone else does as a colleague is already self isolating. Also if they all come back and I'm off for 12 weeks it rather blows my cover if things go well.... it's all so unknown isn't it?!

Twins2girls · 17/03/2020 08:17

@Rumtopf thank you, waiting for the call to let me know when to go in, I’m having two put back, hoping they thaw ok.

I have today and tomorrow off work the WFH rest of week.

Any tips or advice what to do after transfer is welcomed!

KazzyFroggy · 17/03/2020 08:42

Hi everyone,

I have an appointment today for transfer , had my egg collection last Thursday.

@CarbsAndCheese @granddesigns Egg collection was not painful at all, no top up for me I was completely out straight away. Felt dizzy on waking up but after they had given me biscuits and tea I started recovering quite quickly. I was discharged an hour after waking up. They collected 16 eggs and on the next day called me to say 10 had fertilised.
I personanlly told my work about it, only my bosses, don't really want everyone asking me every second if it worked... but they have been extremely supportive, most time I felt stressed about missing so much work but they were always reassuring me that I did not need to worry!

So now I assume that if they have not called me they must have at least 1 to transfer back but ideally I'm hoping for 3 to have 2 other tries if this one does not work!

And then the wait... that's gonna feel sooooo long!

Celerysam · 17/03/2020 09:54

I'm testing Wednesday 25th. However, my last two rounds I knew it had failed about 5/6 days posttrabsfer as I developed period pains.

Good luck to those awaiting transfers. We turned up at the clinic not knowing if we had any that had made it blastocyst so it was a stressful day.

I'm dreading getting to day 5 post transfer as that's where it's always failed before

granddesigns · 17/03/2020 10:44

Good luck today @KazzyFroggy

I've had my call and 5 of the 7 fertilised normally. They are looking to transfer on sat. Please someone give me some positive stats about how many may make it to Saturday! Feeling a bit nervous as the numbers are smaller than they indicated so Hoping they get on growing well!

PickleKid · 17/03/2020 11:05

Hi all, you've all been busy triggering and egg collecting! Congrats to everyone for persevering and being awesome.

I'm avoiding East London and hiding out in Southampton these days.

I was due for the blood test to confirm pregnancy tomorrow am. It's obviously a long way to go but I figured might as well make another pass grabbing stuff in the flat anyway.

1st call today was yes still come in. Maybe be there at 8 when it opens to avoid crowds

2nd call don't come in, just take an OTC test at home.

Me: what about getting more cyclogist
Them: send someone else in

Me: what about the 5 week scan
Them: not sure it will go ahead will keep you posted

So yeah.

Rumtopf · 17/03/2020 12:25

@Kazzyfroggy hope no news is good news!

Fingers crossed for you @CelerySam will they up your progesterone to try and help?

@granddesigns I don't have any stats but 5 is great! I hope they all carry on marvelously until Saturday's transfer.

@PickleKid that's all very confusing, is it a private clinic or clinic within an NHS hospital? I'd want to go in and have the blood test, pick up extra cyclogest, swing by your flat and then hibernate until your scan is due. Have you gloves and a mask? I just felt a right wally in Bookers but lots of others were doing the same.

I have such tummy ache and I'm only half way through stimming and my moods! I'm swinging between horny and grumpy and a bit cross - such an enticing combination.

Pinktruffle · 17/03/2020 13:04

@Celerysam I've had one pregnancy that I sadly miscarried but I didn't do a test for ages because I kept having period pains and I thought my period was on it way - turns out I was pregnant. The pains can be misleading.

PickleKid · 17/03/2020 13:08

@Rumtopf it's an NHS clinic but it's at Homerton Hospital which is why they don't want me to come in and will accept my over the counter results and just give my partner the pessaries on my behalf.

Totally looking forward to not having to come into London again for a while and avoiding all the people.
