Hi, has anyone had fertility treatment here? What was their experience and success rates? Asking on behalf of a friend who is currently having treatment there for underlining gynaecology issues (fibroids/endometriosis) and she’s been referred here. She’ll be going down the route of donor sperm and possibly donor egg too because of her age (44).

Any feedback from people who have had treatment there would be great.

Thanks in advance.

@juliettefreire The baseline scan is done on CD 1 or 2 so time wise you would be fine. I would speak to Croydoj but I can’t see why you wouldn’t be able to go ahead all being well.

Thanks so much for the reply again. Really hoping we can do it this year. I'm due to go to the first pre cycle scan next week so I will ask them then.

Hello ladies! I have a follow-up with Dr Shuba after my first failed transfer and was wondering if you might have any suggestions for questions to ask. I've got my list and done some research, but... want more.

Also, for those of you who went through disappointments and lost hope on the fertility journey, do you have any advice on how to get back and feel positive?

PS. @Mariya99 I hope all went well with your transfer and endo scratch, I've read a bit about it after your post. Maybe you can tell us more about it. 😊

My first one didn’t work with a better quality embryo. I’m 37 weeks pregnant with my 2nd frozen transfer. I was down to start with but then realised it is really a game of chance. I spent money on acupuncture etc the first time and didn’t the 2nd and it was successful. Hope you get your questions answered, I didn’t really have many but one thing I did change was injecting progesterone earlier and continuing it until 16 weeks. Good luck

Hi @Caro4 , I lost hope at one point during the process and totally took myself out of it for a couple days. I went out with my friends, did yoga as normal and didn’t talk about it once. This was during stims when my follicles weren’t growing. On the second day, I went for an acupuncture session & drank some TCM herbal tea. At my next scan, my follicles had grown massively and we were on track again.

I agree that it’s down to chance and I prepared my mind mentally for it. I don’t know if the acupuncture and tea helped but I found that just relaxing and taking my mind away helped me to stay positive. I found keeping a journal was helpful as well.
The journey has its ups and downs and you need to do what works for you to get through it. Wishing you all the best of luck xx

Hello all, hope everyone is well.
Ive started my injections and its CD6 and the doctor didn't see any chance on my follicles. I'm a bit disheartened because I was assuming it would all be fine.... Im now panicking Im doing something wrong with the injections somehow.

Anyone had a similar experience at all?

Redcobra · 08/12/2023 22:46

@juliettefreire Sorry for the late reply but I had the same experience. I also felt disheartened and went straight to an acupuncturist afterwards. I also got a Chinese herbal tea make up for me and started drinking it straight away. A couple of days later the next scan showed follicle growth.
I really hope it’s all worked out for you xx

Hi all, thank you for the kind reply.
they increased our dosage and Ive had my egg collection now and we have quite a lot. We might be at risk of OHSS which is a shock and really disheartening.... Did anyone experience being prescribed a tablet to see if it would improve, it did and they still did fresh transfer?

I need to trust my body and be patient but it is hard.

Sar1990 · 09/12/2023 16:38

I had the tablet and then had to freeze all of my eggs. I was so upset as I just wanted to get on with it but in hindsight it was the best decision. I’m now sitting here with my 4 week old baby. You have to trust the process and I know being so swollen and uncomfortable would not have been the best start to a transfer and remember those embryos are so precious. Good luck with everything

Hi @Sar1990 thank you for sharing your experience. Really appreciate it. Lovely to hear you are holding your baby.
I need to trust that whatever happens is the best course of action to get us the family we want. Thank you again.

@juliettefreire on the plus side I think you only get one fresh transfer on the NHS but you get 2 frozen transfers

Report
juliettefreire · 09/12/2023 22:15

@Tillybabs yes i did presume that if they do 1 fresh and 1 frozen and someone cant do a fresh they would do two frozen... I think thats quite fair.
Just have to hope for the best really

Hi everyone

For those who had surgery with Dr G, how did you find him? I have an option of having open surgery with him (myomectomy) and I'm nervous about it. The interactions I've had with him so far have been really positive but it would be good to hear from anyone who has undergone any procedures with him. Thanks

@Tillybabs hey, Dr G did my laparoscopy and hysteroscopy couple of years ago. Felt super comfortable with him, the procedures went well, no complaints!

Hi @Tillybabs , I had both Dr Ganjewar and Dr Collaris do my endometriosis laparoscopy surgery and considering the advanced stage of my condition, they did a brilliant job. Granted this was keyhole and not open surgery, so your recovery time might be longer. I will eventually need another surgery and I’m definitely going with them. I was nervous too and asked a million questions leading up to it. They listened carefully and answered every single one which put me at ease.
Most importantly, they improved fertility & I conceived 11ths later on my first round of IVF.
I can’t praise that surgical team enough. I hope all goes well for you.

Hi everyone. I'm new to this thread but wanted to ask how you know whether you are eligible for IVF on NHS or not? My partner and I spoke to our GP about fertility treatments last year and he requested blood tests, which have all been done.

He said he will also contact Croydon Fertility centre (our local NHS clinic) and we received a letter from them last year with an appointment in February with Mr L Ganjewar. Letter doesn't give any information about what to expect etc. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. We are hoping to get IVF.

Hi @solanks
The main criteria is to have lived in Croydon borough (not sure what the specific amount of time is sorry), not smoke, healthy BMI and others.
You can find more info here: https://www.southwestlondon.icb.nhs.uk/find-nhs-services/infertility-and-assisted-conception/

In the first appointment I believe you will discuss your case. How long you have been trying for, your health and your partners health, any results of tests previously done and then I believe they will request further testing.

Good luck for the start of the journey

@solanks

Hi all info is in the link above. They will know what your AMH level is from a blood test which is probably what they took your bloods for.

Hi Ladies, I’m new to this thread. I started my journey with Croydon in Feb this year. Due to my age Dr Shuba had me booked into a scan very quickly so she could check my follicle count and Fibroids that i knew I had from a previous scan. Count seemed ok and they took my AMH levels ( I’ve not had these results yet). She also sent me for a HSG to have a better look at my fibroids and to check my fallopian tubes. I had it last week and It wasn’t a good result. Both tubes appear to be blocked and the fibroids have slightly changed the shape of my uterus. I think the radiologist was more concerned about the tubes and made it clear I could not get naturally pregnant without treatment. I have read a lot of your stories now - all have been very helpful in keeping me going on this journey. I have some questions. How long did most of you have to wait for the follow up with Dr Shuba after a HSG? Was it at that stage that you were able to get all your results including AMH level and a clear idea if she could help you? Also did any of you decide to go private for IVF due to the waiting time and if so were you able to get a copy of your results. I’m feeling like I couldn’t physically go through another HSG again if I went with another clinic. I found it painful and then was given the bad news. Sorry if this post is a bit long.

@TM79 hey welcome and sorry to hear your HSG didn’t go so well. Timings wise I found things to move fairly quickly in terms of follow up appointments. The only thing that took longer for me was waiting for a hysterocopy and MRI. I was 39 when I started and decided to stick with them. I am having some surgery as a last resort later this year. I could have had it sooner but asked them to put it off until later this year but I know waiting times for procedures are shorter now than when I started my journey.

Thanks so much for your reply @Tillybabs. I’m really hoping it is. I think once we have the follow up I can decide what to do. Thanks again. I hope your operation goes well at the end of the year too.

Hi I hope everyone is doing ok. @Tillybabs or anyone else that has worked with Dr G. Can I asked who that is and how I make contact with him? It sounds like he is a really good Dr and think I am going to need surgery so wanted to see if he is someone I could contact or is that who Dr Shuba would recommend anyway. I have an appointment with her coming up soon to discuss IVF and Surgery so wanted to do some of my own research before the appointment. Thanks
